The top 18 happiest nations in the world use Democratic Socialism to provide for their citizens. Provide national education and healthcare, vacations, safety nets, etc...

All the things conservatives hate. Because they're perfectly happy being miserable with their lives.

"Meik Wiking, CEO of the Copenhagen-based Happiness Research Institute, said the five Nordic countries that reliably rank high in the index 'are doing something right in terms of creating good conditions for good lives,' something newcomers have noticed.

He said the happiness revealed in the survey derives from healthy amounts of both personal freedom and social security that outweigh residents having to pay 'some of the highest taxes in the world.'

'Briefly put, (Nordic countries) are good at converting wealth into well-being,' Wiking said. The finding on the happiness of immigrants 'shows the conditions that we live under matter greatly to our quality of life, that happiness is not only a matter of choice.'

Also of note....

"The United States came in 19th place, dropping one spot since last year and a total of five spots since 2017.

Except for its 10th place ranking for income, the US doesn't rank in the top 10 on measures that make up a happy country in the UN report. They include 12th place for generosity, 37th place for social support, 61st place for freedom and 42nd place for corruption."

Yahoos on the right don't think 'democratic socialism' leads to the happiest people on earth.

My son turned 19 last week. His grandmother asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said "Nothing". That's because me and his mother provide for all his needs while he is in college. His life to him is "Happy". Let him have to provide for himself and go to work for himself and I bet his view changes. Same thing here.

Problem is, what happens when you run out of other people's money to make you "happy"?

I don't know...I already have all of those things, I don't think it would make me happier paying more in taxes so that someone else could have more of them.

You know what's crazy though? Qatar is 29th. Qatar probably resembles your vision of socialism more than any other country in existence. Median household income for Qatari citizens is just under $20k...per month. Virtually all services are provided by the Emir...not that you would need them when you make $240k a year.

If a citizen can't otherwise find employment, the Emir gives him a job. It might not even be a real job. Sitting around, watching TV and smoking, waiting for someone to call on a certain phone. But you get a lot of money for it.

It would seem that Qatar should be the happiest place on earth, given all the free stuff.

The thing is, they're lie bitchy cousins. All the GGC countries are like that in my experience. They claim to hate each other, but the minute another GCC member shows up at the airport, the whole place shuts down until they are able to move through.

"And Qatar doesn't grow any of it's own food."

Actually, they do. There is a huge farm on the south side of the orbital road. They also raise camels, which are eaten locally as well.

My point is, if you are insecure as a nation, you will be lower on the list.

China is 93. It looks like they are not as confident about the future as much as they might pretend to be. I know for a fact they are afraid to death of a naval blockade. This is why they are trying to control the South China Sea. Look up "Malacca Dilemma". It is a strategic nightmare for them.

USA, on the other hand, is surrounded by two oceans. That gives the country a LOT of natural security.

Americans have no idea what "Freedom" means.

or even what Happiness means.

Sorry FFs.

But, it was a No Good Very Bad Terrible Idea to put the "Pursuit of Happiness" along with Life and Liberty as a goal in the Declaration.

Someone must have had some good meds that day.

One does not "pursue" Happiness. Happiness is not Out There to be "pursued". Happiness occurs inside of us and can be completely independent from the Outer World. And really is the goal or purpose of Life to be Happy all the time? Sounds to me like someone in Denial of the Human Condition.

Also, apparently, while we believe in the Pursuit of Happiness, actually Being and staying Happy is pretty much frowned upon in our culture.

Especially if it doesn't make a buck for someone.

Then get rid of your health insurance. Open up your own savings account. And hope that when the days comes. You've saved enough to cover the costs.

Health insurance is literally people putting money in a collective pot so when someone gets hurt/sick/injured they can pull from the pot to pay the bills.

Morons like Nulli have been trained to believe the private sector can do this more efficiently that the government.

What morons like Nulli don't realize is. The majority of the money going to private healthcare providers is being used to pay the CEOs.

Whether it's government healthcare or private healthcare. You're using someone else's money to pay for your medical bills.

Happiness also depends on whether you have a swine running the country.

Last year, Pakistan was 75. This year is jumped to 67. How? (India fell downwards 7 spots, from 133 to 140... thanks to their idiot Prime Minister who is out to destroy their country and might be reelected next month).

Pakistan threw the last Prime Minister in jail. That's all they did.

Uhhh...really?

UnitedHealth Group is the largest provider of health insurance in the US...and their profit margin was 5.2%. Total Revenues were $226B.

If what you said was true, then these dudes would all be showing up as the richest in the world. In reality, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group makes under $2m per year in salary, and about $15m more in various stocks and bonuses. So if you were to remove that CEO reumeration, you would pass on savings of ~$2m, plus whatever percentage of the 5.2% profits he had been entitled to.

Regressive taxes to soak the poor, privatized social security, increasingly privatized higher education that dumps the arts and social sciences in favor of skilled trades, rationed healthcare through private insurance, privatization of previously nationalized industries in many of the countries, school vouchers, very strict immigration laws and rapid deportation of illegals..

If a West Euro "Democratic Socialist" tried to run as a US Democrat, the progressives would string them up.
