A raft of legislation intended to better secure United States election systems after what the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, called a "sweeping and systematic" Russian attack in 2016 is running into a one-man roadblock in the form of the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Lets hear it repubs - how does weak election security help america?

Your party is so bad at helping americans that the only way it can win is if elections are hackable.

The confederates took over the republican party. This is what republicanism is now- Protecting a con man and making sure our elections can be hacked.

McConnell is a traitorous bastard. Who also paves the way for his wife's family business interests

You guys are whipping yourselves into another frenzy.

"The U.S. is characterized by a highly decentralized election administration system. The entities that do the rubber-meets-the-road functions of running an election are typically on the county or city/town level. The state is responsible for certain aspects of elections as well, and the federal government has a role, too. The result is that no state administers elections in exactly the same way as another state, and there is quite a bit of variation in election administration even within states. "

Until a national election system is in place, you're basically wasting your breath.

The wide variety of systems nationwide is like herding cats. The answer lies in a private, leased-line network. Unless you want to install fiber just for this. But that's a lot of digging and cable-pulling. The networks already exist.

The military and gov't already use them.

#6 Absolutely none of that is an argument against the election security bills pending in Congress.

You're either a troll or an idiot. Perhaps both.

Is it our governments duty to defend the United States or not? Does that include the defense of our election systems? If your answer to either of these questions is yes, you must conclude that McConnell and Trump are derelict in their duties.

Whatever it takes: get the system secure.

You're apologizing for a despicable Rep that wants nothing but to own the libs.

He's ------- petty, which makes you just as petty, "Bernie-bro."

Hey Rubes,

H.R.1 has nothing to do with election security. It's about harvesting absentee ballots and bypassing voter ID.
Which has ZERO to do with elections security. I bet you haven't even read it. because you haven't. It's a Nancy Special.

If you want election security, you'll need $10-20 billion for starters, an open ended contract, renewable every 7-10 years.
Run by Raytheon, Google Fiber, Amazon, Microsoft Azure Cloud, and a host of contractors to install a nationwide fiber election network system.

The rest of your hysteria is gorilla dust and media hype. Because the current election system is a cobbled together mishmash of paper, PC's, and voting machines that are set up and torn down in elementary schools every election and can't be universally patched, secured, standardized, and are under local control.

The slot machines in Vegas are networked and secured better. When will you wake up?

-never-

You dodged the question. Name one policy you think mitch and trump are wrong about and the democrats are right.

Shouldnt be hard task for a progressive. Might be tough for a russian puppet though.

#14 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2019-06-11 06:20 PM | Reply

Exactly. Some of these "security" bills are about turning the government into a get-out-the-vote machine for Democrats.

Oh, no. much can be done. But don't think HR1 will do anything.

It's going to cost $10-20 Billion and take 7-10 years to build.

so...get started ... we should have started 10 years ago.

But, as we all know, that whole Russia thing with Comey and Russia... it was a HOAX anyway..so stick your head in the sand and do nothing.

That is a much better plan.

#24 | Posted by SheepleSchism at 2019-06-11 06:44 PM | Reply

- Why?

Because it was Obamas right to pick and should have been honored.

McConnells excuse was all BS, unfortunately the Dems were in minority.

Why hasn't the House proposed a bill to prevent it in the future? - They're too busy chasing Trump.

Instead of governing. making policy. showing the American people they can lead.

Either McConnell blatantly defied constitution law, or "shall" has zero meaning; making the second amendment completely meaningless.

Jesus, that's who. It's in red letters. You doofus. Go play word games with Snoofy.

Start a Garland thread, then ask yourself, "What are House dems doing about it?"

This is an election security thread, which isn't reflected in HR1. Refute it. you can't.
