The St. Louis Blues defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 to claim the first Stanley Cup in the 52-year existence of the franchise. No team in NHL history has taken longer to win one. After the Blues scored two first-period goals, including a back-breaker with seven seconds left to intermission, the outcome was never in much doubt.

I was living in St. Louis 49 years ago. We lived and died by the Blues, which meant we celebrated round after round, until we got to the finals, where we always got our asses kicked. We lost to the Montréal Canadiens 4 to 0, we lost them again the following year 4 - 0, and then we lost lost to the Boston Bruins 4-0. We hadn't even won a game in the Stanley Cup finals until this year.

It's been a long time coming. Congrats to The Blues, and the city of St. Louis, for never giving up.

"In January, St. Louis owned the worst record in the league."

At the beginning of the season they were one of my favorites to win the cup but they were in inexplicably HORRENDOUS for a while. They gelled and I honestly figured it would be St Louis vs Boston at the beginning of the playoffs. I honestly was rooting for the Blues. But after the first couple rounds of the playoffs - who knew what would happen?

I'm glad they won. They are a really good team in a league that has incredible parity these days. It only takes a couple injuries to put teams in a tail spin anymore it seems.
