They'll tell you it was abortion. Sorry, the historical record's clear: It was segregation.

It wasn't about either, and if you believe otherwise, you've become a useful idiot. The actual truth is there in the article. It was about what it has always been about and always will be about: money and power. Every other topic is a means to an end to get money and power. Liberal and conservative, socialist and capitalist, men and women, black and white.....money and power.

Segregation is just a symptom of the disease.

There's a documentary that came out in 72 called Marjoe, about a guy who was a minister as a child and when he left the church he decided to lift the veil on the games churches play to fleece their parishioners. The movie was fairly interesting but the thing that sticks out in my memory was when he showed how ministers were selling their mailing lists to GOP operatives. It really felt in hindsight, having seen the film 30 years after it was released, that I was witnessing a secret, previously unrevealed, moment in history. Especially when Roe v Wade was decided a year later.

"#3 Again....money and power."

Pretend that was all it was all you want, I grew up in the Soutn during the era of civil rights and "Christian Academies" springing up all over the place. Racism was, is and will be the base of the Republican Party, they would never have won a single Presidential election without the Southern Strategy and white resentment over Civil Rights and integration. Reagan launched his campaign in 1980 from Philadelphia, Mississippi, a tiny town, famous for one thing and one thing only. That's where the three civil rights activists were murdered.

You're not digging deep enough, Danni. Why are racists and bigots the way they are? Because they view "others" as a threat. To what? Power. Money. Why did the South secede over slavery? Money. Why do socialist countries always wind up as dictatorships? Power. The examples are endless.

I understand you view Mustang, it has merit, I agree to a point but having grown up around these white people in the south.....that's not the whole story. They have a meanness to them that I never experienced in other parts of the country. They are truly hateful people. Most of them have no money, no power but they have plenty of hate."

"President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."

#7 You're right....some people are racist because their daddy was racist. Those people also make Forrest Gump look like a genius.

But if you look at the problems we have in Congress today...at all the social justice issues...at abortion...at the EC...gun control...the war on drugs...essentially every article from every front page of the NYT for the last 50 years...it's money and power.
