Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday he'll present a freestanding bill next week to allocate money to relieve the humanitarian crisis at the nation's border after Senate Democrats insisted on stripping the measure from the recently passed supplemental disaster bill.

"He said once the bill is brought up as a freestanding measure, it will be seen whether Democrats are truly interested in dealing with the humanitarian crisis at the border.

"What is the objection?" said McConnell. "This is not about the wall, but about the humanitarian crisis. I think it is safe to say the president is getting more cooperation out of Mexico than he is out of congressional Democrats."

McConnell blamed Democrats' reluctance on "Trump derangement syndrome.""

"The bill includes $3.3 billion to care for unaccompanied minors, improve shelters, and process new arrivals. Another $1.1 billion would go toward increasing the number of detention beds and funding more investigative work, both of which goals have sparked controversy among Democrats."

What's the objection? Either the dems want to mitigate the crisis or inflame it.

Not at all.

Releasing the prisoners would be a great way to ease overcrowding, lower costs, and improve morale.

Well that is what St Raygun wanted.

jimheath.tv

Should "illegal aliens," the crowd member asked, be allowed to attend U.S. public schools?

Reagan responded:

"Rather than talking about putting up a fence, why don't we work out some recognition of our mutual problems, make it possible for them to come here legally with a work permit, and then, while they're working and earning here, they pay taxes here. And when they want to go back they can go back, and cross. And open the border both ways, by understanding their problems. This is the only safety valve they have right now, with that unemployment, that probably keeps the lid from blowing off ... And I think we could have a fine relationship."

The border, he said, should be open "both ways" -- and border security policy should take into account the economic challenges facing Mexico.

#22 | Posted by Nixon at 2019-06-18 08:49 AM | Reply

St Raygun wanted the Mexicans to come here en masse to destroy the unions that protected the middle class workers. Now that they have outlived their usefullness to the GOP, they can go back to Mexico.

Maybe it is time to stop "practicing" and actually control the Borders. Maybe it is time to stop inflaming the situation and do things that would ease the problems instead of aggravating them.

Maybe it is time for Humpy to stop playing games.

After all he is the one who is actually causing the problems now.

It's all he has. It's his only issue that riles up the 'base.' That's why among other things he eliminated the $450,000,000 in funding for Central American countries that greatly reduced violence and poverty, leading to the mass refugee migration fleeing there and coming to our borders.

BTW, notice we didn't have a problem of this magnitude until Trump came along?

He doesn't want the problem solved. It's the dog whistle he calls his base bitches with.

So without birthright citizenship do we require everyone to pass a citizenship test?

If they fail where do we deport them to?

I have no doubt plenty of Americans would be gone if we did that. What with the basic intelligence and general studiousness required to pass a citizenship test that might very well be an awesome way to "make America great again" or at least make America less stupid again.

For exactly the same reason that gun sales increased so dramatically during the last administration, optics. People believe that their opportunity to do something is about to come to a close (buy a weapon or successfully cross the border) due to the policies being called for by the government. People who were on the fence about making that trip or that purchase or maybe putting it off until the future are faced with the distinct possibility in which that future may not be available an longer. In the face of that uncertainty, many more will go ahead and take the plunge. They'll make the trip to the border or the gun store.
I hope that you've been enlightened.
Oh, and you put more money towards the problem to actually get those laws and enforcements in place. Turn the fear of a limited opportunity into a reality. Or do you believe that gun sales/unlawful immigration would continue at the same rate if laws were in place with the appropriate resources to see those laws enforced?

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved the bill in a 30-1 vote, sending it to the Senate floor for a vote next week.

Trump turned down a bipartisan $25b appropriation for his wall):

How Trump Let His Goal of Building a Border Wall Slip Away

- President had several chances to secure money for project
- Administration demands to cut legal immigration scuttled deals

President Donald Trump has rebuffed numerous opportunities to secure billions for a border wall, and with Democrats set to take control of the House that goal could be out of reach for good.

Trump's best chance for border wall funding at the level he wants came in February 2018, when Republican Senator Mike Rounds teamed up with independent Senator Angus King on compromise immigration legislation.

It included $25 billion over a decade to build a wall along the southern border and a path to citizenship for so-called Dreamers who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. It also barred green card holders from sponsoring adult children for permanent residency and reoriented enforcement priorities to focus on criminals in the country illegally.
