Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Golden State is living up to its nickname, with California ranking as the most innovative economy in America. That's according to Bloomberg's newest U.S. State Innovation Index based on six equally-weighted metrics: research and development intensity, productivity, clusters of companies in technology, "STEM" jobs, populous with degrees in science and engineering disciplines, and patent activity.

Blue states leading the way...

CA
MA
WA
CT
MD
DE
OR
NH
NJ

Then you look at what states are finishing last

MS
WV
AR
LA
AL
KY
OK
SD
ND

All them red states that don't need no fancy learning.

Consequently they lead the nation in poverty as well.

They have been voting red for decades and still rank near the bottom in income, health, education and life expectancy.

Conservatism is a mental illness.

I bet they are great at Rollin Coal though.

Since they can literally go anywhere; clearly homelessness and feces in SF is still preferable than living in some economic and social -------- like mississippi.

Just another democratic news piece you can't trust. I always look at who is running the show (CEO). It usually is telling about the type of news being published...

Blue Biased much? Ya think?

Bloomberg announced that he would not run as a third party candidate in the 2016 U.S. presidential election despite widespread speculation that he would, and later endorsed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for president. In October 2018, Bloomberg announced that he had changed his political party affiliation to Democratic.

So I should have added this... I read a lot of Bloomberg but I don't ever recall seeing a article about white (and Black) mass immigration out of California.

In fact this article mentions jobs but not who is filling them. Nothing about H1B's or Non-citizen Asians and Indians moving into California verses white and black movement away from this fece's encrusted democratic paradise on Earth.

"STEM" jobs

I guess you liberals assume these jobs are held by Liberals

Well they typically require at least a four-year degree so... yeah, Asian liberals.

Asian-Americans make up half of the Bay Area's technology workforce, and their double-digit employment gains came from jobs lost among white tech workers, according to an analysis by this newspaper of Census Bureau data released Thursday.

The dramatic shift in the changing composition of the high-tech workforce represents a new generation of homegrown and imported workers drilled in science, technology, engineering and math studies. But the shift in workplace demographics -- at least among tech companies -- fails to reflect the gains of California's Hispanic and Latino population, which lost ground in tech jobs along with African-Americans .

Why so much right wing hatred of California? Be happy for us. We love it. And you don't have to live here if you don't want to. Don't be so petty.

Yeah.

Progressives don't do STEM. They do Liberal Arts. It's a much easier way to appear highly educated without having to do any work.

Scientists tend to lean more progressive. I read a comment on a blog recently explaining why this was:

"In engineering for 36 years and I never knew a liberal engineer. Engineers deal in reality and companies don't put up with fantasies.

We need scientists, but I could never be one. Engineers are conservative because they HAVE to make things work. Otherwise a plane crashes, or a bridge fails or a building falls over. Scientists are like weathermen - if wrong .... so what? Just redo what you wrote and start over."

@#10 ... ust another democratic news piece you can't trust. ...

So, you apparently are unable to find anything wrong with the survey's methodology, so you are lowered to trying to blemish the CEO of the company that did the survey because of whom he endorsed in an election.

With that are you admitting that you would not believe any survey unless it was done by a Republican entity?

Engineers are conservative because they HAVE to make things work. ~ MadBomber

This used to be true ... Today you don't make things work, you make them get along as best you can, protocols APIs, languages, are in constant flux.

More stuff kinda works, than actually works old school engineering.

Today companies just stay are release 0.X. No one cares if it crashes any more. Its really sad.

Otherwise a plane crashes, or a bridge fails or a building falls over

No one cares ... look at the Boeing situation, bridge collapse in FL. The cost & problems of the BayBridge.

populous with degrees in science and engineering disciplines, and patent activity.

Because it's a good story of how a great state is in decline.

If you're working there as a degreed professional in STEM it's probably pretty damn good. Here in New Mexico, however, we get a whole bunch of the middle class/working class Californians moving here. A lot of middle class Hispanics and "old hippies". It's very affordable to be a laid back hippie here. The white-collar California professionals don't move here until after they retire. They'll sell their nice little home in California and move here and build a palace and play golf for the rest of their days.

Are you being serious?

Math is not a liberal art by any stretch...in fact much of the appeal of a liberal arts degree is that it isn't difficult.

If you go to one of the service academies, regardless of what you major in, you always come out with a BS because you're forced to take advanced math classes in order to graduate.

And while you could argue that social sciences are definitely within the realm of liberal arts, they're soft sciences, and rarely are there any right or wrong answers.

"Sure, because it says right in Marx "make a big pile of skulls!"

It's an implied task. Bolshevism was only able to survive on the bones of Kulaks who fed the Soviet experiment.

"Science is inherently progressive."

Science is inherently objective. Progressives tend to be nearly as objective as conservatives.

#41 | Posted by madbomber at 2019-04-18 09:29 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

#41 - Science is most defiantly objective. But currently in the united states one political ideology tends to be at odds with many current scientific consensus. Care to guess what political ideology that is.

On a side note, I happen to be a chemist working in the pharmaceutical industry for the last 20 years. My experience is that the vast number of people in the pharma world with "STEM" degrees/jobs lean liberal.
