Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo during an interview with Jake Tapper: "I came on to talk with you today about an enormously important decision that helped keep Americans safe. Outside the threat that our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines, who have protected America for years, are now, because of the policies of the Trump administration undertaken, no longer are threatened by a rogue court, the International Criminal Court."

The International Criminal Court's decision not to authorize an investigation into crimes committed in Afghanistan under international law marks a shocking abandonment of victims and will further weaken the court's credibility, Amnesty International said today.

The ICC's decision comes just days after the United States, which had already issued threats to the court, revoked the chief prosecutor's visa because the investigation involved crimes committed by USA forces.

"Afghanistan has been witness to heinous crimes committed with near-absolute impunity, across the country, for more than a decade and a half. The ICC's decision today is a shocking abandonment of the victims which will weaken the court's already questionable credibility," said Biraj Patnaik, South Asia Director at Amnesty International.

The ICC judges claimed that their decision was influenced by the prospect of investigators having to deal with challenging investigations, a lack of ready state cooperation and budgetary constraints.

Funny, I'm sure there are plenty of places out there who think we're a rogue, arrogant country as we bomb the s--- out of them.

Isn't this the sort of position that would be taken by your run-of-the-mill despot? Trump is trying so hard to win a his place in the league of dictators he has been courting since taking office. This is just one more step on that path.

Criminals usually don't like police.

If you're convicted by the ICC and sentenced is carried out; how do they enforce it?

What I'm really wondering is, can a US soldier be cleared through a court martial under the UCMJ and still be convicted by the ICC?

I don't understand how their jurisdiction works.

Which makes the International Court's author, the USA, a rogue nation. There will be no accountability until the balance of power in the world shifts, which is bound to happen eventually.

The ICC is just as unbiased as the UN....

Pompeo has no vision.

It's only rogue to those who act roguely.

Pompeo has the same visions as Hitler, which pleased Trump to no end.

Please stop the Hitler comparisons, Viking.

Doing so diminishes the horror that was the Holocaust.

You are doing the same as Nazis (world domination), just a different methodology.

Same methodology, different target, immigrant refugees instead of jews. Their common enemies are liberals, socialism and the LGBQ community. Bolton, Pompeo and Trump are cynical Evangelical crusaders hell bent on global domination by force, not winning hearts and minds through better ideas or humanitarian development.

And what is waiting for them in Mexico besides the constant reminders about returning to the US.

When immigrants start being put in ovens or killed systematically, then you may have a point.

Otherwise, STFU..

Stupid comparison and you should be put on vacation for even saying it.

The more I read about the ICC the more concerns/questions I have about jurisdiction.

What would've been the ICC legal analysis and decision of Harry Truman "dropping the bomb" or the allied fire bombing of Dresden?

The ICC is only good when it looks at the crimes committed by our enemies.

#13, immigrants are put in cages and dying in US custody, but not systematically, mostly random children due to incompetence and indifference.

#13, separation of children and parents has been systematic.
