Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Gunmen have opened fire at mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, with reports of between nine and 27 people killed. Four people are in custody -- three men and one woman. The Police Commissioner Mike Bush said "there have been some absolute acts of bravery" in the arrests of the four attackers. A number of IEDs that were attached to vehicles in Christchurch have been defused by the Defence Force. Bush said there were multiple casualties - a "significant" amount. "This is absolutely tragic. So many people are affected."

March 15 (Reuters) - Forty people were killed and more than 20 seriously wounded in mass shootings at two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch on Friday, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.
Ardern said New Zealand had been placed on its highest security threat level. She said four people in police custody held extremist views, but had not been on any police watchlists.

Interesting that any white person from New Zealand or Oz would rail on about Islamic slavers. Have he/she/they read the history of their nations? When the US broke free from England that is where they sent the prisoners... instead of dumping them here as they had been doing... giving the smarmiest among them a fresh start by enslaving the native populations.

Of course once they settled in... they bred like rats... just as they did here...

Irony of ironies... they now fear others will do to them... what they did to others... shooting people while they were praying...

I guess their boy Jayzus wasn't working fast enough with his second coming and all.

Christians have this timing thing... if they get it right... they can do what ever trashy thing they want as long as they repent and ask God's forgiveness before they die... if they do... they will go to heaven...

I bet you use that caveat every time you say your bed time prayers.

Blast reported in Auckland, New Zealand

Police are cordoning off Victoria St in central Auckland in a new scare on a day that has left New Zealanders on edge.

Images show an ambulance and police cars at the scene.

Earlier, armed police were at Auckland's Britomart Train Station where a controlled explosion has taken place following the discovery of two abandoned backpacks.

Police were called to a section of Galway St where the backpacks were left unattended.

Members of the public were held back behind cordons while the bomb disposal robot was sent in to get a closer look at them. A controlled explosion was heard soon after.

A police spokesman confirmed armed officers were at the station, which has been blocked off to motorists.

A small cordon has been put in place around the immediate area on Galway St as a precaution.

There is no further information available at this stage.

More to come

Curious.
The link does not have a paywall when googled, but has a paywall when copied.

Here's the first two paragraphs from he link, which gives the gist of the article:

'The suspected 28-year-old white, male Australian terrorist who perpetrated a mass shooting in Christchurch apparently gained access to a range of semi-automatic, high-powered weapons that are banned in Australia.

Australia has some of the strictest gun control policies and most comprehensive regulations in the region and world. New Zealand, by contrast, has some of the most permissive gun policies in the Pacific.'

#61 | Posted by TrueBlue at 2019-03-15 05:57 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

New Zealand, by contrast, has some of the most permissive gun policies in the Pacific.

By my standards, it's still a Nanny State.

From Wiki:

To be issued with a firearms licence, the applicant must be a fit and proper person over the age of 16.

And who is to determine who is "fit and proper"???

The cops (under the law).

Last time I checked, a cop can't tell an -------- from a weewee, how can he/she/they tell if you are "a fit and proper" person? LOL

The cops there obviously thought this Aussie Bastard was a "fit and proper" person.

Anyway, I am waiting for the news that this guy was also some kind of bloody Freemason.

#63 | Posted by J_Tremain at 2019-03-15 06:11 AM | Reply

Police also individually interview the applicant and two referees, one of whom must be a close relative and the other unrelated, to determine the applicant's suitability for a license. The applicant's residence is also visited to check for appropriate storage of firearms and ammunition and to ensure any other people living there are not a security risk. Having criminal associations or a history of domestic violence almost always leads to a licence being refused. An application can be refused if the applicant has indicators of drug or alcohol abuse, criminal associations, a history of domestic violence, or a physical, mental health or disability issue that would prevent them possessing or using a firearm safely.
---------------------

All of the above high and mighty rules and the guy still had guns? LOL

All their rules just proved to be a load of BS, no?

Like I said, I have ZERO respect for the Intelligence services, Security services and fighting abilities of Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Gawd knows what America gets out of these three clowns that they drag them all over the world... like Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

And then America asks "what went wrong???" when they lose.

