Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, April 12, 2019

Recently, the House of Representatives passed the most significant democracy reform bill in generations: The For The People Act (HR 1). This omnibus bill tackles virtually all aspects of our broken democracy, from the corrosive influence of money in politics to out-of-control gerrymandering to widespread voter suppression, with practical, proven-to-work solutions such as public financing of elections, automatic and same-day voter registration, and independent redistricting commissions. True to form, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put a damper on the historic occasion by pledging to kill HR 1. His rationale is terrifying: "Because I get to decide what we vote on," he explained.

One day I'll wake up and the sun will seem a little bit brighter, the birds chirping will sound a little bit happier and my neighbor's smile will seem a little bit bigger.

And I'll open the DR and see in big block letters "McConnell Dies" and I'll realize a seriously evil, terrible person is burning in hell and all will make sense.

The Swamp is a lot smellier since the Dotard moved into the WH and the rotten bottom of the GOP barrel exposed.

Some of the posters here claim to support McConnell, how do they live with themselves? He is an evil human being and there is just no argument about it. I sincerely wish for Karma to catch that piece of crap. But then, the entire Republican party deserves it just as much and I do hope it finds them.

From what I've seen, oftentimes when Congress gives a bill a nice-sounding name the bill actually does the opposite of what it's purported to do.

#6, Yes, JJ, no better example than the Republican "Patriot Act" a sinister change in the way American citizens can be treated, but in a selective manner, depending on your religion and net worth.

It is flat out wrong to suggest that Democrats had such sinister intentions when they sought to level the playing field against the ruling 1% with this bill. McConnell is nestled firmly in the 1% camp and has no intention of giving 99% of America anything.

Why won't you vote for your own best interests or are you just another lying greed meister from the 1%?
