A Massachusetts District Court Judge and Trial Court Officer were indicted today in federal court in Boston on obstruction of justice charges for preventing an ICE Officer from taking custody of an alien defendant. Shelley M. Richmond Joseph, 51, of Natick, who was appointed as a Massachusetts District Court Judge in November 2017, and Wesley MacGregor, 56, of Watertown, a former Trial Court Officer since 1993, were indicted on one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice and two counts of obstruction of justice -- aiding and abetting. MacGregor was also charged with one count of perjury. "This case is about the rule of law," said United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling. "The allegations in today's indictment involve obstruction by a sitting judge, that is intentional interference with the enforcement of federal law, and that is a crime. We cannot pick and choose the federal laws we follow, or use our personal views to justify violating the law. Everyone in the justice system -- not just judges, but law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and defense counsel -- should be held to a higher standard. The people of Massachusetts expect that, just like they expect judges to be fair, impartial and to follow the law themselves."

... "This case is about the rule of law," ...

Yup.

So when are the Republicans in Congress going to take a similarly dim view of Pres Trump's apparent obstruction of justice?

Or are they going to continue to apply the law only when it suits their agenda, and not when such an application supports the Constitution?

So... no one disagrees with me that the Republicans in Congress are abdicating their sworn Constitutional responsibilities here?

Wow.

I don't disagree with you Lamp, they have abandoned any and all belief in the rule of law except when it is their enemies, then, of course, they are all for law and order. Hypocrites all.

I'm not sure that you fully understand how this works. The AG has declined to press charges of OoJ against Trump based on the extent of the evidence that has been presented by the Mueller investigation. From a legal perspective, Republicans have no responsibilities.

Republicans in the House of Representatives have the same impeachment responsibilities as the Democrats (and I) in the HoR. Thus far, every petition to bring forth an impeachment has not even reached the stage to call for a vote. The last time, only 58 people in total voted to move it forward, or as www.politico.com puts it 'Trump Impeachment Vote Fails Overwhelmingly'.

I know that pointing fingers at the opposition is all the rage these days, but please do be aware that when you can just as easily and honestly replace the word 'Republicans' and 'Democrats' in the same attack, as you can in the one you made, it paints you as extremely partisan to only criticize one group for what both are responsible for. Except in this case, the Republicans don't have enough votes to impeach, while the Democrats do. Yet, you chose to attack the Republicans.