New Zealand might be a "Nanny State" according to your standards. However, the article only pointed out that Australia is different from New Zealand in this situation. That definitely seems to be true.

BTW, that specific Wiki you cited is plastered with warnings, "citations needed", "speculation", "vague", etc. Doesn't seem to be the best source for evaluating New Zealand's gun laws.

There're haters everywhere in every nation I dont know Australia has unusually large number or not.

In the U.S. we have senator Steven King who is a hard core Racist and of course pres trump, it is hard to say if Australia is more racist than we are.

Of course as a person uhm, er, living in Texas you know this

well whatever PP... all I know is that in my first hand experience 1970 ish it was no longer a requirement for me to cover my head... nit pick all you want... my point is Christians need to own their $#it and the mind poison of easy redemption and eternal life.

You are focused on disproving my premise with an argument about dress code... which is the most trivial part of my discussion... I was comparing it to the hijab.

Go back and argue the important points... where I state that Christians are like spoilt brats... who can trash the place... believing all they need to do for forgiveness is ask God and the get a second chance at life.... forevahhhhhhh. Its all about timing.

The shooter's manifesto sounds like it was lifted straight from a Trump speech:

"We are experiencing an invasion on a level never seen before in history. Millions of people pouring across our borders"

Congratulations Republicans, you elected an ethno-nationalist sympathizer whose words inspire mass murder.

When the attack began on Friday, one anonymous 8chan user remarked: "actually happening. delete this thread now or its gonna be the end of 8pol."

A few minutes later, another said "this sounds fun". "Nice shootin Tex," another commented.

The Facebook livestream of the attack, apparently recorded with a head-mounted camera, began about 1:40pm local time. The attacker plays music as he drives to the mosque, including a British grenadiers march and a Serbian anti-Muslim hate anthem called "Remove Kebab".

And you and everyone who leaped to spread the virus played a part.

Because you revel in the drama. You bathe in the hate. You spread it eagerly. So thoughtlessly. Just as Hate wants you to.

You need to wake up. You are responsible for your words and actions on the internet as well as in the physical world.

What do you think sending "thoughts and prayers" means?

Spreading the virus video of hate to others is a thought and prayer.

What kind of thoughts is that? Not very good thinking and a very sick prayer if you ask me. But you didn't so. Carry on.

"This happened in New Zealand and somehow this is Trump's fault?
TDS is a real thing."

It looks like the gunman was interested in helping to start a race war in the US:

He wrote that he chose firearms for the attack because he believed it would mobilize the "left wing" in the United States to "abolish the second amendment," which would in turn upset the "right wing" and fracture the U.S. "along cultural and racial lines." The ramblings mention Donald Trump (whom he has mixed feelings on), Michael Jackson, pundit Candace Owens, and others. He was inspired by Charleston shooter Dylann Roof and far-right Norwegian killer Anders Breivik. Tarrant wrote that he was seeking revenge for Ebba Akerland, an 11-year-old Swedish girl killed in a terrorist attack in 2017.

The New Zealand massacre suspect praised Trump as "a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose."

Trump has:
1. Advocated banning all Muslims from the U.S.
2. Praised the (fake) story of killing 49 Muslims with pigs blood
3. Proposed creating a registry of all Muslims

The excerpt from the shooter's manifesto in #92 sounds verbatim like something Trump would say.

Good job, Republicans.

Not with this guy, Jeff. He is opposed to both:

The manifesto criticizes declining white birthrates -- "It's the birthrates. It's the birthrates. It's the birthrates." it begins.

"If there is one thing I want you to remember from these writings, its that the birthrates must change. Even if we were to deport all Non-Europeans from our lands tomorrow, the European people would still be spiraling into decay and eventual death."

Mr. Tarrant decries "mass immigration" as "white genocide" and says why he commits the attack.

Having once been part of a newspaper/media, I know fully well how the US govt can manipulate the news.

Yellowcake?

Saddam did 9-11?

Drones of Death?

WMD?

I take it as an article of faith that everything in the US media is a lie unless it cross checks with a foreign source.

Point is, the US has used the media to spread Islamophobia. It does it by it's actions, by it's policies and by it's statements. These can't help but make their way into the news. And then it also deliberately leaks info that might make people hate Muslims.

