Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, March 19, 2019

Several weeks ago, John Boyd's combine broke down. The machine is an absolute necessity for Boyd -- he, like most commodity farmers, uses it to harvest the soybeans, corn, and wheat he grows every year in Baskerville, Virginia. What he really needs is a whole new combine, which would allow him to harvest his crops more efficiently, and which would last him much longer than fixing his current machine or buying a used one. But a new combine would cost him more than $480,000. With his farm income down and equipment prices up, "I haven't been able to buy anything at all," Boyd says.

Well, the goal is to maximize short term share holder profits.

When the extraction of profits from farmers begins to falter those shareholders (ie leeches) will move on to the next host and that portion of the market will contract or collapse.

Welcome to capitalism.

Trump loves farmers. He has said so. Aren't those farmers listening? This is another case where people in the US take Trump literally, but not seriously. Take him seriously, and point out the many flaws in his seat-of-the-pants economic policies. Those policies are indefensible, and calling Trump on what he has DONE (not what he has SAID) should easily lead to his defeat in 2020.

And the Democrats will continue to lose these votes because they will talk to the farmers about LGBTQ people using the bathroom of their choice and how to best spend immigration dollars.

Democrats need better marketing...

"Welcome to capitalism."

How is this Capitalist in any way, shape, or form. This was Trump's way of imposing protectionist (and authoritarian) tarriffs to favor a tiny subset of American industry at the expense of all other.

What Trump did was follow through with an idiotic scheme that progressives have been clamoring about for years. And the results are as predicted. But I'm sure United Steelworkers couldn't be happier.
