It was a startling spectacle in the heart of Trump country: At least a dozen supporters of the president -- some wearing MAGA stickers -- nodding their heads, at times even clapping, for liberal firebrand Elizabeth Warren.

After the election, Trump voters told those who study such things that they were not against a stronger safety net in this country... as long as it didn't also benefit those who they'd been brainwashed into thinking were their enemies; minorities and immigrants.

Republicans are proud of their success in pushing those divisive memes for their donors; their efforts at perception over reality, denigrating science, news, and facts, has paid of for them big time as a divide and conquer the People strategery.

What the people know is that they are hurting even though they are being told everything is great economically so they look for someone who offers them new ideas or solutions.

unfortunately people seem to have a hard time recognizing a con man offering them answers like Trump compared to legitimate answers offered by the like of Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders

There is a maximum amount that people are willing to give to welfare programs in this country - in that sense, all other 'takers' are their competition if not outright enemies. If we give immigrants (legal and illegal) benefits, we are not only allocating those resources away from US citizens, but we are actively encouraging more immigrants given the free benefits. Thinking people used to understand this - liberals seem to have stopped thinking. I think that goes a long way in explaining the out of control homeless issues in San Francisco, LA, Seattle, San Diego, Sacramento, etc. Most of the homeless are not from these areas, they moved there for the lax police enforcement and free handouts. So, regardless of how much the cities throw at homeless shelters, needle and a feces pick-up, etc - the numbers of homeless only grow. Liberals better wake up now or the next recession will only be that much worse. The rich are leaving these cities as they turn into sewers. Public schools are closing due to falling enrollment as no one wants to raise a child around that. Once only a few rich leave and tourism continues its plummet (reference San Fran's fall from grace in hosting conventions), the cities will be stuck with oppressive poverty and no financial means to combat it.

Well, except that is not true. People that actually want to work can easily find work. Not only that, wages and benefits are increasing due to the shortage of workers finally driving up competition and allowing supply/demand to work normally in the labor market (probably why the Dems want to import 2M+ illegals this year). Those that are 'hurting' have a lifetime of bad decisions and lack of motivation to blame for it. And let's face it, they weren't going to vote for Trump anyway. They want free stuff - NOT THE ABILITY TO EARN ENOUGH TO BUY THEIR OWN STUFF. This is an important difference. Dems are marginalized minorities based on lifestyle choices, economic losers, convicted felons, welfare queens/kings, and the 0.001% that control the large tech companies that need their braindead minions to keep voting for policies that soak the middle class and not the 0.001%.

The Seattle area is the ninth fastest-growing metro in the nation, gaining about 1,100 residents per week according to population estimates issued this morning by the U.S. Census Bureau.

"According to a Pew Research Center analysis of census data, since 2000, U.S. urban and suburban populations have grown at least as much as they did over the prior decade. But the total rural population has grown less than it did in the 1990s, when rising numbers fed hope of a modest "rural rebound." As a result, a somewhat smaller share of Americans now live in rural counties (14% vs. 16% in 2000)."

Seattle is dying - you don't have to believe me - here is the report from KOMO Channel 4 (ABC affiliate). Pay close attention to the demented meth head - he is from Reno. You are importing this human trash with your liberal policies. With Amazon moving high paying jobs out of the area, it will be the start of a broader trend. Same trend as CA as a whole. Middle class people leave replaced with a growing permanent underclass.

Punchy's statement--the one you quoted--is correct; crime rates were roughly double what they are today. So if Seattle is "------ city that is dying"...why didn't it die in the 80s when crime was so much worse? And if it's such ------", why are real estate prices so much higher than, say, the s-hole YOU live in?

Are you seriously asking this question? The answer is simple - MSFT and Amazon. These two companies brought unprecedented growth to the area in high wages jobs directly for the 2 companies and the support companies that spring up around them. MSFT employees 30-40K workers in the area and AMZN another 40K. And guess what - neither company is going to ever add that many employees in the region again and are actively growing sites outside the area. Thus, Seattle is growing their population by importing poor people looking for handouts now - not the middle class and upper middle class people that work at these type of tech jobs. As a result, we will see the CA effect play out in Seattle with a shrinking number of uber rich ruling over a city with a poverty rate rapidly increasing. Of course, this does not happen overnight but I would predict you will see the poverty rate increase from 10% to 20% in the next 4-5 years.

Yes, in fact they are - I have already provided you 2 links on this. If you want to see the future, look to what is happening in San Fran right now - that will be Seattle in 5 years. If you want to see the end result of this, look at Oakland where the homelessness and crime rates have stopped new tech development for a few years already. The city is bankrupt and stealing 'gas tax' money specifically targeted to road repair/maintenance by law to keep their street lights on - and this is in the 'best of times'. The next economic downturn will ravage CA.

