Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Russians, fearing digital isolation and more censorship on the horizon, gathered in the streets of Moscow and other cities on Sunday to protest a new bill calling for Russia to be cut off from the global Internet. Media outlets have described the protests in the capital as "some of the biggest" in years.

"The rallies follow other controversial bills that Russia's parliament recently passed. The legislation allows courts to fine citizens up to $3,000 or jail them for 15 days for showing "disrespect" online to government officials. Authorities could also force websites to remove content deemed as fake news.

The Internet tightening tactics are seen by some as a way to control public discourse, especially as Putin's approval rating has fallen more than 20 percent from 2014 to 2019, according to the Levada Center polling.

Last year, communications oversight agency Roskomnadzor "waged a battle" against messaging app Telegram, Human Rights Watch said. The company refused to comply with an order to provide encryption keys which would enable authorities to read users' messaging data."

Trumpers watch and learn from Russia. This is the inevitable result of ultra-nationalism. Is this what you want here? If Trump could he would be doing the exact same things here.

#2 Corky, I may have accidentally hit that as abusive. My arrow for some reason was lingering over the flag option displaying the 4 flag options and when I went to move it, it said received.

This reaction demonstrates that Russians know they are being lied to, unlike Americans, who still can't figure that out.

The lyrics to Chaika are subtitled, and make for interesting reading; they could apply here as well as in Trump's favorite crony capitalist Orwellian society.

You never see the leftists that run YouTube, Facebook or Twitter de-platforming speech with which they disagree and Google never adjusts their search results for political reasons.

You'd have to be on some of Jerry Garcia's own acid to be tripping enough to think Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter are left-wing at all. Those are three of the biggest platforms of the right-wing bubble. Twitter literally created the modern dotard's form.

Based on that criteria, boaz could be a member in good standing with the Log Cabin Republicans.

yaaawn... been predicting that for at least 3 years and some of you answered it will never happen. Well now it has as technology has become more advanced and not just in Russia... Turkey, Iran and Syria have also started to shut down access.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Do you believe that's what republicans want?

It's the liberals who are pushing for censorship, not republicans.
