Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, May 31, 2019

David Corn: Mueller's remarks were also a reminder of the core elements of the Trump-Russia scandal: Moscow attacked the 2016 election to help Trump, and Trump assisted Vladimir Putin's assault by claiming at the time (and afterward) that it wasn't real. That is, whether or not Trump had criminally colluded with Russian operatives, he did side with a foreign adversary that attacked American democracy -- and that's treachery.

I wouldn't worry about what traitors say Gal, most of here know you're a loyal American unlike folks like Andrea. Partisanship used to stop at the waters edge, not today in the GOP. Today their partisanship extends to welcoming Russian interference into our elections, can't make that crap up. Wow, those folks were clever enough to get Putin to push Trump during the GOP primaries, then to hack a bunch of Democrats and continue to push Trump during the election while at the same time getting Trump to excuse and encourage Putin at every turn and preventing his team from reporting the over 140 contacts they had with the Russians to the FBI even after the FBI warned them that the Russians were interfering in the election and might try to reach out to them? Barr is a sold out fixer for the Repubican Party and has been for 30 years. He helped George H.W. Bush avoid jail time for violating the law when he commited crimes in the Iran-Contra scandal. He didn't show that Bush hadn't committed the crimes, no, he just arranged for pardons for all of the key witnesses who faced prison for their crimes.

In your biased interpretive expository.

Mueller said no such thing, nor did he intimate it, or animate any secret signals.

"The report speaks for itself"
"insufficient evidence"
"won't comment on hypotheticals"
"I'm retiring"

The rest is tea leaves and narratives.

#39 | Posted by SheepleSchism at 2019-05-31 10:29 AM | Reply

"Mueller said, "insufficient evidence""

He said that about conspiracy/coordination/collusion, but not about obstruction.

Mueller said that if he could say that the President had committed no crime then he would say it but he can't.

He said that only about obstruction.

Here's the thing: if people are serious about impeaching Trump, they need to focus on obstruction and walk away from the Russia conspiracy angle, because if they don't, Trump's defense will throw Mueller's Vol. I conclusions back in their face, as we have seen Sheeple do throughout this thread.

I know a lot of people are still stunned by Mueller's Vol. I conclusions but they have to get over it and focus on the evidence of actual criminality as referenced by Mueller: Obstruction of Justice.

Asha Rangappa @AshaRangappa_

An important point on COLLUSION that @jimsciutto and I discussed yesterday morning, which hasn't gotten enough attention: Mueller clearly states in the report (p. 10) that he was unable to get full info on Russian contacts in part because many witnesses were super obstruct

#42 | POSTED BY GAL_TUESDAY

There are degrees of obstruction, in what way has any of the 10 claims by Mueller affected the ability to investigate?

Even the one RoC claims is "obstruction" in no way IMO, "corruptly or by threats or force, or by any threatening letter or communication, influences, obstructs, or impedes, or endeavors to influence, obstruct, or impede, the due administration of justice."

Finally the order of evidence gathering is important, if the determination that there was no collusion occurred before this supposed "obstruction" then again ... go home, pack your bags we are done here ...

Trump cooperated with the interference. And is still allowing it.

Just because there is no smoking gun and not enough evidence to indict for conspiracy does not "exonerate" Unindicted Co-conspirator Individual 1.

Rangappa and Sciutto were so sure, prior to the release of Mueller's report that there was a conspiracy and that the entire Trump Campaign was going to be frog marched to jail that they can't walk away now, so I take what they have to say with a huge grain of salt.

The language stating "the Office cannot rule out the possibility that the unavailable information would shed additional
light on (or cast in a new light) the events described in the report" on page 10 is in every investigative report I have ever seen: it is impossible to get all information in light of various privileges or unavailability of witnesses.

Stick with obstruction if you want to get rid of Trump.

I don't know about Sciutto, but Rangappa never made that claim and, based on her experience as a CI agent who worked for Mueller at the FBI, went so far as to warn others of having too high of expectations:

Those who are hoping that Mueller's investigation will publicly expose the full scope of Russia's efforts will be sorely disappointed -- and neither congressional intelligence committee currently investigating the issue has the capacity to fill in his gaps ...

Even if Mueller uncovers enough criminal activity to warrant charges, any prosecution would only reveal a slice of the big picture. A criminal trial would produce public evidence only related to specific activities that crossed the line into criminal behavior and which Mueller believes could be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Having conducted counterintelligence investigations, I can attest that not everything a foreign intelligence service does is necessarily illegal. For example, populating public social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter with fake accounts and bots isn't necessarily a crime, and neither is assessing and approaching American targets for recruitment -- these details, however, are important to understanding the full scope of how Russia executed its covert operations in the U.S.

Asha has always made a distinction between the criminal and the CI investigations into Trump. I am unaware of her proclaiming Trump was guilty and that Mueller was going to be the one to take him down:

This is where Mueller's report comes in. Until now, the American public has seen only snippets of Mueller's investigation -- those he has chosen to make public through criminal charges. But since not all activities uncovered by a counterintelligence investigation, even those that pose a significant threat to national security, are necessarily criminal, the court filings do not reveal the full breadth of what Mueller may have discovered. Only by laying out all of his counterintelligence findings -- including what role, if any, Trump played in Russia's intelligence operation against the United States -- can the criminal charges be placed in context and the full scope of the threat be assessed.

If the counterintelligence case against the president was eventually closed because agents found that Trump did not pose a threat to U.S. national security, the president should welcome Mueller's report. This conclusion would stop the speculation about his relationship with Russia and reassure the American public that his loyalties remain with the United States. But if the case wasn't closed, and the threat to national security is ongoing, then informing Congress of the nature of the threat is paramount. Then Congress could determine whether it should take the ultimate step to neutralize the damage that the president could inflict on the nation -- through impeachment and removal from office.