The US has been doing that for a long time now to protect it's little buddy Isreal.

Non-Muslim White Male. The shooter had everything. Everything. The people he murdered had nothing-- nothing but hope in God's mercy. I hope they receive it.
They were men and women and children and babies who were forced from their countries from the wars that were started by other men who looked like him and sounded like him.

But the killer wants the world to see him and all the others like him as the perpetual victim.

That's "white oppression" in a nutshell.

I was thinking more in terms of it being a problem for Trump, in that, he's got a tiger by the tale and doesn't seem to realize how easily it could turn around and devour him--or more to the point, his family. How does he square the Neo-Nazi marchers chanting "Jews will not replace us" with Jared, Ivanka and his grandchildren's heritage and religious beliefs? Congratulations, you have played directly into his terrorist plot.

From his manifesto, page 10/11:

Why did you choose to use firearms?
I could have chosen any weapons or means. A TATP filled rental van. Household flour, a method of idspersion and an ignition source. A ballpeen hammer and a wooden shield.Gas,fire, vehicular attacks, plane attacks, and any means were available." I had the will and I had the resources.

I chose firearms for the affect it would have on social discourse, the extra media coverage they would provide and the effect it could have on the politics of the United states and thereby the political situation of the world. The US is torn into many factions by its second amendment, along state, social, cultural, and most importantly, racial lines.
With enough pressure the left wing within the United states will seek to abolish the second amendment, and the right wing within the US will see this as an attack on their very freedom and liberty.
This attempted abolishment of rights by the left will result in a dramatic polarization of the people in the United Sates and eventually a fracturing of the US along cultural and racial lines.

I am not an anti-gun radical by any means (I own roughly a dozen firearms) and I don't know about others but I know I have gone pretty far in my posts. I never called anyone a pig. I do believe some firearms should be banned and confiscated. There is no valid reason for AR, AK or other military styled firearms to be owned. I do believe that concealed carry causes far more issues and deaths than it solves and I have even considered getting my own carry permit because of all the idiots with one.

I will say it again - some guns should absolutely go. They should be confiscated if not turned in. Maybe confiscated isn't the right term here. Maybe it should be criminal prosecutions of those that are caught with them illegally like any other felony - oh ya that's confiscation. A year in prison and your AR or just your AR - your choice. I don't recall saying "confiscated at gun point" specifically but that is what this would amount to yes. Maybe we should set up a super in depth licensing process for ownership of such guns unfortunately that would make them really expensive to own.

Let's be honest - we strip the rights of people committing felonies to own guns. Only in 3 states can a felon own a gun and that is after 10 or more years. So constitutionally speaking it would seem there is plenty of legal room to ban gun ownership period. It doesn't give the states the right to ban the ownership of a firearm by anyone but we have done it for a long time... States also regulate firearm possession and ownership. Again the constitution doesn't specifically give them the ability to do that. On and on - to be serious this isn't about State's Rights either otherwise you would have constraints on free speech beyond injurious or libelous speech which we do not. The constitution SPECIFICALLY calls for ownership under a WELL REGULATED MILITIA. To me, that would be the National Guard... I don't know what today's SCOTUS would say and nobody has taken it there but it does not seem clear that ownership is a right in general.

And no, I'm not worried about the "libruhls coming for my guns" I have been hearing about for 15 years or so. Remember Republicans helped put the original bans in place - National Firearms Act, Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. As well as the fact that there were Democrats were against them. You can replace those with Liberals and Conservatives but the whole point is it has been bipartisan both ways. The older I get the more I lean toward making gun ownership harder. I know way too many people who shouldn't reasonably be near a firearm that have concealed carry permits. How many innocent people - children and adults - have to die at the hands of irresponsible or purely criminal "legal" gun owners to make this a discussion worth having?

‘I think Islam hates us': A timeline of Trump's comments about Islam and Muslims

Sept. 17, 2015: At a campaign town hall in New Hampshire, a man in the audience shouted out: "We have a problem in this country; it's called Muslims. We know our current president is one." The man mentioned Muslim "training camps" and asked: "When can we get rid of them?" Trump responded: "We're going to be looking at a lot of different things. You know, a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there. We're going to be looking at that and plenty of other things."

