Chinese leader Xi Jinping has refashioned the People's Liberation Army into a force that's rapidly closing the gap on U.S. firepower -- and in some vital areas has surpassed it. American victory over China in a regional war is no longer assured.

We can thank the greedy American corporations who moved manufacturing to China for funding China's efforts

Pakistan Navy test fired a nuclear cruise missile yesterday. That is not anything to worry about.

What is to worry about is that the missile has a range of at least 700km and was fired from a tiny missile boat aka "Fast Attack Craft". Missile works as Sea-to-Land and Sea-to-Sea. And the boats are easy to manufacture in Karachi and they are fast, small, and hard to locate by radar until too late.

Point is, this wouldn't have been possible if America was in as much control as they pretend to be. And it certainly would not have been deployed. It's deployed on Pak Navy boats BECAUSE they know America can't protect itself much less anyone else.

Chinese war tech is based on Russian and French systems. And mostly on their own research.

American missiles (for example) are not good enough and don't have the range. Not worth stealing from.

So you can stop trying to make yourself feel important. They got nothing from you.

Don't you mean "us"? :-)

When Americans act stoopid, it's "you".

When they act smart, it's "us".

It's funny watching liberal armchair people say stuff like this. China doesnt have the capability to even come close to the U.S. in terms of strategy, military might and projection of power. I've been in physical military exercises with the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and Europe.

Usually when it came to the U.S.'s term to participate in the exercise, most other nations would be sitting with their mouths open at how we bring to bear the technology with the actual soldier on the ground. And then, once we make a move, we feed it into the simulator to see the results and the U.S. would win every time. Convincingly.

That's the difference between ALL simulation and actual physical/SIM's on the ground. The U.S. could take on EVERY country in the world in a conventional battle....

And win.

Taking on China on it's own. It wouldnt last six months.

Now the will to win and to do what it TAKES to win, that's another story.

LOL... 19 years in Afghanistan sez different....

It's funny watching liberal armchair people say stuff like this.

From the link

For the first time since Portuguese traders reached the Chinese coast five centuries ago, China has the military power to dominate the seas off its coast. Conflict between China and the United States in these waters would be destructive and bloody, particularly a clash over Taiwan, according to serving and retired senior American officers. And despite decades of unrivaled power since the end of the Cold War, there would be no guarantee America would prevail.

"The U.S. could lose," said Gary Roughead, co-chair of a bipartisan review of the Trump administration's defense strategy published in November. "We really are at a significant inflection point in history."

Roughead is no armchair theorist: A retired admiral, as former Chief of Naval Operations he held the top job in the U.S. Navy until 2011. His alarm reflects a growing view across the American defense establishment. In their report, he and his colleagues issued a dire warning. The United States faces a "national security crisis," principally arising from growing Chinese and Russian military power. "U.S. military superiority is no longer assured and the implications for American interests and American security are severe," the panel concluded.

Maybe time to get a new simulator?

How funny...people still view China like the old USSR.

Truth is China consists of 34 provinces. Almost like 34 different countries where they speak different dialects of Mandarin. All 34 provinces are forced into unified political system via placement of the PRA in each of the provinces.

Should part or all of the PRA be removed for conflicts outside the provinces, there would be a strong possibility of that province breaking away from the PRC.

There is great hatred and jealousy among the provinces. A few are very rich and get all the goodies. Many more are dirt poor and offer little more than agricultural products all of which are rigidly controlled by the central communist party.

Move enough of the PRA outside of these poorer provinces and China will come apart like a zipper.

Or "libruls" screwed it up by taking the hearts and minds strategy while you think you should have simply had no RoE and shot anybody who came across your sights?

They don't take the hearts and minds strategy....

you should have simply had no RoE and shot anybody who came across your sights?

Look at Libya, Syria, everywhere Obama and Hillary went the last thing they thought about was "hearts and minds". That is exactly what they did.....

Bush (which i was against) going into Iraq and staying, was all "hearts and minds" .. and "liburls" crucified him for it.

Fascinating mirror you built there JPW.

The myth of American Invulnerability. It's necessary to have that in the ranks. Keeps the moral up.

China is coming hard and fast and they outnumber us as a nation around 4:1. But Tremain is also ignorant if he thinks Russian and French equipment is superior in general or China isn't integrating technology stolen from the US. A few things Russian and French are better in some ways most are not better. The thing is both Russia and China are developing new weapons hard and fast to counter our strengths. They know that presently we dominate them in tech but the present is only a flickering moment in time. And let's be honest Pakistan is a joke in comparison to China and India when it comes to capacity to develop new weapons (and they produce a fraction of the people necessary to develop them).

Remember the Chinese have been stealing our tech for decades now and that includes military. How many Chinese have been caught trying to get US Secrets out of the country? Now consider how many were not caught or caught after the fact. Chinese are also buying up American Manufacturing left and right. Even though they are not supposed to export our tech when they do so you would be ignorant to think they don't - it is the main reason they are doing it. Heck even the US manufacturers operating in China are willingly giving it away - it is a prerequisite of doing business there. Legally they shouldn't be but they do.

