Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, April 17, 2019

Bret Easton Ellis, the author of American Psycho (1991) and (Imperial Bedrooms, 2010, etc.) will not endear himself to those who are politically left-leaning with his latest effort, "White".

Repeatedly, he assails liberals for failing to accept the election of Donald Trump -- and for helping to make everyone hysterical about having to see, read, and think about things we don't agree with. The left, he writes near the end, has become "a rage machine" and "spoiled children." Ultimately, his principal interest is in the fractured American culture, political and otherwise.

He rails against college students who demand "trigger warnings"; blasts the traditional media; tells stories about the excessive reactions to his tweets; and celebrates some current cultural outcasts, including Charlie Sheen, Roseanne Barr, and Kanye West. Well-written pieces bubbling with attitude and self-confidence but, at times, as judgmental as those Ellis condemns.

From another review:

Now middle-aged, the enfant terrible novelist Bret Easton Ellis, has turned to nonfiction to mock the "childlike fascism" and "demented narcissism" of American liberals that helped put President Trump in the White House and left them facing "mental and emotional collapse."

For good measure, Ellis, 55, also denounces the "legacy media" in his new book "White" -- originally due to be called "White Privileged Male" -- describing it as "a moral disaster for the country" that had covered Trump in the 2016 with such bias and "absolute cluelessness" that it assisted him.

Already facing a backlash from the liberal intelligentsia he disdains -- a Q&A with the New Yorker was intensely hostile -- Ellis has also been praised for his devil-may-care contrarianism. Interview Magazine described "White" as containing "searing points about how the national obsession with being liked at all costs and the silencing of opposing voices under the banner of inclusivity can create its own American hellscape."

Just a guess, but I have a feeling that this won't hit the NYT Bestseller list no matter how many copies he sells.

Christian Bale was really good in American Psycho.
If he wasn't in it I don't know that I would have watched the whole thing.
I don't know anything else Ellis has done other than reading about it in his bio.

Ellis seems to get a lot of love from Matt Drudge, but he's just picking up pieces other outlets did. Why are his opinions of such interest to media outlets even when he doesn't have a book coming out.

Whether you consider this a deflection or a reality check

Many didn't consider either Obama or BushJr their President.

I'm not sure if it's because Jr's win was in question and Obama was a secret Kenyan Muslim, or if it has always been this way.

Good post, I think it is a combination of all three, there will always be people who refuse to accept results that they find personally abhorrent.

#10 The difference is that liberals have never nominated someone that openly says they will refuse the results if they lose.

Americans in general act like spoiled children...because they are.

It's been a long time since any sizeable population endured real hardship in this country.
