At a meeting of President Trump's top national security aides last Thursday, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan presented an updated military plan that envisions sending as many as 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons, administration officials said.

Fat Nixon needs his war to save his sagging poll numbers.

Is the US dumb enough to fall for another Iraq?

Trump's fear of not being elected in 2020 is such that he will gladly kill a few thousand people, American and otherwise. I think he sees a war as his ultimate protection against impeachment. Which he fears, not wants. He'll have a war and the Traitor will accuse anyone who opposes him as being traitors.

This is the sort of manipulation that's going to challenge the focus, and courage, of patriots.

A few thousand? Riiight!!! Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions.

"Is the US dumb enough to fall for another Iraq?"

America was dumb enough to fall for the tax cuts for the rich which, of course, will pay for themselves. Never undrestimate the stupidity of the American people. I predict that if we do go to war in Iran it will have unforseen consequences which will gravely harm the United States. The world is tired of our crap. Russia and China will emerge as the winners of any such idiotic, unnecessary, cruel and murderous war. Donald Trump will be impeached if this happens and his name will be ruined forever.

Trump hasn't got a fist in place for an all-out war. He may wish to avoid the build-up to such a war, because that would give time for opposition in an essentially war-weary US to build.

If we're going to impeach him, we might want to do it sooner than later. Trump's going to argue we've got no right after the bombs start dropping.

#7 | Posted by Zed at 2019-05-14 08:00 AM | Reply

But hey, at least the oil will pay for the war just like it did last time. Congress should act today and pass a bill forbidding any attack on Iran with the threat of impeachment actually stated in the bill so that the cowardly Republicans will be forced to convict him if the Dems bring the Article of Impeachment. Another unelected President dragging us into another unnecessary war and many of you voted for both Bush and Trump. My God I'd be ashamed.

Maybe one point of a new war is to emphasize that soldiers sacrifice more than farmers?

We should do it first thing this morning. Let the Senate Republicans deal with the fact that if we don't get this jerk out of office we're going to war for nothing. Mitch McConnell should be on the front lines if we do.

It's a good idea. War is Congress's Constitutional duty. Claim it back of loose it to some dictator forever.

"Claim it back of loose it to some dictator forever."

Exactly.

I almost can't believe that Americans aren't out in the streets right now but then I know most Americans don't even care, it's not their own sons who will die. It is some poor kid who volunteered because he wanted a job or possibly educational benefits if he survives Trump's war. Yesterday there was a story on NPR about a young Mexican man who fought for us in Afghanistan but now is being deported. I find that to be absolutely disgraceful and Trump is responsible for it.

I'd like Trumpists to commit to supporting this new war now, in advance of Czar Donald's next self-serving whim. Get ahead of the curve, you sycophants.

The threat of war is especially acute today because I suspect a judge will rule that Donald Trump has no right to dodge Congressional subpoenas.

Too funny. He campaigned on it so hard, but nobody really cared.

While we're at it... A show of hands from everyone who voted for Hillary, knowing she voted to invade Iraq, spearheaded the American effort to turn Libya into anarchy, and called for a No Fly Zone that is really an all out air assault on Syria.

Don't forget, we have to support our Allies! A quick check of whom those are...

Everyone voted for the Iraq invasion because your Republican President lied about them trying to get nukes.

And everything else is just outright lies.

Do your country a favor, don't vote or procreate.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues, --
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

I recall polls saying 70% or so were against the tax scam.

It was the GOP paid operatives in Congress that were for it to reward the people they work for.
