Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, June 06, 2019

Just six weeks into his presidential campaign, Joe Biden is running as the Democrat to beat, charting a distinct path through the primary states, taking positions that may rile the party base and working with a single goal in mind: not being lumped in with the rest of the field.

While most Democrats are preparing to battle one another, Biden is focused on President Donald Trump.

Biden's moves suggest a candidate looking beyond the Democratic primary to the general election, laser-focused on issues that could shore him up with swing voters in key battleground states even if it spurs consternation from some Democrats now. At the moment, the strategy seems to be working as Biden enjoys a sizable lead in most early polls. But that could change with the first presidential debate of the season just weeks away.

Sorry, here is the link.

I don't know whether this really smart on Biden's part or will come back to hurt him once the debates start, it seems to be taking a page out of Hillary Clinton's campaign strategy and while it worked for a while, the Sanders campaign brought her back to the fold, so to speak.

His strategy works only so long as he can maintain his lead.

I think the difference this year is that Warren and Sanders will be too pre-occupied with each other to focus too much on Biden early. Mayor Pete, on the other hand, would be well served to focus solely on Biden as an alternative to Creepy Joe.

Once everything shakes out, Biden might be too far ahead for it to matter.

?? What?? It only works until it doesn't ??

Its a good strategy, he already has brand. Lying; low being counter-culture is a good move. Once the debates start he will then need to define self, and will be the focus because, of his orthogonal positions as competitors want to chip away at his lead, giving him more screen time.

I found it interesting Pete went after Pence early on, until I found out they were from the same state. Pete would be wise to focus on VP position, he has plenty of time. If that wasn't his intention, poking at Pence is a beta move.

This strategy worked so well for the last Dem. nominee.
