Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday held a marathon reading of the redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's 448-page assessment of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

So this is their alternative to impeachment...reading the report out loud for their constituents who are illiterate?

So dumb.

I actually listened for a few minutes and whoever the Rep was reading that segment said "undisputably" instead of "indisputably" at least twice.

"So this is an attempt to make sure that person who is curious, who doesn't have the full time to dive through all this, to be able to listen to it and to understand what this is really all about."

*ahem*

No Collusion.
No Obstruction.
I'm Sorry

"No Collusion"...because they were too stupid to know they were breaking the law.
"No Obstruction"...but no exoneration, and here are 10 instances why.
"I'm Sorry"...but you're stuck with him another 18 months, because (R) Senators are afraid of tweets.

Oh and this is really dumb.

It's stuff like this that shows you how incompetent and impotent the Dems are and why they'll lose in 2020.

JPW,

I agree this is dumb but it's not like it's dominating the news cycle.

A couple of months from now nobody will even remember this.

#8 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-05-18 12:14 AM | Reply

Which is why it's dumb. They only know how to do stuff that makes them feel like they've done something but doesn't accomplish dick.

It's like idiot protestors who stand around yelling shame at people who have none. Good for their own feels but a big bag o' nothin' for advancing or defending a goal.

It's dumb but I don't think it's bad politicking.

I don't think it's particularly good politicking either.

It's just a waste of time. My guess is it's a bit cathartic given Dems have taken impeachment completely off the table, at least for now.

It's a waste of time while the GOP controls the narrative while spreading a false representation of the report's findings.

So it's absolutely bad politicking.

The Dems sit around and whine about what reality shouldn't be while the GOP goes out and tells people what reality is even if it's easily found to be false by anybody with a brain.

JPW,

Dems have taken impeachment off the table. But at the same time they want to milk the Mueller report as much as they can. This is their way of trying to thread the needle - try to maximize hype over obstruction but not take any action.

I don't think it's working.

#12 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-05-18 12:36 AM | Reply

maximize hype over impeachment

Not sure how I messed that up so badly.

#13 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-05-18 12:37 AM | Reply

Actually, I had it right the first time.

Volume II lays out plenty of obstruction and Democrats are trying to maximize the negative impact of that in the report.

#12 | Posted by JeffJ

Of course not.

Anybody with a genuine curiosity has already looked into the report and knows what it says.

Anybody looking for rationalizations to not look into it has found what to think from right wing "news" sources.

Anybody who somehow doesn't fall into those two groups isn't watching anything to hear the Dems read the report on the House floor.

Like I said, impotent stupid nonsense. They don't know what they're doing nor will they ever admit as much.

I'm increasingly worried that the only thing that can save us from another four years of Trump is an American public who thus far hasn't shown enough interest or critical thinking to follow through on that.

I hope I'm wrong.

JPW,

Right now Biden is smoking Trump in early polling.

Granted, the period of time between now and election day is a political eternity and polling can change.

What I'm most encouraged by is that the loud, SJW identity politics, portion of the Dem tent may seem outsized, but appears to actually be a minority of Dem or potential Dem voters.

Biden is deeply flawed but his worst characteristics are also exhibited by Trump and with Trump it's more extreme.

Trump has a low ceiling in terms of the number of votes he can net. He will need a near-perfect storm to beat someone like Biden IMO.

As long as Democrat voters are sane during the primary, Trump is very vulnerable.

Yeah I'm not (as I never have) taking polling too seriously at this point.

One of the major things to happen between now and then is the Dems eating themselves to out purity test each other. They'll tear each other down and in the end present a fractured front against Trump.

Biden is deeply flawed but his worst characteristics are also exhibited by Trump and with Trump it's more extreme.

Means little to his base. In fact, it's not a bug but a feature to his base.

Dems lose any of their base to backbiting or the center to going too left and Trump squeaks by again.

As long as Democrat voters are sane during the primary, Trump is very vulnerable.

If the Dems weren't such facepalm worthy idiots this would be a comforting statement.

Unfortunately, reality isn't as comforting.

Negatory on the obstruction. Mueller didn't find obstruction nor did Barr.

Why play along, JeffJ?

See 2016. Or more recently, Australia.

Oversampling Dems is the routine. Spelled out in Podesta's emails.

Do you think people forget these things?

You *wish*.

No obstruction but no exoneration.

Innocent, but not proven not guilty.

Really?

Mueller found evidence of obstruction, but was unable to make a determination that it constituted criminal obstruction.
Barr reviewed the reported evidence of obstruction and determined that it was insufficient for an obstruction-of-justice charge.

There is a difference between no evidence and insufficient evidence.
If I was in a store the day it was robbed and my bank account went up $3k that same day, it is evidence that I robbed it.
The fact that I was there an hour after it was robbed to grab some milk the day that my paycheck arrived means that the above evidence was insufficient to prove that I had robbed the place.

Exactly.

That is the opposite of being able to make a determination that it constituted criminal obstruction.
