Speaker Pelosi saying behind closed doors she doesn't want to impeach Trump, she wants to see him "in prison." The Root's Jason Johnson says it's "just as silly" as Trump's calls to "lock her up" and Pelosi is "speaking against her own base." The Daily Beast's Margaret Carlson cautions impeaching Trump could embolden his 2020 base.

I have to agree with Melber here:

"The next step would be, does Congress want to deal with it. If the speaker doesn't want to go that route, she has every right to explain that," Melber said. "But if she doesn't want to go that route and then she is making prison-esque, jail-esque references does she risk ... getting close to a 'lock her up' frame?"

Pelosi wants to milk these investigations for all that they are worth and seemingly has no intention on commencing impeachment proceedings, ever.

Pathetic.

The worse thing that Pelosi could do is to sink to Trump's level with petty insults, which is what he wants.

She's carrying out The Plan. which is to hurl claims and accusations,

have WaPo and NYT try it in the papers, and claim an e-Victory.

Corporate dems behave as expected.

I disagree with Pelosi, however, I don't think the president should go to jail. I think the president should be hanged from the neck till death, as is tradition for treason.

Not strategically. Strategically it's a brilliant move: she's going to refuse to hand ANY control over to the Republicans, after seeing the behavior of Barr, Trump, Nunes, Gowdy, Graham, Mulvaney, and the rest of the moron bunch.

As long as she keeps the investigations inside the House, the Republican Senate will have no chance to "exonerate" Trump.

Investigation fatigue is a thing, Dannie, and as Nadler, Waters and Schiff continue to flail away there is a very real possibility that the voters will punish them in 2020.

Even Nadler is starting to realize the no win that he is in, and as of yesterday was reportedly pleading with Pelosi to at the very least, launch an impeachment inquiry in the Judicial Committee. Pelosi doesn't want to do that because that would, by Rule, stop all the other investigations.

Time will tell, but impeachment is less likely by the day.

I'm with you.

He'll be voted out next year and the 12 different ongoing state and federal investigations into his nefarious dealings can deal with him when he isn't beyond the reach of the law.

While I support impeachment.. seeing how people like RoC are so desparate for it to happen is fun to watch..

As long as Trump doesn't win 2020 he will be answering for his obstructions.. the only downside to not impeaching is looking weak and turning off voters but you take chanches either way

Yeah.

It's crazy to think they would put the guy who ran a presidential campaign on wanting to put his opponent in prison for having the audacity to run against him for actual crimes he committed.

FakeLawyer doesn't want his Orange Hero impeached.
He is playing the same game of lies his Fuhrer is, and like his Fuhrer he is going to go bat --- crazy here when it finally happens.

Don't believe me, sit back and watch.

Of course Trump belongs. Any honest person recognizes it. Will it happen? Probably not. Between his numerous acts of obstructs and his long history of tax evasion via a variety of schemes, he obviously is a criminal. But being a White Supremacist, Trump gains the support of many right wingers on this site.

The only good news about this, as with the House mostly geared toward going after President Trump, is that they are accomplishing very little. Libbie dems not accomplishing much of their agenda is a good thing in my eyes.

Trump is sub-human. He deserves anything that happens to him.

Given Trump's treatment of women and children attempting to flee death and persecution in Central America, I think it is fair to label Trump a monster. A sub-human, even non-human monster. He is a plague on this country. And even a plague on this planet. He cannot be removed from the White House fast enough. Pelosi must initiate impeachment!

"Pelosi must initiate impeachment!"

And turn final judgement over to Uncool and The Gang?

No thanks. Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans are to justice what Devin Nunes, Trey Gowdy, Donald Trump, and William Barr are to justice.

Danforth: We are a nation of laws. If we wish to remove Trump, we must do so lawfully. Impeachment is the legal process for getting rid of monsters such as Trump. The fact that other monsters may be protecting him is no reason to abandon the legal process. Even a subhuman/nonhuman grotesque piece of vile filth such as Trump must be accorded legal process. If not, we begin the long descent down to his level. Impeach!

"We are a nation of laws. If we wish to remove Trump, we must do so lawfully."

Well, since there isn't even a snowball's chance in hell of that, what's Plan B?

Pelosi's is: keep the investigations in the House. As soon as you turn Final Judgement over to the Republicans, you get Bill Barr II; The Sequel.

"The fact that other monsters may be protecting him is no reason to abandon the legal process. "

You clearly don't understand how this video game is played.

In this one, if you feed the other monsters by giving THEM the Conch, they all grow exponentially invulnerable, and the Head Monster exponentially unbearable.

As long as she keeps the investigations inside the House, the Republican Senate will have no chance to "exonerate" Trump.

Lawrence Tribe, Harvard constitutional law professor, has suggested that, for purposes of censure, Trump could be impeached, tried, and convicted in the House. Of course conviction in the House doesn't carry with it removal from office but it would taint Trump with the blemish of impeachment, conviction and censure that would forever stain his presidency. And, depending on timing, it could encourage other republicans to challenge him for the republican nomination.

After the conviction is announced and had a chance to "mellow" in the public consciousness, the House could decide whether or not to make the impeachment referral to the Senate. If there is strong enough public support for conviction in the states with enough vulnerable republican senators to give dems a substantial majority in the senate, the House should refer the impeachment to the Senate and dare those vulnerable republican senators to defy the will of their constituents!

The dems are making the right moves at this time to test whether or not the courts will uphold their authorities to subpoena witnesses and to enforce those subpoenas (after all, there can be no trial without witnesses). If those authorities are upheld, an impeachment trial strategy should be developed, witnesses identified and the subpoena cannon should be fired!

Well then.

It certainly stained Bill Clinton, didn't it?
/snark

Ultimately, as soon as you give over power to the Republicans, you get Barr's Summary Redux.
