Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The US labor market keeps getting stronger. Employers added 263,000 jobs in April, another surprisingly strong month of hiring. Economists surveyed by Refinitiv expected the economy to add only 185,000 jobs last month. The unemployment rate fell to 3.6%, the lowest level since December 1969.

In a sense, fmr Pres Obama is correct. How do you bring back the jobs that were sent overseas by companies seeking higher profits?

From the cited article,

...Some of the strongest sectors for hiring included the construction industry, which added 33,000 jobs, and health care, which added 27,000 jobs. Restaurants and bars added 25,000 jobs....

Those do not look like jobs that were brought back from overseas, but jobs that were created by the fact that, according to the headline of the cited article, "US economy has added jobs for 103 straight months."

So, again I'll say, I congratulate Pres Trump for not screwing up the recovery that fmr Pres Obama laid the gorundwork for.

Now, back to the summary's question... How is Pres Trump going to bring back all those jobs that were sent overseas by corporations seeking higher profits? What is Pres Trump's magic wand?

fwiw, Pres Trump promised that his tax cut would make corporations bring $4 trillion back to the US from overseas cash hoards.

How well has that worked out?

Trump promised to bring back $4 trillion in offshore cash. He missed by $3.3 trillion
www.accountingtoday.com

...Corporate America brought $664.9 billion of offshore profits back to the U.S. last year, falling short of the $4 trillion President Donald Trump said would return as a result of the 2017 tax overhaul.

Companies repatriated $85.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2018, the lowest sum for the year and down from $100.7 billion the previous quarter, Commerce Department data showed Wednesday. Corporations brought back $579 billion in the first three quarters of 2018, upwardly revised from $571.3 billion in the prior report....

Hopefully, Pres Trump's magic wand for bringing back overseas jobs works better than his magic wand for bringing back overseas corporate cash.

Where is Snippy to remind us of all the folks who have given up..or are too old... or are too young... or dead or something.

I think there were about 93 zillion Americans no longer in the labor force who had given up or something.....according to Snippy...when Obama was the Preznit.

"If you really look, Sarah, at the economy, it's been terrible," Trump said. "We have 93 million people out of work. They look for jobs, they give up, and all of a sudden, statistically, they're considered employed."

"I don't think we're getting the truth out of the White House -- the true state of the economy." Trump agreed, saying, "The White House is not truthful."

What happened to those 93 million people? Did they all die on Jan 21 2017?

If you think we are suddenly getting the Truth out of this White House then I suggest you....Think Again.

@#4 ... And this is a crappy economy? ...

Who said it was crappy, not me. Indeed, I congratulate Pres Trump for not screwing fmr Pres Obama's recovery.

But to the point of the summary, which you seem to be missing (or avoiding)...

How do you think Pres Trump will fulfill his promise to bring back the jobs that corporations sent overseas in order to obtain higher profits?

@#5 ... Anyone going to point out that the headline is wrong? Lowest UNemployment... ...

I usually click through to read the article and the original headline (and noted it in #1), not really reading the summary's headline.

I usually skip the summary's headline because I've noticed some folk make it intentionally misleading.

Easy-peasy - corporate tax cuts provide assurance of jobs, healthier workers and bellies full of num-nums!

Lessie, jobs moved offshore for the millionth time, he's cut ACA and SNAP benefits..

The waste from his appointees should be evidence Trump has zero accountability over spending. The border contracting indicates collusion with bigoted POS corporations that want to invent a new prison system at the highest cost possible. Reminds me of FEMA contracting after Katrina.

The unemployment rate fell to 3.6%, the lowest level since December 1969.

Indications of strength of the labor market could be found throughout the report. The average hourly wage was up 3.2% compared to a year ago, well above the 1.9% rise in prices, meaning real gains in the paychecks of average workers.

How about you congradulate Trump without putting Obama's name in it?

So I guess you believe if Obama had a 3rd term, the economy would still be doing what it's doing? Even though he was in office for 8 years?

Because he doesn't deserve it.

Do you congratulate somebody for not crashing their car? No. You don't congratulate people for doing what they're expected to do.

You don't congratulate people for doing what they're expected to do.

Obama had eight years to produce the results Trump has done in two. You cannot say Obama did this economy, when in actuality, it's been Trumps loosening of regulations and working with businesses/tax cuts that has spurred this growth.

In republican fairy tale land, the economy was on a downhill slide under Obama. All the numbers were fake until Trump was elected and then his magic unicorn farts made all the numbers from the same sources real.

The fact is that the needle hasn't moved. The trend has been consistently positive since Obama's 2nd year in office.

The world began in 2016 for Trump supporters so showing them the chart above is meaningless. They can't see the part before 2016

You're just regurgitating talking points because you've never actually checked the numbers and indicators.

None of the major indicators are substantially different than they were when Trump took over. Those same indicators changed substantially during Obama's eight years in office.

You're essentially saying that the guy who's only running the final 5 miles of a marathon is the better runner because he ran those five miles faster than the guy who's run the entire 26 miles.

"You don't congratulate people for doing what they're expected to do.

It's actually more like Obama produced eight years of growth, and so far Trump has produced two.

Holler back in six years.

Its more like if Obama drove the entire race at Bristol started in 42nd position. Got the car into 1st place, got the crew put together so the car is unbeatable. Then Trump gets in and drives the last 40 laps and takes credit for going from last to first

Thank you, President Obama, for saving our economy from the edge of the cliff - with ZERO help from Republicans - and leaving Trump a great economy.

He didn't build it, you did.
