Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

A California jury on Monday awarded more than $2 billion to a couple who claimed Bayer AG's glyphosate-based Roundup weed killer caused their cancer, in the largest U.S. jury verdict to date against the company in litigation over the chemical.

"It was the third consecutive U.S. jury verdict against the company in litigation over the chemical, which Bayer acquired as part of its $63 billion purchase of Monsanto last year. Both other jury verdicts also came in California, one in state court and one in federal court.

Shareholders have rebuked the company's top management over its handling of the Monsanto acquisition and the litigation it inherited, which has wiped around 30 billion euros ($33.55 billion) from Bayer's market value since the first jury verdict."

Monsanto made DDT.

I saw a B&W video of them spraying a classroom of little kids with a massive dose of it to prove it was safesometime after WW2. Nobody knows what happened to them.

It was about to cause Silent Spring. And it doesn't break doesn't down in the environment -it bioaccumulates and it's still here.

As Corky said: live by the gun, die by the gun - or this time lawyers and money.

There is a reason why Roundup is banned in Europe.

Here it is routinely sprayed on our food supply.

The effects of long term exposure to this poison is just beginning to be understood. Cancer is just one outcome.

A mix of vinegar, epsom salts and dawn dish detergent works just as well as the poison Monsanto pushes.

Still used today for disease control. It seems people really dislike malaria.

Remember, corporations are people. Monsanto legally is a person. Monsanto is our friend. What's a little murderous cancer among friends?

Jury didn't say they were. It was a punitive award. It's meant to punish the company.

Mackenzie Bezos - $35.7-billion
Alice Walton - $45 billion
Francoise Bettencourt Meyers - $52.9 billion

But no worries Snippy the couple will probably never live long enough to actually see any of it. It was obviously the victims fault.

"Bayer in a statement said it was disappointed with the verdict and will appeal, adding that both Alva and Alberta Pilliod had long histories of illnesses known to be substantial risk factors for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma."

How can you guys compare my writing style with Moder8's style? Oh for pete's sakes! S/he writes in stanzas!

I was going to write something about Neil Young and his fight with Monsanto. Screw y'all.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe a $million to go for the kill shot with. And had to be the ass-inflation thing from the other thread.

But I will use Helium.

It's my signature.

Imagine how much RoundUp they can buy with two billion dollars!

At current valuation this makes them like 3% owners in Bayer.

I stupidly used it in my back yard years ago without the proper gloves. The skin on my hands peeled off the next day. I recovered quickly but it was a lesson learned.