Then look at all the education of Chinese we have been doing and continue to do IN the USA. Then consider the Universities that have established campuses in China. Those students and grads often go to work for top scientific organizations and military contractors. Then consider how many STEM grads China has compared to the US. When you look at those Graduate numbers in the US - ask yourself how many of them are foreigners who will be going back home too. It is willful ignorance and pride interfering with reality.

"No longer assured" when was it ever post WWII? In Korea when the Chinese poured over the border the only remaining options were nuke 'em or throw in the towel.

#21 | Posted by bayviking at 2019-04-24 12:08 PM | Reply

This is apples and oranges. A pitched battle with China wouldn't be the US playing an away game. It would be the US, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, et al..

33% of global commerce passes through the South China Sea. You think the rest of the world would stand by and watch fascist China muck it up?

I never said that.

Lie much?

Pakistan is a joke in comparison to China and India when it comes to capacity to develop new weapons (and they produce a fraction of the people necessary to develop them).

LOL... no ... it's the opposite.

Pakistan is no match to China, true. But India????

India lost so badly when all their planes got shot down on Feb 27, March 4 and March 15, because they depended on planes they bought while Pakistan used planes it makes.

India doesn't even have land attack cruise missiles. Pakistan makes their own.

India doesn't have MIRV nukes. Pakistan makes it's own (Ababeel missiles).

But hey, whatever floats your boat.

the Chinese have been stealing our tech for decades now

They would like to take a look at everything for sure... but has American tech done them any good?

I don't think so.

As I said many of their weapons can trace their lineage to French and Russian systems. But that doesn't mean they copied those just like that. They actually got the basics and then vastly improved those based on their own research.

For example the Chinese backbone fighter... the J-11.. is based on a Russian Flanker.. on the outside. Inside however, it's a completely different story. All the Russian electronics were tossed out and replaced with superior systems.

In fact the Chinese J-11D can do stuff the Russian "Super Flanker" can't.

And your ignorance shines on or your trolling - whichever.

I am 100% going to agree much of our Rocket and Aviation advancement came as a result of German Scientists (I am sure including actual Nazis) working with Americans. Keep in mind the Americans came up with the A-bomb first all on their own. Then there were planes like the SR-71...

Certainly air frames are adapted by other countries. The Su-27 was a magnificent plane in its day but the air frame is outdated even with new electronics much like the F-15 and even older F-16 - but they were both great planes for the 70s/80s... Electronics in all these weapons of war could stand to be updated every couple years just because of how fast they are advancing. New electronics and all it is still not even a match for an F-22...

And yes the Chinese steal everything and not just from the Americans. Don't be a fool. Corporate espionage is hugely important to them.

I have been ignorant about WHAT?

Nothing that I can see.

Trolling? Well.. maybe but it's far less than your trolling. LOL

Keep in mind the Americans came up with the A-bomb first all on their own.

Don't be stupid. Most of the key scientists came from Europe. Fermi (Italian) made the reactor. Szilard conceived the idea of the chain reaction. And then there was Einstein himself without whose physics, none of that would have been possible.

What absolute nonsense are you talking? LOL

not even a match for an F-22

You don't get it.

Is the F-22 (for example) a better plane than anything the Chinese are flying?

OF COURSE IT IS!

Will it win a war against China?

HELL NO.

Here is why.... in the Vietnam, the M-16 was the superior gun. Far more technically advanced.

The Kalashnikov was crude in comparison.

But the Kalashnikov won.

Get it?

Over engineered weapons like the F-22 are no good when each F-22 will be surrounded by 20 Flankers.

The best is not always THE BEST.

Same with much US military tech.

China to offer 20,000 scholarships to Pakistan Students. Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing said that Prime Minister Imran Khan's upcoming visit to China will provide an opportunity to both the countries to further explore their bilateral cooperation. He said Belt and Road Forum session is being held in Beijing from April 25 to 27, in which Prime Minister Imran Khan will make a special address.

"On April 27, Imran Khan will meet Chinese Vice President", he said and added that both the countries are set to begin the second phase of Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Recalling the China's commitment to help Pakistan in every sector, the envoy said China was willing to build another economic zone in Dhabeji.

The Chinese Ambassador said there is complete understanding between Pakistan and China that the CPEC is fruitful for both the countries. Last week, the Chinese ambassador had said Pakistan and China are entering a ‘new stage of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)' under which the areas of cooperation would be expanded. Ambassador Jing had said that both countries had agreed to involve other countries in the mega-project, adding that all countries are welcome to join the development of Pakistan's economy.

Combat with another uniformed force, in this media age, with the Geneva conventions. Would have to be hard and fast. I couldn't imagine any amphibious landings on any mainlands, rather I imagine it would all take place on outer territories, proxy states, or strategic strikes from the sea.
