Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, March 25, 2019

From what seemed a position of strength, or at least the ability to stay on offense, Democrats are now looking at the road ahead in a far more problematic position. The issue of impeachment was always in question, given House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's cautionary view. At this point, like collusion, it is off the table.

Beyond that are difficult questions about what investigations House Democrats should pursue and to what end. For nearly 2 years, Democrats have eagerly awaited the Mueller report, having already connected many of the dots of contacts between Trump associates and the Russians. Democrats must now reckon with a far different set of political realities: [I]s the absence of a conclusion or recommendation about obstruction a gift for the Democrats or a trap?

Democrats put their faith in Mueller. Now they are questioning how and why he did what he did. After 2 years of insisting that there was collusion, the Democrats have been undermined by Mueller taking it off the table.

Good analysis by Dan Balz, and I didn't have the room to add this statement by him:

"I've been thinking that Barr's statement that Mueller didn't "exonerate" Trump on obstruction of justice is a trap for Democrats. They really ought to be careful -- but they won't all be careful -- about making new statements that will look bad when we get the actual text from Mueller."

I guarantee some Dem Congressperson will walk into this buzz saw more than once in the next couple of weeks.

The funniest thing is that if Dan Balz, who has been been the de facto leader of The Resistance at WashPo, had even moderately tried to put the latest spin on this analysis, the Useful Idiots on the DR Left would have inundated this thread with hundreds of comments commending him for his usual brilliance.

But since he is discussing an unfortunate truth...nothing.

Kudos to Rsty for having the cojones to even venture a comment on this thread, BTW.
