Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey on Wednesday signed into law a controversial abortion bill that could punish doctors who perform abortions with life in prison. "Today, I signed into law the Alabama Human Life Protection Act, a bill that was approved by overwhelming majorities in both chambers of the Legislature," said Ivey, a Republican, in a statement. "To the bill's many supporters, this legislation stands as a powerful testament to Alabamians' deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God."

Christian Sharia law at its worst.

Again, Where are all of the self proclaimed "less government libertarians" that this forum was crawling with when Obama was president?

America needs you now more than ever, and you are nowhere to be found!

"deeply held belief that every life is precious and that every life is a sacred gift from God."

Lets rapists off the hook, and in fact credits them as miracle workers!

One couldn't ask for a more heartfelt display of Republican attitudes towards women.

I'm shocked you would say something like that (sarcasm?), but yeah this is against the SCOTUS ruling on privacy (it means "butt out").

I'm pro-life, and I would do anything to help, but this is stupid and wrong, won't last long, and cause an expensive legal fight for no reason because we know it ends so why?!

The correct answer is more support for mothers.

The very fact Alabama is 50th in the nation in education shows they don't give a ---- about children.

Christian Taliban wins in Alabama. No surprise. Women are property in Alabama.

The anti-abortion, pro-baby-killing crowd has won the battle, but we'll win the war.

One thing we do know based on experience and sociologic analysis is that the crime rate in Alabama will start increasing in about fifteen years in the aftermath of this law.

If Alabamans truly believe that life is precious and that it shouldn't be wasted then they should probably start moving out of Alabama.

Republicans have an incredible double standard when it comes to 'life.'

On one hand, they want to 'protect the unborn' by criminalizing a woman's right to choose.

On the other, they adamantly oppose taking away any rights at all for people to purchase and own and carry weapons that kill tens of thousands of Americans every year. In addition to taking away health care, school lunch programs, funding for women's health clinics, and other things that actually perpetuate and save human lives.

Hypocrites. Explain that!

Hilarious that the pro-war party pretends to hold life sacred. We're they just joking about shooting Mexicans last week?

Hypocritical Liar.

While the Alabama Hospital Association has pushed for Medicaid expansion for years, the issue is taking on some urgency this year. State hospitals depend on federal funding known as Disproportionate Share Hospital (DSH) payments, used to offset the cost of providing uncompensated care.

Between 2010 and 2018, five rural hospitals closed in Alabama, according to the University of North Carolina's Rural Health Research Program. Georgiana Medical Center in Butler County announced earlier this month it would close its doors due to the financial pressures rural hospitals are facing.

Medicaid expansion would improve access to preventive care, which could end up preventing between 215 and 562 deaths each year. The program may also bring more than $1 billion in new revenue to the state.

And Medicaid expansion is not on the list of legislative priorities for this session.

But, banning abortions is.

Interesting find. 2 articles, one from CNN, the other from NBC:

www.nbcnews.com
www.cnn.com

"A mother and daughter have been arrested for allegedly strangling a pregnant Chicago woman before ripping her baby from her womb, police said."

Both articles describe the thing that was cut out of her womb as a baby. Sensationalism?

No, viability. The fetus was 9 months old.

- the opposite opinion

I realize, Alexandrite, that many here latch onto a political actor and breathlessly regurgitate their every utterance.

like you for example. you're a sheep. a puppet. you don't have a view or opinion unless someone tells you to have one.

Then you'll blindly argue the point. It's called being a tool, Alex. Alex the Tool.
