House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings said Thursday his committee has obtained new information that several senior White House officials have used personal email and messaging accounts to conduct government business, asserting that President Donald Trump's son-in-law communicated with foreign leaders through a private messaging application that appears to lack adequate safeguards.

You can't keave a paper trail when you're stealing and using your position for personal gain.

I get the feeling we barely even know a scratch on the surface worth of information of how bad these -------- are.

This probably is not too bad because Mr Kushner would never do something like try to establish a back-channel communications link between him and Russia using Russian comm equipment in a Russian Embassy.

Any one gotta home email server?

@#6

Nice Try.

But that attempted deflection is quite lame in comparison to what may be occurring with Mr Kushner.

"Any one gotta home email server?"

Does the Trump organization's server count?:

Jared Kushner's personal email re-routed to Trump Organization computers amid public scrutiny

President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and daughter Ivanka Trump re-routed their personal email accounts to computers run by the Trump Organization as public scrutiny intensified over their use of private emails to conduct White House business, internet registration records show.

Sorry, the precedence has already been set by Hillary that it doesn't matter. Nothing will happen to them.

@#10 ... Lock 'em up!! ...

I don't know if I'd go that far just yet.

The comparisons to fmr Sec of State Clinton's email server are a stretch, at best.

If that is the best rationale for what Mr Kushner is alleged to have done (e.g., setting up private back-channel comms specifically to talk unmonitored with foreign officials), then I'd proffer that Mr Kushner might have some character-building experiences ahead of him.

Doesn't this call for a months long FBI investigation and multiple congressional hearings?

Righties?

I was being facetious ... ala Trump rally cries.

You're right this is not an analogous situation to Clinton. Previous Sec of States also used private email.

These senior aides work in the WH. This is an obvious attempt at ignoring the law. And after Kushner's attempts to set up a secret back channel to Russia at their embassy, it's difficult to give him, specifically, the benefit of the doubt.

Problem is, if Kushner goes to jail, So should Hillary. We don't have documents on what Kushner was doing like we do Hillary. If Kushner was actually moving documents with "Secret" or "Top Secret" across the top, then you would have an issue.

The "PRECEDENCE" has already been set by your party that this is an unforgivable crime that disqualifies someone from working in the white house and must be punished with jail time.

After Kushner's private e-mail became known, it moved to Trump Org servers

In late September, it changed from outlook.com to mailhost01.trumporg.com. 10/3/2017

Days after recent revelations that Jared Kushner, a presidential advisor and the president's son-in-law, had set up a personal e-mail account to conduct White House business, someone with access to that domain (ijkfamily.com) changed the domain's mail exchange (MX) records so that they now point to a Trump Organization server.

The move, which was first reported by USA Today on Tuesday, provides clear evidence that there is not quite as much separation between the Trump Organization and the Trump White House as previously indicated.

When you work in the White House, you don't throw away a post it note. To be having conversations with a foreign leader via WhatsApp is unthinkable.

You don't throw it away. You rip it in half, toss it on the floor, and if some underlings scurry in and pick something up that you can't see below your bloated gut, well, the tv's not going to watch itself...

Jarvanka's emails/correspondence are all supposed to be preserved per the Presidential Records Act because they work for the president at the WH:

The Presidential Records Act (PRA) of 1978, 44 U.S.C. §§ 2201–2207, is an Act of Congress of the United States governing the official records of Presidents and Vice Presidents created or received after January 20, 1981, and mandating the preservation of all presidential records.

People keep forgetting that the claim by Trump that Hillary's 'basement server' allowed top secret documents to be seen by our enemies, is a big fat LIE!

And while you can argue all you want about the appropriateness of Hillary having a personal server (and there are good points to be made on BOTH sides of this argument), it turns out that there is NO evidence that it was ever successfully hacked, despite Trump asking the Russians to do just that. In fact, one of the reasons given by the Hillary people for why she had that server installed while she was Secretary of State was what she had learned from a former Secretary of State, Collin Powell, that he also used a private email account because, as he has stated, when he was at the State Department the security of government email accounts was so poor that he did this out of concern that he couldn't count on the feds protecting his information. Now I assume that this issue was been addressed since then, but we also have to keep in mind that until Hillary left her office at the State Department, that there still was NO absolute rule preventing federal employees from using non-government provided email accounts. Of course, this all changed once it became known what Hillary had done, which bring us to the irony that while neither Hillary nor Colin Powell violated any laws or rules, anyone in the Trump administration who are now using a non-governmental email account/server WOULD BE BREAKING THE LAW!

Cummings needs to stop beating around the bush and issue a subpoena for the documents that his committee is looking for.

Had you read the law or even the article, you'd know that your statement is untrue. Using a public email account to handle government business is not illegal so long as "the individual forwards the message to the official account within 20 days". Did you not make it that far into the article before you gave up?

#23 I'm sure he'll get there, but it's best to start friendly and build a record of non-compliance.

I think his letter showing non-compliance since 2016 should be sufficient, don't you think?
I read his actual letter earlier, but I don't think that it's linked in that CNN article. It discusses non-compliance beginning at the start of the last Congress.
Maybe he should give them another couple of years to present the documents...

Funny how you manage to make Cummings the subject of discussion and not the scumbags hiding public documents from Congress.

#27 | Posted by JOE at 2019-03-22 02:44 PM | Reply

The whole article is based on Cumming's statements. Funny how I discuss the article. He also has the power to issue a subpoena, a power which I encourage him to make full use of. Admittedly, the attorney who Cummings is using as the basis of his claims refutes that he ever made the claims that Cummings makes, but I'm sure that a decent investigation can clear it right up.

Democrats get caught at doing something really stupid and then try to project that onto Republicans. I'm talking about being racist against blacks and mexicans.
