Carter Center: While leaving to go turkey hunting this morning, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter fell at his home in Plains, Georgia. He is recovering comfortably from surgery to repair a broken hip at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia. His surgeon stated that the surgery was successful. His wife, Rosalynn, is with him. President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit. He hopes the State of Georgia will allow him to rollover the unused limit to next year.

Carter is still hunting?

I hope God grants him four more years.

He's the best x-President America ever had.

Yikes, a broken hip at 94 is tough to recover from. He does seem like a tough old bird though.

They usually are the beginning of the end, I hope Jimmah pulls through.

Sometimes the fall is the result, not the cause of hip fracture.

I met President Carter on a flight between NY and Atlanta about 15 years ago, he introduced himself to everyone in First Class and had a brief chat with each of us, he is the epitome of a Southern Gentleman.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

I would give that distinction to Herbert Hoover.

"I would give that distinction to Herbert Hoover."

I would as well. The older Hoover got, the wiser he became. Until he endorsed Barry Goldwater, however.

Only by the used of outright treason did Reagan tear down Carter's popularity by making a deal with the Ayatollah of Iran to hold our American hostages until after the election. Carter's popularity fell during that entire debacle and Ted Koppel got a show out of that by showing how many days they were held every single day. Carter was a good President, he dealt with huge problems not of his own creation.

Carter's legacy has been helped considerably by the complete ineptitude of two of the four Republican presidents that followed him.
