Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has expanded his lead over a wide field of candidates for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination by 5 percentage points since he entered the race in late April, according to a monthly Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Interesting that the millennial numbers that support Bernie in this poll (18%) differ so much from the number of Bernie supporters (35%) in the same group in the Morning Consult poll that I posted yesterday.

Joe is enjoying the benefits of having so many progressives running and siphoning support away from Bernie. As more and more of them drop out, these numbers will change.

Seniors only want Biden because he's a familiar face. He's still their Joe Cool. They're hoping he beats Trump on personality and conservative policies.

Millennials (which based on what I've seen, are people between the ages of 20-38) want Bernie because his ideas respond to challenges we're facing in today's economy. We're hoping he beats Trump with ideas and initiatives.

Deplorables want Trump because they'd rather vote for a pedophile than a Democrat. Trump's hoping to beat Trump by denying he is who he was.

I was actually looking at the numbers of Democrats in this poll to see if that was in fact the case and if Bernie got 100% of Warren's (9%), Harris' (8%) and O'Rourke's (7%) voters he would still only lead Biden 39-36% among registered Democrats. Even if Bernie got 90% of those votes, he would only be tied with Biden at this point among Democratic voters.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.

#5 | Posted by leftcoastlawyer at 2019-05-15 01:15 PM | Reply

As the race tightens I can see some Sanders supporters pulling away and moving toward someone like Warren.

The reason: He's not a Democrat and he's trying to secure the nomination to be the #1 guy in the Democratic Party.

#6 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-05-15 01:27 PM | Reply

The fact that he's not a Democrat will likely come up at some point and if it's delivered properly I think it will resonate with some Democrat voters.

I won't vote for Biden. Neither will millions of others that are sick and tired of party-Democrat do-nothings.

We need a different direction, and Bernie and Warren are the only ones who seem to be speaking to that.

..maybe Tulsi and Kamala, but I doubt they can beat Trump.

Blame anyone and everyone except the strategy that lost 2016.

You voted for Jill Stein.
Who did Bernie say to vote for?
Who do you expect Bernie will say to vote for if he doesn't get the nomination in 2020?

Not listening to Bernie is the losing strategy.

You have been trumpeting the losing strategy since before the election, Comrade.

It's what you do.

It's all you do.

I don't vote for less evil, or "against" someone. I'll vote for policy.

If the DNC wants my vote, they need a candidate promoting forward-positive policy.
But they won't, will they? No, they'll prop up crony-Joe and then blame-and-complain when they lose.

You're part of the problem, foam-helmet-snoofy-hans. Instead of demanding a quality candidate,

you want to blame me for not voting your ------- in.

Play that old-head, middle of the road dead mans hand again and give us 4 more years of trump. Male Hillary will turn out just the same. It's the policy, stupid.

Why vote for her then?

"If the DNC wants my vote, they need a candidate promoting forward-positive policy."

All Putin needs is for the DNC to not get your vote.

Choosing to sideline yourself is why we have the saying "All it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to so nothing."

(Not that you are a good man, by any stretch of the imagination. I'm writing this for others who might be reading, and don't know your history of dishonesty.)

On the anti-vaxx front, they won in 2016, so presumably they're thrilled.

If you like the product the DNC is putting out, by all means, vote for it. I don't care for the product, so I'm not buying it.
The only reason that you want me to buy it, is to act as a hedge against the Trump product.

That's not how it werks. I know that's how they WANT it to work - "vote for us because we're not Trump" - but, no thanks.

Put together a product that has value, vision, a plan and policies for Americans to move forward, and I'll buy in.
But I won't participate in continuing the DNC bait-and-switch pack of lies program.

I'd rather see it fail. And it will.

You and your hysteria pals are willing to burn it to the ground to get your way. I hope to see that fail as well.

That is how it works.

There were only two people with a chance to be elected President on November 8, 2016.

Can you name them?

#24 | Posted by snoofy at 2019-05-15 08:06 PM | Reply

- two people with a chance

Actually, there's only one, Trump.

Because the DNC is gonna trot out another turd

Instead of a visionary with public policy that benefits everyone and energizes the majority.

The part where you pretend you used to be a Democrat, or a liberal, is worn pretty thin by now.

The only people who can pull that off are Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms types.

Sure, label me because I've tired of the BS and refuse to continue it.

It's all you have, because you certainly won't have a candidate worth voting for.

They're in the pack now, but the DNC and MSM will squash the life out of them. just like last time.

Here's a winning combo that will beat Trump, but never happen:
Sanders/Warren with Tulsi, AOC, and Kamala traveling with them in a pack.

DNC/MSM will never have it. ever. They're going to make sure Biden is the man.

and they're going to lose, then blame everyone except themselves.

You're not known for your subtlety or your brevity, but I see what you are doing here.

Fact is, for any progressive Biden is a big step in the left direction.

The purity ponies need to understand the Overton Window. Even with a Sanders or Warren in the WH they will have limitations on what they can accomplish due to checks and balances and a public that is more moderate than they are.

Biden would probably be more successful at accomplishing a progressive agenda than Warren or Sanders. He'd be more inclined to sign a bill that produces 80% of what he wants with a little compromise thrown in than a Sanders or Warren. It's better to get most of what you want than to sit on a high horse and get nothing.

I don't know how well she would fare against the Trumpublican slander machine or in debate against Trump.

But. I guess that could be said about any of the Democratic candidates.

How can that possibly be true?

So Humpy Trumpy can: be caught on tape disparaging women, lose OVER a billion dollars, declare bankruptcy 4 times, have sex with a porn star while his wife is pregnant and then pay off said porn star violating campaign finance laws, violate the Constitution (emolument clause) cooperate with Russia to undermine our elections processes, obstruct the investigation into Russian interference in our elections, create an "enemies list" and use the power of his office to attack them, support authoritarian dictators even when they hack up reporters, defy and obstruct Congress their oversight duty and tell 10,000 LIES and he can still be relected?

I need to check my passport and see what country I am in.
