Even Pres Trump realized just how bad his original statement was, and decided that he needed to retreat from it.

I mean, when Ms Ingraham starts giving Pres Trump and his aides grief, it has to be bad.

Even so, I do say that I did enjoy all the arm waving by those here who were trying to justify what Pres Trump had said as being quite OK. I just hope they didn't get any rotator cuff injuries from it.

Evolving takes more than 2 days. This was just plain flip flopping.

... This was just plain flip flopping. ...

It was more than flip-flopping.

On a line from "flip-flopping" to "full retreat," I'd place it closer to "full retreat" than "flip-flopping." I am just not sure how much closer at this point.

Pres Trump's bobbling attempts to justify and explain what he said means that someone finally got to him and explained just how bad it was, probably using small words and lots of pictures. That's probably the only way the stable genius would be able to comprehend just how bad it was what he said.

Oh please

"Of course you give it to the FBI" if warranted, Trump said Friday during an interview with Fox News. But he reiterated that he'd review the information first and make an assessment. "If you don't hear what it is, you don't know what it is," he said.

His statements on the topic have been on point. This is nothing more than trying to parse to no end a perfectly reasonable response.

Yeah, that was part of his bobbling attempt I was referring to. Thanks for highlighting that.

He is trying to reframe what he said, so that it does not appear to be as bad as his original comments.

But it is good that, at least, he now says he is willing to get the FBI involved. Of course, what he'll say tomorrow or next week or month on that topic is unknown.

... This is nothing more than trying to parse to no end ...

That is what his supporters were doing yesterday, what I referred to as arm waving. Interesting that Pres Trump's attempts at reframing his comments negates a lot of the excuses that they proferred.

‘Let me make something 100% clear': FEC chair lays down the law on foreign help
www.politico.com

...The head of the Federal Election Commission released a statement on Thursday evening reiterating, emphatically, that foreign assistance is illegal in U.S. elections.

"Let me make something 100% clear to the American public and anyone running for public office: It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election," wrote Ellen Weintraub, chairwoman of the FEC. "This is not a novel concept."

She also sent the statement via Twitter with the introductory line: "I would not have thought that I needed to say this."...

It is good that Pres Trump is retreating from his original stance.

Will he walk back the part of the interview where he said the head of the FBI was wrong to state that such contacts needed to be reported? Andrea, you seem to have a line on what Trump REALLY means since his best words don't always get his meaning across - care to make sense of that part of the statement?

Evolving takes time.

This is called 'extracting both feet from one's mouth'.

Lamp, I believe you are Hugely mistaken.

Trump hasn't realized anything. His handlers did.

He spoke the truth when he said he'd be willing to accept foreign dirt, and he still will.

His backtracking is only lip service. Damage control.

Good point. Thanks for that.

I agree about the damage control aspect.

Yes, we've discussed ad nauseum that contributions of information would be illegal and purchases of such information would not be illegal. Trump didn't claim that he'd accept a donation or contribution of information.
Here's the title of the FEC's statement: Statement regarding illegal contributions from Foreign Governments
Not a contribution = not illegal.

Riiiiiight.

Remember when Donnie Junior made that explicit point to the Russians before the meeting?

No one else does either.

You say reasonable, the law says criminal. The act of accepting the information is still illegal.

"This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr Trump – helped along by Aras and Emin.

What do you think is the best way to handle this information and would you be able to speak to Emin about it directly?

I can also send this info to your father via Rhona [presumably Rhona Graff, Trump's longtime executive assistant], but it is ultra sensitive so wanted to send to you first."

"Seems we have some time and if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."

In writing. #ITMFA

I'm glad the GOP leadership in Washington protested Der Dotard's words, in voices as loud as mouse farts. Even Trump's ----- Miss Lindsey made a statement, stamping her foot and sniffing back tears, afraid that her denunciation might cause Trump to put forth a primary challenge when Lindsey stands for re-election...

I assume it's really him telling the truth, for once. He accepted information from the russians in 2016 and not he is reiterating his demands for 2020.
