Buttigieg or Warren win. A new Emerson Poll found that some supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary would prefer Donald Trump in the general election to some of Sanders's primary opponents. The poll also found that 21% of Sanders supporters said they would vote for Trump in the general election if Buttigieg won the primary, 26% said they would vote for Trump if Warren won the primary, 18% said they would vote for Trump if O'Rourke won the primary, and 17% said they would vote for Trump if Harris won the primary. Oddly, 5% of Sanders supporters said they would vote for Trump if Sanders won the primary.

I get why Sanders supporters wouldn't vote for Buttigieg but not Warren. I also don't get why some of them will vote for Trump if Bernie wins unless they are really Trump supporters who are pretending to be Bernie supports since Trump has no real primary competition.

MFA:

On the other hand, all of Buttigieg's supporters said they would vote for Sanders if he won the primary, and almost all of Warren's (94%), Harris's (98%), and O'Rourke's (91%) said the same.

The poll found several other interesting facts about the candidates' supporters.

It makes no sense to vote for someone who couldn't be further away from Bernie's policies than any Democrat. Is it just for spite?

that just means at least 5% of those polled couldn't wrap their feeble arms around the questions.

I believe that they just won't vote, because like last time, they will have gotten hosed by the DNC, or they will vote for Starman from Starbucks.

I think it's safe to say there's a lot of BS with this poll.

most Sanders supporters are smart people and not like Sheeple and will support whoever the Dems nominate
If it is Sanders or someone else

You don't think one in 20 will turn spiteful if Bernie doesn't win the Democratic nomination?

For all we know, and as ClownShack keeps saying, that's how Trump won.

When Obama got elected to run as a Dem candidate more Hillary clinton supporters chose to vote for John McCain than Bernie Sanders supporters who voted for Trump.

remember the PUMA which stood for Party Unity My ---

Which was a group of Hillary Clinton supporters who switched from being Dems to Repubs when Obama got elected

How so? If you chief concern is wage growth to close the equity gap, then Trump and Bernie are pretty aligned. They both want to stop illegal immigration because they know it destroys the wage structure at the low end. Further, Trump's trade policies and protection of industries also aligns with Bernie. On war/foreign intervention - they are also aligned.

Bernie supporters that don't fear working are basically Trump supporters.

The mechanics of this poll, spelled out in the comments at the end of the article, suggest the poll is biased crap.
