The Federal Railroad Administration announced Thursday it will not give California the $928,620,000 it was originally promised, saying the state "repeatedly failed to comply with the terms" of its grant, "failed to make reasonable progress on the Project," and "abandoned its original vision" for a train connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco.

The administration will also be seeking to recover an additional $2.5 billion in funds from the state that were allocated to the project through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a move that the California Rail Authority pleaded against in March, stating that it will "gravely harm" a shorter project.

Good. Cali is trying to rip off the taxpayers for a service it didn't deliver. Never should have received a dime in taxpayer money anyway. Want a moonbeam express in your state? Pay for it yourself.

LA Times reported today that while an uptick in Cap and Trade could potentially cover this $900M, the State has a real problem with the wording of the Federal Grant in that they have never covered the timing and expenditures conditions in the Grant and could have to give back $2.5B to the Feds.

And before the Usual Idiots of the DR Left blame this on the current administration, the State has been in default on the Grant terms since April 2015 and the FRA has been trying to claw back the money since the original default.

If the contract wasn't fulfilled, then they are right to claim back the money.
