Mexican soldiers, armed police and migration officials blocked hundreds of migrants after they crossed the border from Guatemala in a caravan into southern Mexico on Wednesday, and detained dozens of them, a witness from a migrant aid group and an official said.

It's probably more the recent Appellate Court ruling that says that the US can let asylum applicants remain in Mexico while they wait for their hearings than the very misguided tariff threats, but this is a step in the right direction.

Tariffs work....winning again. Tired of winning yet Libs?

Economic trends have been positive with the last six years of Obama outperforming the last two years of Trump.

Other countries can ill afford to ignore the massive US economy or its leaders demands, least of all border countries. We see this as Canada continues to hold Huawai's owner's daughter at great risk to other Canadian citizens.

Trump's campaign agenda has some positive aspects to it but he lacks the staff or the know how to actually implement anything. The orange sloth is an ignorant fool, out of his league, totally dependent on bullying to achieve his alleged objectives. Bullying seems to achieve a goal in this case. Whether the benefits are long term remains to be seen. Capitalism is notorious for ups and downs and we have been in an eleven year upward trend.

Thanks Trump! Good plan. And it worked just like you said.

1. Trump's only been in office two years.

2. Where do you get these lies from?

The funny thing is Trump outperformed Obama in GDP growth rate DESPITE the Fed continually raising rates. Obama returned crap results despite being gifted zero interest rates for almost the entirety of his term.

This.

The problem is that we are talking about less than 1% being stopped by Mexico.

If you REALLY think it's the tariffs, you're not paying attention. Senate Republicans already said they aren't happening.

How in the world did they get through that gigantic wall that Mexico built on Mexico's southern border with Guatemala?

So you idiots that think the Mexican Army never intercepted immigrants before Trump?

Weird.

#18 | Posted by donnerboy, I remember when the Mexican government used to issue pamphlets telling illegals how to negotiate the law in the US. They issued IDs for Illegals within the US. They encouraged and transported illegals to the border. Why? The biggest source of money in Mexico is remittances form the USA. Governments generally don't contradict there own interest.

"The biggest source of money in Mexico is remittances form the USA."

So. Bigger than the $86 billion they got from trading with us or the $63 billion we got from trading with them?

President Trump has long defined his immigration policies as simply a matter of toughness. Indeed, making the border crossing tougher has been the overriding thrust of his deterrence effort. He has complained to border agents that he would love to see them get "a little rough" but that "when you do all of these things that we have to do, they end up arresting Border Patrol people." He even threatened a 25 percent tariff on Mexico for failing to prevent people from crossing the border.

Yet no hardship has deterred millions on this dangerous journey because of what waits on the other side of the border, which is jobs. To remove that attraction, the government would have to get tough not on migrants but on those who hire them. That is a tad too tough, it seems, for most immigration hawks. According to a recent study, the Justice Department prosecuted only 11 employers in the entire nation last year. That is right, with the Pew Research Center estimating that about 11 million undocumented persons are living and working in the United States, the Justice Department is prosecuting at a rate of one employer for every one million undocumented persons.

But you're sure it's more than 20 million.

I get it. Republicans have to control the narrative, least the truth gets out.