Oct. 21, 2015: On Fox Business, Trump says he would "certainly look at" the idea of closing mosques in the United States.

Nov. 20, 2015: In comments to Yahoo and NBC News, Trump seemed open to the idea of creating a database of all Muslims in the United States. Later, he and his aides would not rule out the idea.

Dec. 7, 2015: Trump's campaign issued a statement saying: "Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." Trump read this statement aloud at a rally in South Carolina.

Dec. 8, 2015: On CNN, Trump quoted a widely debunked poll by an anti-Islam activist organization that claimed that a quarter of the Muslims living in the United States agreed that violence against Americans is justified as part of the global jihad. "We have people out there that want to do great destruction to our country, whether it's 25 percent or 10 percent or 5 percent, it's too much," Trump said.

Dec. 13, 2015: On Fox News, Trump was asked if his ban would apply to a Canadian businessman who is a Muslim. Trump responded: "There's a sickness. They're sick people. There's a sickness going on. There's a group of people that is very sick."

Jan. 12, 2016: At a rally in Iowa, Trump shared his suspicions about Syrian refugees and then read the lyrics to Al Wilson's 1968 song "The Snake," the story of a "tender woman" who nursed a sickly snake back to health but then was attacked by the snake. Trump often read these lyrics at rallies.

Feb. 3, 2016: Trump criticized Obama for visiting a mosque in Baltimore and said on Fox News: "Maybe he feels comfortable there ... There are a lot of places he can go, and he chose a mosque." (It was Obama's first visit to a mosque during his presidency, and it was made in an effort to encourage religious tolerance in light of growing anti-Muslim sentiment.)

March 9, 2016: On CNN, Trump said: "I think Islam hates us. There's something there that -- there's a tremendous hatred there. There's a tremendous hatred. We have to get to the bottom of it. There's an unbelievable hatred of us."

March 22, 2016: Soon after three suicide bombings in Brussels tied to a group of French and Belgian Muslims, Trump told Fox Business: "We're having problems with the Muslims, and we're having problems with Muslims coming into the country." Trump called for surveillance of mosques in the United States, saying: "You have to deal with the mosques, whether we like it or not, I mean, you know, these attacks aren't coming out of -- they're not done by Swedish people."

On NBC News, Trump added: "This all happened because, frankly, there's no assimilation. They are not assimilating ... They want to go by sharia law. They want sharia law. They don't want the laws that we have. They want sharia law."

The Washington Post

I remember the media speculating that OKC was by Islamic Terrorists in the hours after it happened. Turned out wrong.

As for the live streaming - did the officials know that right away? Was it their first concern? Or maybe, just maybe was their concern containing the actors and treating the injured? Maybe they didn't have time to sit down and scour social media and it took time for all the details to actually make it to them. A mass shooting isn't necessarily Terrorism. There is a definition to Terrorism. Although I have issues with the definition... See Officials and the Police are supposed to work off evidence and facts. It takes time to collect and put these in categories. I am sure they work quickly as they can but they do have good reason to not make responsible and informed announcements and not the ill informed proclamations we have become used to with the Dotard in Chief. I am also sure communications were 100% chaotic as this was a crisis with priorities.

1. People in other nations called it terrorism. NZ was the last to call it terrorism.

2. Compare the reaction time to the cops in America we love to hate. In the US, it would have been over in minutes. One phone call and he would lose the freedom to move to another mosque.

3. The definition of terrorism is what we just saw. What happened to India in Kashmir, for example, is not terrorism because the "terrorist" killed SOLDIERS not civilians. And because Kashmir is occupied by India, not a free territory (UN). Also if the taliban kill American troops, that isn't terrorism either. It is a war zone and they are killing SOLDIERS. The IRA was not a terrorist outfit (the Brits would disagree). They took pains to not target civilians.

Are you just being willfully ignorant?
1. So what? They are not responsible for delivering factual information about something happening in another country.

