It started with a traveler from Israel, where measles has been raging for months, making nearly 3,000 people sick and killing at least two people. The person went to New York, where yet another outbreak is under way. And then they visited the Detroit area.

I wouldn't care if anti-vaccers were eliminating themselves but the problem is they are affecting their innocent children and unrelated others.

Unfortunately we, as a country, are so beholden to religious nutjobbery that we allow a person's preferred stone age goat herder's myths to put people at risk.

On multiple fronts.

Personally, I think that enclaves like these in NY need to be cut loose. If they're so disdainful of our society to continue to act in ways that spread disease then they should be granted their wish to be separate. No more public utility access. No more benefits or welfare access. Give them the seclusion they so desire.

One traveler, small epidemic. Hundreds of thousands from countries with no or minimal medical care bringing illnesses that we used to have some control over. Like TB. What is going to be the consequences of letting in about 700 thousand.

I think we need to ban all travel from Israel until we can figure out what is going on.

It wasn't the Israel's fault. It was the measles' fault. That virus must be anti-semitic.

Sorry to inform you TB never went away in this country like Measles and other PREVENTABLE diseases. It's a bacterial infection that there is no vaccination for. Antibiotic resistant TB is and has been here and is a result of the abuse of antibiotics.

#6 | Posted by GalaxiePete Let us not say anything about why there are so many drug resistant bugs out there. People not going through an entire course of antibiotic treatment. That happens a lot down in third word countries. They buy as much as they can afford, usually not enough.

You have a citation that supports your claim that third-world countries are the main contributors to antibiotic resistance? Because other factors that contribute are overprescription of antibiotics as well as overuse of antibiotics with fish and livestock. Which tend to be "first-world" problems.

#7 actually the largest contributor to resistant bugs is the stuffing of livestock grown in tight quarters with antibiotics to keep them "healthy" and make them weigh more.

Sorry to disturb your third world bigotry.

"Hundreds of thousands from countries with no or minimal medical care bringing illnesses that we used to have some control over."

We have twenty million uninsured in America.

How do we have control over uninsured people's diseases, Docnjo?

Your ignorant post is nothing more than anti-immigrant hate speech.

#10 | Posted by snoofy You do realize that anyone who shows up at a hospital ER must receive treatment by law. I assure you that every illegal knows that. Why not look in any ER in Texas, be sure to wear a mask and have plenty of hand sanitizer. I guess Obama care wasn't as effective as reported.

#10 | Posted by snoofy, Actually I have no problem with legal immigration. Illegals have no right to be here. Many would never be allowed in this country because of felony convictions in their home county.

By then they are already infected and spreading the disease.

Not to mention that they are likely to not go to the ER because they can't afford the bill.

Friend of mine drove himself to the hospital during a heart attack because he is too stupid to buy insurance.

Putting other peoples lives at risk because he likes dining out, going to concerts and season tickets instead of buying insurance.

How about the 2 1/2 million walking disease incubators crossing unchecked across our southern border?

I'm sure their vax's are up to date...

Why do all American citizens have to pay the price for Democratic stupidity?

Just look at California... a democratic third world disease haven...and...

if it's not, then why is everyone moving away to other states... ???

Docnjo, you don't support Trump's Muslim travel ban???

I would love to be wrong about this, but I don't believe you.

Whelp, if they're Mexican, there's a higher chance that they're vaccinated than the average American.

Mexico bests U.S. in vaccinations
Mexico has a 96 percent vaccination rate for children ages 1 to 4, compared with an immunization rate of 79 percent for 2-year-olds in the United States.

By addressing Anti Vaxers concerns... to wit...

1) COSTS- cost vary widely from free to as much as $70. How about setting lower fixed costs so that large families can budget for the needed VAX'x? Lets go farther and prevent advertising on media. Prevent companies from raising the prices trying to pay for those multi-million dollar spots on the Superbowl. We did it for cigarettes.

2) FEDERAL VAX SCHEDULE - vaxx skeds vary widely from state to state and locale to locale. We need ONE nationally agreed upon yearly vax schedule. Compliance would be tied to and be part of the Federal Income Tax.

3) FDA INSPECTIONS - Begin rigorous federal inspections just like the Dept of AG inspections on produce and meats. Follow up with the same recall procedures used for Salmonella. Each batch of Vax will include stickers that must be attached to your Federal Income tax schedule.

4) FEDERAL CRIME - to deliberately make or sell a vax that has been contaminated or contains tap water. This occurs more than you know and if caught, criminals usually get 5 years and parole. Make it 20 years and NO Parole. Make Big Pharma CEO's legally responsible. Also bring back criminal and civil liability to drug makers for their products. Make it a federal crime to inject old vax or unapproved or untraceable lot numbers i.e. Counterfeit Vax.

I think this most of what Anti-Vaxxers want.

#15 | Posted by snoofy That wasn't Trumps ban, it was Obama's policy before. There were five countries on the list, all failed states or countries where they were involved in civil conflict. That travel ban did not effect the vast majority of Islamic countries. The problem with countries involved with civil war is it is nearly impossible to vet someone who emerges from that chaos.