It is the end result of these liberal policies. Bloated government bureaucracies, failing public institutions (like schools), influx of poor people, out-migration of wealthy, and never putting a penny away in a rainy day fund because you assume the good time last forever. Oakland will declare bankruptcy in the next downturn. Vallejo is a great proxy for that. Even looking at the Pacific NW - a lot of the growth was due to out-migration from CA of tech workers looking to escape the "Detroitization" of the Bay Area and SoCal. Portland especially benefit from this with Intel being one of their big drivers. Those days are ending now as tech has shifted from hardware to social media and apps focused on marketing rather than building actual products. So, giant teams are no longer needed and they can move anywhere. Even MSFT is moving - like Reno for xbox development. This will not end well for the Pacific NW just like it is not ending well for Oakland.

I don't believe either is true - so my views are consistent. Do you believe both to be true? I am for keeping tax rates on corporations high but with incentives to invest in fixed assets in the US. I would even change the code to give larger tax discounts for expenses such as employee wages to encourage wage growth and hiring activity. For tariffs, if they are long term, they will be beneficial to the US. If they are short term or people believe them to only be short term, they are not effective tools other than raising a bit of revenue.

Here I think this says it all

"KOMO's 'Seattle Is Dying' News Special Is Killing Me

The local iteration of Trump TV (aka KOMO) recently aired an hour-long News Special attempting to offer an examination of Seattle's homeless crisis that's as sober as possible. To make sure the viewer is sufficiently alarmed, it is called "Seattle Is Dying." This city -- with a GDP of over $250 billion and a corporate community with a market-capital value that's over $2 trillion -- is experiencing nothing less than its final days. It has one foot in the grave. The problem? KOMO believes that it's a lack of dick-hard policing. Seattle's law enforcers are powerless, or, to use the sexually charged wording of a cop who's interviewed in the special, impotent. One shot shows bike cops unable to do a damn thing about Rastafarians sitting on a park bench. The liberal City Council, and not Jah, is protecting them from Babylon's oppressors.

Sinclair-owned right wing Seattle TV station KOMO made a documentary about the homeless and they might want to go back to film school where they teach you -- on the first day -- not to shoot subjects from a distance, with a long lens, as if they are dangerous wild animals. t.co

Democrat Seattle IS dying and WE JUST LOVE IT!

WE have delighted in each and every news item where democrats have brought pain and misery by following the examples of the great democrat utopia's LALA and SANFRAN.

Why you ask?

Simple - for decades (50's actually) we have chaffed under democrat control of Seattle. We want it to stop. So every bad news story from Seattle only hastens our dream.

...to break apart Washington State and start a new state called "Liberty". The movement is very old and very real. But the argument has always been the same.... without Seattle.... the whole state would just dry up and become Idaho.

But today is different.. our argument now is that Seattle IS dying and they will drag the rest of the state down to the level of California.

One was about a couple out of Washington state who blew themselves up with a homemade IED, and the other was about the attempt to bomb the Spokane Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade. In both cases, I talked to local law-enforcement people who were genuinely worried that every traffic stop might end in an explosion."

Our politicians, however, know more and disagree less, privately. Publicly they manipulate the public and lie in accordance with the dictates of their party and their donors. What is in the best interest of the public never gets written into law.

After seeing what Trump gets them.. all alternatives have to be examined.

And as for homeless out west... just maybe related to the mild climate?... hard to survive Buffalo in the winter.. Portland not so hard

It does seem like out of all of them, Warren is offering the most free stuff.

It has been said that you can't out-Bernie Bernie...but I think she may have.

"please go ahead and go away make your own damnable state."

It wouldn't matter. Californians would still move there and take over. They leave CA due to that state's high cost of living and unending rules, and then try and impose them on the damnable residents who are already there.

I know because my family has been fleeing California for Idaho since the 1970s.

"She cares about people and wants government to do its job and help the weak while punishing predators."

Based on what I read here...people aren't that smart. Eventually, even those who call themselves conservatives will realize that progressives will offer more free stuff than republicans. And all it will cost is a vote.

It's probably --------, of course. Unless those who already incur high tax rates are willing to pay even more.

Portland is a cold, miserable rainy place for much of the year. Not that homeless people can be accused of being smart, but if I were homeless, Key West would be the place to go.

Exporting Hollywood values.

"The allure of Los Angeles may be the good weather, beaches, and the glitz and glam of Hollywood. However, the Los Angeles area has around 50,000 people who are currently experiencing homelessness. Natasha Sokol, a student at Chapman University, shows us how extreme the inequality really is in her video below.

Colorado is an excellent example.

In the near future I will be heading to McCall, joining the migration!

I went up there looking for property, on my return the security checkpoint checked my DL, then asked why I was in Idaho. I told him looking for property, he rolled his eyes and said "you and every other Californian."

Sad but true ...

Its all good though right? I mean this generation doesn't have to pay for it now ... just kick it down the road to your kids kids ...

I won't be around to see the collapse ...

Winning! Am I right?

There should be a website showing where Californians settle, so we know what places to avoid. I don't want to accidentally move to a bad part of town.

You just cheered increasing that bad action by an additional 10% of all the debt we've incurred since 1776. You don't get to pretend someone else is to blame.
