Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Between the prom proposals and long lines for photographs, Beto O'Rourke had all the hallmarks of a top-tier candidate during his latest swing through Iowa. Yet by the time he left the state on Sunday, it was also clear that the euphoria that greeted O'Rourke's entry into the race three weeks earlier has started to subside and O'Rourke has not yet drawn the wave of national adulation from the left that his Senate run against Ted Cruz last year received.

It will be interesting to see how he reacts to not being the center of attention, especially since Mayor Pete is stealing most of his thunder right now.

I am guessing it is because he is an empty suit that often had voted for repubs bills and will not back medicare for all.

Mayor Pete is better on the issues compared to Beto but he is also wishy-washy on medicare for all.

But I would by far rather have Mayor Pete as a Dem candidate for President then Beto.

But Bernie Sanders is far better than Mayor Pete on the issues

Bernie is the defacto leader of the Left.
BLOTUS will get reelected, while the New Left takes over... and the Bloated Repubs will go all. 🖕Trump.

in reality, Trump will lose in the greatest landslide loss in US history...to whomever.

(i've to stop this multiposts crap.)
there should be no Presidential debates with Trump, once the Dem nomination is over. that's it. clam it up, no debates with trump-the-insult-chump. there's nothing to be gained. period.

That's the same attitude that got him elected the first time.

Difference is now we have 26 months worth of his "leadership" behind us.

We know his 30% base won't budge. They're too stupid to know they're walking like Walkers to their own self-made demise.

The key is whether the Dems will pull their usual snatch defeat from the jaws of victory routine by doing everything in their power to alienate those who in the center in a bid to pull off another 2018.

His problem is that he's a straight white male.

Mayor Pete is gay. That gives him a huge advantage with the identity-politics obsessed left.

His problem is that he's a straight white male.

His problem is he's a Texas Democrat, which makes him a conservatives in most blue states.

He confused liberals eagerness to replace Ted Cruz with an invitation to run for president.

Mayor Pete is gay. That gives him a huge advantage with the identity-politics obsessed left.

Being gay won't help him.

His intelligence and being a vet will.

The only person playing identity politics here, is you.

There would be no faster way for the right to paint Democrats as timid.

He probably still has $4-5 million to spend traveling before calling it quits.

As much as I want that to be true, and as much as it should be true, I simply don't have enough faith in Americans to make it happen.

And there should be debates with Trump, but only if the opposing candidate is willing to mock and ridicule him openly for how stupid he is.

History suggests it WON'T happen, especially if the Left puts up someone like Joe Biden (or Hillary in 2016).

The next in line candidate WILL lose, especially with an incumbent in the WH.

I'm right there with you. Bernie would fight the elites more. But i think pete has a better chance of winning. It's a tough call.

Either way, beto is a waste of space.

It will help him among gays and millenials, who weren't going to vote for trump anyway.

It will hurt him in red states that dont vote for dems anyway.

Where it will help him most is in people who like to root for an underdog. And there are a lot of those in america, and they're on both sides of the aisle.

Are you kidding? Buttigieg has zero charisma and very little energy. He's certainly smart and has a lot of good things to say, and i think he'd be a fine president. But i have concerns about his ability to get people enthused enough to both give him money and go out and vote.

You might think Beto is an empty suit slinging platitudes a la Obama, but guess what? Obama won 2 elections. We need to get rid of Trump yesterday.

More reliable than simply using your imagination.

If democrats had noticed and taken into consideration the countrywide hatred and mistrust of hillary, perhaps they wouldnt have nominated her.

#25 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2019-04-09 06:25 PM | Reply

Yeah, no way Democrats nominate the most accomplished female Democrat ever. Definitely go with the disheveled, lazy communist that's only a Democrat when convenient. What the hell were they thinking?

I disagree strongly that Pete would be unable to generate enthusiasm. He is the first candidate to get me actually excited of any Democrat hopeful so far. What he as going for him is a appearing to really be earnest, and his calm and polite demeanor. These two items are the strongest weapon against trump, and Pete demonstrates them more than all but a few politicians. Far more than any one else in the field.

#30 | Posted by Ottodog at 2019-04-10 11:15 AM | Reply

#30 I like him for those reasons too, but i don't think that's what the mainstream gets excited about.

#31 | Posted by JOE at 2019-04-10 11:28 AM | Reply

If I'm hearing this correctly, the 2 people currently most likely to take the Democratic nomination for president are candidate-not-a-Democrat or candidate-not-a-candidate?
Says a lot about the field.
