Senate Reaches $19 Billion Deal For Disaster Aid Without Border Wall Funding

The Senate approved a $19.1 billion disaster aid package Thursday that includes money for states impacted by flooding, recent hurricanes and tornadoes, as well as money for communities rebuilding after wildfires. The measure passed overwhelmingly -- 85-8.

Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, R-Ala., announced the deal hours before lawmakers were planning to head home for a weeklong Memorial Day recess.

The bipartisan agreement came after months of negotiations.

Lone Republican blocks disaster aid package on House floor

Communities still severely damaged by wildfires, flooding, hurricanes, lava flow and even typhoons have waited for this assistance as the president battled with Democrats about money to help Puerto Rico continue to rebuild following the Category 5 hurricanes that hit the U.S. territory in 2017.

This one is Eugene "Chip" Roy from Texas. One supposes his dad is named Lee.
