Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Senate delivered a stunning bipartisan rebuke to Donald Trump on Thursday when 12 Republicans joined Democrats in voting to overturn the president's national emergency declaration. In a 59-41 vote, the Senate approved a House passed-resolution to block Trump from funding his border wall without congressional approval. The GOP revolt will force Trump to issue the first veto of his presidency.

More than I thought would.

Trump will veto it because he fears humiliation and then will attempt to ruin the lives of many people who he sees as being responsible for his mess.

Trump will veto it because he fears his base, fears not being elected again, and fears arrest.

Nope. But now Democrat presidents can declare anything a national emergency. Gun violence? Yep! Opioid addiction? Yep! White Supremacists? Yep!

Hope you like the consequences.

Now Trump can rightfully claim that he did his level best to fulfill his wall promise. We see it, and we VOTE.

Let us all hope and pray he is as stupid as his Followers and doesn't bother to "sign it". Let's hope he gets distracted by some new fat shiny dick-tator and or some well endowed porn star and he doesn't do anything! Wouldn't that be nice?

Send your thoughts and prayers ... Thoughts and prayers people.

Congress just re-asserted its Constitutional right. Good for them.

Doesn't it only take 60 votes to override a veto?

The thing got 59 in the first vote. I originally thought it would be something like 52.

Really? He did his best?

This is the same President who called Obama a failure for not working with Congress.

And even if he gets the money for the wall, he can't build it without Congress. Eminent Domain requires Congress. Oops.

It requires 2/3 of each chamber. So, in the Senate that would be 66.

60 is the threshold for defeating a filibuster.

Are you stupid? Trump has been shouting from the rooftops that he will veto it for weeks. Everyone knows that it will be veto'd.

It doesn't matter because the courts will kill it anyways.

But now we have 12 Republican Senators who have shown themselves as "disloyal" to Trump. His extreme base will try to primary them. But, now there is much less reason to be loyal to him in the future. The only thing he had over them was keeping them on the "good side" of his base. That is gone now.

For them, it will become easier and easier to cross Trump in the future. And it was Trump's mismanagement of the situation that put them in this position in the first place.

That is the problem that bullies have. Once someone stands up to them, the bully loses all of their power over that individual.

Trump didnt do anything for 2 years when he had Congress on his side. The opposition took over and all of a sudden, he starts making demands.

What a clown.

and we did. Unfortunately someone messed up and told him humpy he had to actually veto it.

So now we have a wonderful situation in America where the Congress of the United States, representing the Will of the People, has voted to say that Trump is full of covfefe and there is no National Emergy.

And we have a President of the United States, unable to prove his point or make his case directly to the Peoples House, declaring that he alone can Decide these things...and say that we are in a State of Emergy, no matter the facts, Usurping the expressed Will of Congress, and that he alone he can decide where our taxpayer money is spent. No matter what appropriations law Congress has passed.

Is there an Emrgy? Should I report to the Wall for Doody? Where are the Well Regulated Militias forming up? Where is exactly is this Emergy precisely and how will we know when it is not an Emergy anymore?

So who the frack is in charge here?

Now, unfortunately, Congress has another another very unpleasant task ahead. Lets hope they are up to it.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the next episode of "Humpy Hysteria" or "Usurpers Suck"!

Headline is inaccurate. It's not Trump's emergency. It's trump's pathetic attempt to fulfill a spur of the moment meaningless promise to a bunch of racist morons. A FAKE emergency.

Lying for your cult leader as always.

DOING HIS BEST would have meant building it when repubs had control of everything. Not waiting til dems took over the house of reps.

Why didnt he do it when repubs had total control, bootlicker?

Trump doesn't care about the wall. He waited until the dems took the house so he could use it as a a campaign tool

Actually it's 67 votes that's needed in the Senate. So the question is, can we find eight more Republicans willing show us a "Profiles in Courage" moment?

Of course, we will also need a 2/3 majority in the House, which is 290 votes. The Democrats currently holds 235 House seats, which means that they need 55 Republicans to vote to override, which I suspect will be harder than getting 20 in the Senate.

Donald Trump's plan to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border did not come from security analysts following years of study or through evidence that a wall would reduce illegal immigration. Amazingly, for something so central to the current U.S. president, the wall came about as a "mnemonic device" thought up by a pair of political consultants to remind Donald Trump to talk about illegal immigration.

In 2014, Trump's plan to run for president moved into high gear. His political confidant was consultant Roger Stone. "Inside Trump's circle, the power of illegal immigration to manipulate popular sentiment was readily apparent, and his advisers brainstormed methods for keeping their attention-addled boss on message," writes Joshua Green, author of Devil's Bargain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Nationalist Uprising. "They needed a trick, a mnemonic device. In the summer of 2014, they found one that clicked."

Border agents in Texas showed Trump video of three tunnels under the wall that had been discovered in the prior two weeks. And that was just in McAllen, TX, close to border crossings. m. There are videos of people using small shovels to dig holes and then crawl under them. A ladder 1' taller than the fence will work.

Technology, sensors, more border agents; these are the measures experts say are far more effective than walls. As the linked piece above indicates, Trump's wall rhetoric was just a campaign idea meant to reminds his addled brain to talk about illegal immigration. It won't do anything.

Mexico was supposed to pay for it, remember? Not U.S. military housing allocations, not a single U.S. dime.

#27 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2019-03-17 11:45 AM | Reply

Keep in mind the Mike Pence has alluded, on more than one occasion, that once we complete the 'wall' we could lay off most of the ICE and border agents which will help recoup the money spent on the wall.
