Capitalism as we know it is over. So suggests a new report commissioned by a group of scientists appointed by the UN Secretary-General. The main reason? We're transitioning rapidly to a radically different global economy, due to our increasingly unsustainable exploitation of the planet's environmental resources.

This is an old article and normally would not be promoted to the front page but this article's author has caught my attention several times. Nafeez Ahmed, wrote a more recent article on June 3 that falls in the same end-of-times theme: New Report Suggests 'High Likelihood of Human Civilization Coming to an End' Starting in 2050. I remember the article Ahmed wrote in October 2018, Pentagon Wants to Predict Anti-Trump Protests Using Social Media Surveillance. It's a well researched article which linked to a paper paid for by the Army Research Laboratory which really stuck in my mind. It is called Social Network Structure as a Predictor of Social Behavior: The Case of Protest in the 2016 US Presidential Election. The military using our posts, tweets and comments to predict protests is really unsettling. Yet each time a crazy person posts something that the public believes should have caught law enforcement's attention online there is a call for authorities to pay more attention.

UN scientists. lol. You can get better predictions from blind-folded monkeys throwing feces at a chart.

Wow, shocking that the UN Secretary General, a life long active member in the Socialist International, a worldwide organization of socialist and social democratic political parties, would commission a study that concludes that Capitalism is going to die soon.

"We're transitioning rapidly to a radically different global economy"

Well, some of us are, at least.
Others appear dead set in their ways.

"blind-folded monkeys"

Wow. Not only can they not see, but they've been creased several times over!

Marx predicted the imminent demise of capitalism in 1848 and it's been an article of faith ever since. The reports of capitalism's death have been greatly exaggerated for over a century and a half.

#9 | Posted by nullifidian, you beat me to it. Fact is Marx didn't know capitalism, didn't practice Marxism, and was as providential and bourgeois as any upper class Victorian could be.

Fact is Marx didn't know capitalism,

Though he communicated with Darwin, and you can see Marx's work through an evolutionary lens.

Marx didn't understand evolution, and that is his downfall IMO, capitalism is evolutionary in features and description. Marxism has an "end", which is anti-evolutionary. Marxism, Socialism is fragile, Capitalism is anti-fragile (so long as monopolies are avoided). The smaller the organizations the better off we are.

Capitalism is Lindy....

The Left has been agitating for socialism for over a century and the American proletariat never bought it. So instead of claiming that socialism needs to replace capitalism for moral reasons--exploitation, injustice, etc., the new mantra is environmental apocalypse. Support socialism...or die!

Most of them won't say that the's real agenda behind environmental fearmongering. Occasionally though, one of them drops the mask.

There is no way to support 7 billion people at the level the West has enjoyed indefinitely, let alone 9 billion. We are poisoning other life forms and ourselves. The orange sloth doesn't care and must be stopped.

Capitalism in the modern world is now tantamount to greed. So long as human greed exists, capitalism in one form or another will continue to exist in every country in the world. Socialism in the modern world is now tantamount to societal stability. So long as government's throughout the world wish to remain popular and in power, socialism in one form or another will continue to exist in every country in the world.

"We only have to worry about 400 million."

We do?
Like if the other 7 billion get a deadly disease, it can't possibly spread to us?

My solution to homelessness is to provide housing.
That way, people aren't homeless anymore.

You can provide a homeless person a job, but they'll still be homeless.
Thus, you haven't addressed the problem.

See how that works... or rather, doesn't?

Is homelessness a sign of capitalism's imminent demise, or is it a sign of capitalism's continued track record of success?

What's prevented California from doing exactly that?

Has anything stopped LA Democrats from housing the homeless?

San Diego? San Francisco? What exactly is preventing Ca. dem's from providing housing for the homeless?

Illegals took their housing, is the Andrea, a mattress answer:
Feds granting nearly 2 million work permits to illegal immigrants in 2017

Naturally, they flood to California sanctuary cities...
So that's why there's homeless:
Because Trump is giving illegals work permits.

Anyone buying it?

"....reported by a group of UN picked scientists." Sez it all. More fake science, now mixed in with politics and economics. SCIENCE, is what's "over as we know it."

I guess you missed the report linked in the article above, led by a former fossil fuel executive and supported by the former chief of Australia's military. But they're all part of a vast conspiracy to deny the "real" science which is carefully hidden from the masses except by a diligent 1/2 minute Google search.