2. You may be right you may NOT be right. Number 1 - NZ is NOT a violent place like the US and Pakistan. They don't have mass shootings - EVER. They don't have a militarized police state. For that matter you don't know that a few patrol cars rolling in would have stopped a well executed plan. I didn't watch this nor do I desire to see this evil unfold.

3. So killing soldiers outside of open warefare isn't terrorism? Seriously? So why is killing civilians terrorism? So the killing of US Marines in Beirut Lebanon wasn't an act of terrorism? The USS Cole? What happened in India Kashmir was certainly terrorism. It isn't a war zone. There were no open hostilities at the time of the attack.

Kashmir has never been resolved in the way the UN wanted it to be. You are correct. BUT some tools in Pakistan decided it would be smart to launch a guerilla assault prior to the decision of which nation to join. They did it to scare the maharaja into joining Pakistan and he asked for Indian help instead because he knew Pakistan was behind it. They agreed if he would acede to join India (which he did) and THAT is why India is in control of most of Kashir - ---- terrorism and greed.

Yet they tag along with the US shooting at Muslims in other countries.

For that matter you don't know that a few patrol cars rolling in would have stopped a well executed plan.

Watch the video and then say that again. The guy was on a picnic. The video is 16 minutes and he is driving wherever the hell he pleases.

I didn't watch this nor do I desire to see this evil unfold.

When *I*.. a Muslim.. have watched it, what is your problem???

So killing soldiers outside of open warefare isn't terrorism?

No.

So why is killing civilians terrorism?

Islamic laws of Jihad. Do not touch civilians. As well as modern laws. You do not touch civilians.

So the killing of US Marines in Beirut Lebanon wasn't an act of terrorism?

It wasn't.

The USS Cole?

THAT was terrorism.

What happened in India Kashmir was certainly terrorism.

Nope.

It isn't a war zone. There were no open hostilities at the time of the attack.

It is a war zone. There are open hostilities between the Kashmiri civilians and the Indians who blind them with shotgun pellets and rape their women and kill them in the streets. It is all documented by the UN. You can get the report online.

A Kashmiri kid blew up Indian soldiers. Meh.

BUT some tools in Pakistan decided it would be smart to launch a guerilla assault prior to the decision of which nation to join. They did it to scare the maharaja into joining Pakistan and he asked for Indian help instead because he knew Pakistan was behind it. Taking video of themselves murdering is very Man Bites Dog. This disturbing trend is similar to the Russian terrorists capturing and torturing gay kids for YouTube.

Oh, and whomever posted that China is about integration - that is total BS, the Han are extremely racist and it's no secret how they treat the indigenous and the Muslim Chinese.

Christchurch experiences some of the nastiest infrastructure damage due to earthquakes. It makes some sense that the perps are foreigners.

Heavily armed NYPD officers are standing guard outside New York's mosques

The NYPD's counterterrorism unit has positioned heavily armed officers outside a number of New York City mosques & religious institutions in response to the New Zealand terror attack, it said on Twitter.

"Please do not be alarmed of the increased presence. We are working closely w/ the community to keep you safe."
On the Brian Lehrer radio show earlier this morning, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke about how the city is increasing security at Mosques at places of worship in light of the New Zealand attacks. He also said there is no credible threat to New York City.

"We are immediately -- the NYPD -- is reinforcing Muslim community centers and mosques. So you'll see a lot of NYPD presence. Of course, folks will be going to pray today. We want them to be supported," he said.

Well a white supremacist POS gunman inspired by Jayzus and Trumplethinskin shoots up a mosque... just because... and J_T is a Muslim... obviously he feels passionate about what has happened.

I can't believe you would ask such a thing.

Better than putting white scrawl on an AK and shooting people in retaliation.

What doesn't make sense to me is how the clown brigade is digging their heels in.

Interesting list. I currently live in D.C. and basically that list is representative of various nationalities the Muslim people I work with, do business with and some I call my friends. They are all moderates and many of them left troubled conditions at home to live in the US... most importantly live where they could be free of extremist situation or influences and have a better life... theoretically NZ was also a place that offered that.

I can't tell you how sad and troubled I feel about what happened there.

