Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, June 11, 2019

ps arrested the city firefighter who days ago tried to mow down a cyclist with his car, despite initially letting the recidivist reckless driver leave the West Side Highway scene without initial charges. Police say 27-year-old Brauley De La Rosa was driving with a suspended license on Thursday when he started shoving a biker with the grill of his Dodge muscle car near 24th Street -- a disturbing incident that was caught on video and published by Liz Gonzales of Barstool Sports. What was not caught on video was what started the exchange. Gonzales has said De La Rosa ran a red light and almost hit her and her dog before taking on the cyclist, who refused to back down, and remained on the scene because De La Rosa initially took his cellphone.

I saw this on the evening news (NYC TV stations are local for me) a couple three days ago.

The incident is nothing new to bicyclists.

Maniac Driver Let Go By Cops After Trying to Kill Cyclist is Nothing New

...When biker Chauncy Young saw the news about another driver caught on video trying to kill a cyclist, his first thought was "been there, done that" -- except that when when he was harassed and assaulted, and his would-be assailant let go by the cops, there was no video of it.

"This happens, it really happens -- road rage is normal in the city unfortunately," said Young.

Young said a reckless driver purposely hit him, messing up his bike, after he confronted the driver for going through a red light and nearly hitting him -- a incident similar to the terrifying incident caught on camera along the West Side Highway this week. Young showed up at the precinct to try to get some help, but police similarly did nothing, he said....

I've never ridden my bicycle in NYC, but I have driven there. It is an interesting experience. At time, normal traffic laws seem not to apply. Too many times.

I see a lot of people on bikes going the wrong way down the street, I see them not stop at lights or stop signs, I see them driving down the sidewalk.

What I don't see is cops allowing their friends to attempt to murder people with their cars and then drive away like it never even happened.

Require cyclists to carry guns.

This happened to me last week when I confronted someone who was parked in the bike lane behind the dividers. I refused to move out of his way and so he hit me with his car.

I ride in the area this happened at least once a week. It's a nice bike path going all the way up the west side of Manhattan though getting there is a little sketchy for me when I'm taking my daughter along. On r/nycbike we were talking about this since the day it happened. Credit goes to local news (that is dying in most of the country) for following up on the story. Otherwise there would have been no chance this dick would have turned himself in.
