The Trump White House told the House Judiciary Committee to "discontinue" its investigations into the president's alleged abuses of power, labeling them "an unauthorized 'do-over'" of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. "Congressional investigations are intended to obtain information to aid in evaluating potential legislation, not to harass political opponents or to pursue an unauthorized 'do-over' of exhaustive law enforcement investigations conducted by the Department of Justice," White House counsel Pat Cipollone wrote to the committee on Wednesday.

Rather than invoke executive privilege to block access, the letter says, the president will simply refuse to cooperate with congressional oversight and investigations he views as illegitimate.

How To End The Constitutionalist Crisis

by Thom Hartmann

Pundits are saying that Trump is leading us into a constitutional crisis because Barr will slow-walk every effort of Congress to do oversight, and the court proceedings will drag on past the elections. But the Constitution says that if Congress simply and officially declares that they're investigating the possibility of impeachment, then the Courts no longer play a role at all. Congress becomes, essentially, a grand jury that can call its own witnesses and issue its own decisions, including the decision to remove a president from office.

Trump has already been accused by federal courts of violating federal election laws by paying off Stormy and Karen to hide his affairs before the election, and his felonies obstructing justice are laid out in detail in the Mueller report. It's time for Congress to do its job and begin impeachment hearings.

Impeach or get off the pot!

I mean that literally; put down the weed.

they're investigating the possibility of impeachment

Not good enough, Nadler has already tried to go that mealy mouthed route and it will get him nowhere.

It's time for Congress to do its job and begin impeachment hearings.

According to House Rules they actually have to start the process, but the hearings can go on for months. However, they have to have a vote at the end or they will be in much worse shape than they are now.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told Democrats in a closed-door caucus meeting Wednesday morning to stick to their policy agenda ahead of the 2020 election rather than initiate impeachment proceedings. And not a single lawmaker challenged her.

Trump is like that dead chicken you tie around the neck of an egg sucking hound

the longer he is there, the more the "conservatives" smell.

the devout won't care, they will tolerate everything and everything no matter how foul, as already demonstrated

but everyone else ----- everyone else will distance themselves

Nancy, let that chicken rot on the GOP's neck.

The Trump ethos is that friends are just people you can take advantage of. They are just a subset of the group EVERYONE ELSE and as such are just a nicer enemy. Cooperation is communism.

More thumbing his nose at oversight by a coequal branch of government.

I'm sure all the Constitutional experts on the right will be here shortly to condemn him.

He can give the House whatever directives he wants..

The House is under no obligation to comply because the House doesn't answer to POTUS.

The POTUS is under no obligation to comply with House records requests because the POTUS doesn't answer the House.

(Fixed that for ya, JeffJ.)

We haven't heard the last (or much of) of what Michael Flynn has to say yet.

He well may show up in front of House committees (and TV cameras) to spill the beans on what he heard from the president-elect and the president and his staff about Russian help with the election ...
