Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Arctic region has been pushed into an entirely new climate, one that's outside the experience of longtime residents and native wildlife, shows a new report in the journal Environmental Research Letters.

The research indicates that the effects include: increased delivery of organic matter and nutrients to Arctic near‐coastal zones; condensed flowering and pollination plant species periods; timing mismatch between plant flowering and pollinators; increased plant vulnerability to insect disturbance; increased shrub biomass; increased ignition of wildfires; increased growing season CO2 uptake, with counterbalancing increases in shoulder season and winter CO2 emissions; increased carbon cycling, regulated by local hydrology and permafrost thaw; conversion between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems; and shifting animal distribution and demographics. The Arctic biophysical system is now clearly trending away from its 20th Century state and into an unprecedented state, with implications not only within but beyond the Arctic. Their Senators continue to claim it's not happening.

Probably because the Senators really represent the energy industry, not the people of Alaska.

(just a guess)

Global warming is changing the climate in Alaska and that is all you are concerned about? What a dunce.

Doubt many people do. The fake History channel stopped showing history decades ago. It now puts stuff like Ice Road Truckers on endless loop. Probably costs them pennies, and thus doesn't need any viewers, as long as it's part of a cable package.

Complaining about what's on tv? Could you be any more ancient? Ask the nurse for the remote Nulli, it's gonna be ok.

Nulli has a point. The history Channel isn't what it used to be.

"It doesn't appear to be a one-off if you do the stats," Snider says. A new Arctic has emerged during the past 40 years, and Alaska is experiencing that firsthand.

The PDO is a 30 year cycle, and understand the P - is Pacific, the largest body of water.

Perhaps they should understand its affects before worrying about such a small time scale, jumping up and down and yelling fire.

I wonder what Sarah Palin has to say about this?

She can see snow from her house.

Do you really think they don't? The greenhouse effect was discovered in 1823. I think it's pretty well understood by now.

I lived up there for 14 years and personally saw at least 3 glaciers noticeably recede from view when I stood on the roof of my house. that was a decade ago. Trust me...when year after year they have to ship in the snow to the official start of the Iditarod... you know there is a problem.

Go tell that to your friends sprawled out on the fainting couches down at the border. You love you a good ghost story over reality.

Liar again.

The last 6 years have been the warmest on record even given the PDO. Ironically, the PDO hasn't even been its highest in the last several years. And the PDO was essentially neutral in 2018.

The PDO stopped doing 30 year or even 10 year cycles in 1998. It's essentially broken down.

So no, it's not possible for the PDO to cause this.
