Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, April 25, 2019

A recent uptick in sightings of unidentified flying objects -- or, as the military calls them, "unexplained aerial phenomena" -- prompted the U.S. Navy to draft formal procedures for pilots to document encounters, a corrective measure that former officials say is long overdue. "Since 2014, these intrusions have been happening on a regular basis," Joseph Gradisher, spokesman for the deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare, told the Washington Post on Wednesday.

"If I came to you and said, ‘There are these things that can fly over our country with impunity, defying the laws of physics, and within moments could deploy a nuclear device at will' -- that would be a matter of national security."

Soooo, you're saying Occam's Razor doesn't quite fit here considering aliens and their technology have not been appropriately acknowledged (for obvious reasons, mainly being the probability that they don't want to be acknowledged -- if it's truly 'they').

Why?

The cited article tends to understate one aspect of this...

...

According to Mellon, awestruck and baffled pilots, concerned that reporting unidentified flying aircraft would adversely affect their careers, tended not to speak up. And when they did, he said there was little interest in investigating their reports.

"Imagine you see highly advanced vehicles, they appear on radar systems, they look bizarre, no one knows where they're from. This happens on a recurring basis, and no one does anything," said Mellon, who now works with UFODATA, a private organization. Because agencies don't share this type of information, it's difficult to know the full extent of activity. Still, he estimated that dozens of incidents were witnessed by naval officers in a single year, enough to force the service to address the issue.

"Pilots are upset, and they're trying to help wake up a slumbering system," he told the Post.

Lawmakers' growing curiosity and concern also appeared to coax action out of the Navy...

...pilots ... tended not to speak up. And when they did, he said there was little interest in investigating their reports....

It was not that there was little interest in their reports, it was more that such reports were often career-ending for pilots.

@#2 ... Why? ...

Is Stephen Hawking right about aliens?

I'm sure it was a combination. Ending of careers suggests that the phenomenon is alien in nature and there's a cover up. If the issue is as compartmentalized as it seems to be, it's probably a combination of both little interest by some who are ignorant (or feel there is nothing that can be done to track or address the phenomenon) and also the risk of losing career at the hands of someone fully in the know.

He'd most likely be an adherent to the 'Dark Forrest' theory.

An awesome scifi read, BTW.

It's a trap!

Radio and TV broadcasts only travel about 1.7 light-years before they attenuate to the point that they get swamped by cosmic background radiation, so the author is wrong about the Great Silence.

Trust me on that - it took us forever to find your planet, and then we had find a way to mutate into your form. Ew.

"Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Aliens entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on," he said, adding the word "hell" for emphasis this time.

Watch the first hour of a movie Thrive. It talks a lot about crop circles.

I promise it will mess with your mind.

Lol

But I'm truly interested in a skeptic's opinion on this matter. I've heard government officials try to explain these sightings away, unconvincingly. Now that government officials are (being allowed?) Lending credence to these sightings, who is willing to step up and claim swamp gas again?

I don't think an adequate explanation has ever been provided about the origin of crop circles.

If you watch Thrive, you will see there are some very elaborate crop circles that are so precise and complex there is absolutely no way they were made on the ground.

Even looking at the plants that are bent over, they are so incredibly uniform and even, the only way it could have happened would be for the entire design to just happen instantly and surely directed from high above.

Seems to me these elaborate designs are either someone's idea of art, or they are messages being left for someone else to see.

We always hear about people who claim to make them with boards and ropes but if you look closely at some of the photos, there is no way some of these could possibly have been made using that method.

You would need to have a mind first.

Crop circles are a proven hoax.

They redesigned the form for resigning your commission. Now it is titled "unexplained aerial phenomena report"

Donner,

Link to a video showing someone giving a demonstration of making one as elaborate, complex and perfectly even as some of the photos.

You won't find one.

Many (probably even most) are man-made but some of them are just far too detailed and perfect to have been created by a rope and boards.

You can tell the difference looking at the photos how the crops are laying in different directions and some other photos the crops are perfectly bent over and laying together in a common direction.

One of the points brought out in the movie Thrive is that many of the designs are actually 3D images viewed in 2D.

Sort of like looking at a photo of a round 3 dimensional object.

Once you have seen how these flat images appear in 3D, it changes how you see them.

Donner....you might want to try using more of your mind.

I'm not saying this is aliens from outer space.

What I am saying is an adequate explanation for some of the more detailed crop circles has not been provided.

Crop circles require no further explanation than human activity. I know people who make them.

(Sone) UFOs are in my mind truly unexplained.