It strikes me... for the sake of peace those afraid of Muslims would foster that faction of the population which is as far as I can tell is the majority of them... rather than the "kill them all and let GAWD, God or G-d sort it out" ideology.

That being said... J_T... did you ever see the CBC television show "Little Mosque on the Prairie"? Maybe it was a feeble attempt... but its "feel good" story line was about Muslims assimilating into a small community in the middle of small Canadian community... in the middle of nowhere like most Canadian communities are once you leave the border... anyway it only lasted two seasons I think... and I thought it was a nice attempt to bridge the gap.

Yes. Only the first few shows.

The hijabs put me off and it wasn't terribly funny either.

I don't watch Canadian shows generally... they get touchy feely at some point. I don't do touchy-feely. I am not a hippy.

If you are blaming Trump for a shooting in New Zealand, you have TDS.
#191 | POSTED BY JEFFJ

There is no denying that Trump fans the flames of racism and hate. There is also no denying that the communications of the President of the United States reach and inspire people across the globe due to his/her stature as a western leader. There is also no denying that the shooter parroted Trump's exaggerated anti-immigrant rhetoric virtually verbatim in his manifesto and that he saw Trump as a "symbol of renewed white identity."

Therefore, the only people with any sort of "derangement syndrome" are those who would deny Trump's role in this. That, as always, includes you, Mr. "i didnt vote for Trump but i defend him on literally everything 100% of the time but haha i'm just pointing out hypocrisy or something and i swear i totally didn't vote for Trump."

Strange, last week 30 Christians were slaughtered in Nigeria in a Catholic church, and not a peep from the MSM. Still, world wide 98% of terror attacks are Islamic. China takes Islam seriously enough to put a few hundred thousand Muslims into concentration camps. Not to be impartial, they also put plenty of Christians into prison for not toeing their line.

#248 | Posted by snoofy, Actually if you review my blog- I do not hate Muslims. I despise Islam. One is people, some I got on with well, some I didn't. The other is a "divinely inspired" government. The most tyrannical form of authoritarian rule yet devised. Besides if I wanted to do ill to the Islamic cause, the worse thing I could do is kill a bunch of them indiscriminately. Creating martyrs is counterproductive. Painting them victims is even more counterproductive especially if you supply the paint. Islam is a set of beliefs and ideals, most of which I find false or insane. Note the Islamist can not defend their dogma reasonably, therefore their only recourse is visceral emotionalism.

"Strange, last week 30 Christians were slaughtered..."

Not strange at all.

What is strange is our human desire to kill each other for our imagined beliefs and our myths and made up stories.

What is strange is our continued denial of our Human Condition.

What is strange is that we don't even know why we Humans do what we do.

What is strange is people sitting around wonder why we do and say strange things.

Then continuing to watch and do and say such strange things.

What is strange is how we imagine how important it all is ... so important that we will happily kill each Other. Any Other.

"Islam is a set of beliefs and ideals, most of which I find false or insane. "

Most of Islam is the Five Pillars.
Which ones are false, insane, etc?

www.bbc.co.uk
The Five Pillars consist of:
Shahadah: sincerely reciting the Muslim profession of faith
Salat: performing ritual prayers in the proper way five times each day
Zakat: paying an alms (or charity) tax to benefit the poor and the needy
Sawm: fasting during the month of Ramadan
Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca

Why are they important?
Carrying out these obligations provides the framework of a Muslim's life, and weaves their everyday activities and their beliefs into a single cloth of religious devotion.

No matter how sincerely a person may believe, Islam regards it as pointless to live life without putting that faith into action and practice.

Carrying out the Five Pillars demonstrates that the Muslim is putting their faith first, and not just trying to fit it in around their secular lives.

#251 | Posted by snoofy at 2019-03-17 03:52 PM | Reply

#251 | Posted by snoofy Read the Koran, then get back with me. The five pillars are not listed per say. Plus remember the principal of abrogation, through out. If their is a contradiction in the text, and there are many, the later revelation has president. Hint: the humane, tolerant passages are not the later.

If what you're saying is accurate, then how can it be that there aren't billions of Muslims aren't violent extremists waging Jihad against us?

Do you not know any Muslims or something? They're not hard to find. Take an Uber.
