The 2020 election is 620 days away. Which, according to new state-by-state polling data from Gallup, is a very good thing for President Donald Trump. The data paints a simple but ominous picture for Trump: If the presidential election were held today, he would almost certainly lose. Here's the key insight from the Gallup data:

"Although much can change between now and Election Day 2020, a job approval rating of 50% or higher would presumably put Trump in good position to win a state in the presidential election.

The 17 states with 50%+ approval ratings account for a combined total of 102 electoral votes. In contrast, the states in which Trump has an approval rating below 40% account for 201 electoral votes."

The EC gives, and the EC takes away.

Did the Dems truly learning nothing from polling data in 2016? Hell, the same polls told you Hillary was going to win the deep south - go watch the famous video of Rachel Maddow making a fool of herself.

Different day, same dummy...

"However, that is the only example of a time that the ultimate nominee for a main party hasn't been in the top five of early polls taken since 1996. In fact, every cycle except for the 2016 Republican primary and the 2004 Democratic primary had the eventual party nominee in the top three for their party at this point.

To put it another way, in open primaries where there is no incumbent since 1996, the candidate who went on to win their primary was in the top three of an aggregate of polls taken between November (post-election) and January (two years before the election) 7 out of 9 times."

He'll be a dictator by then and won't need to win. At least, that's what I read here.

The only way Trump will win is if the Republicans cheat like they did the last time. Interstate Crosscheck alone eliminated enough minority voters in the important three swing states to have thrown the election to Trump. Y'all can deny it but that is why Trump chose Kris Kobach to set up a program nationwide to do the same thing again. And now Republicans decided that there should be no Election Commission to fend off attempts to hack our elections from either domestic of foreign interference.

Trump voters are coming up short on their income taxes this year because of changes to the withholding tables which fooled them into believing they actually got a tax cut. Just desserts.

The difference between 2016 and 2020 is that in 2016 enough people in three states (70k, to be precise) thought they'd give him a go. In 2020, America knows he is an irrational, petulant child who has no core convictions and oftentimes, it's reported, goes with what the last person who had his ear suggested. He doesn't read, he's alienated himself from our allies and sucked up to despots and dictators.

I suspect the big test of a 'businessman' will get failing grades. If not for Dad and the Russians bailing him out (like the Qataris did with Jared's 666 building), he'd have been out of business decades ago.

I think there might be fewer people today secretly supporting him that are too embarrassed to admit it to a pollster. I'd be surprised if he hasn't alienated most of the fence sitters who thought they'd give him a try.

The polls in 2016 were actually ridiculously accurate.

They were on point nationwide. And in state by state polling, they were within the margin of error.

The only one that was really off was Rasmussen...as per usual.

Just more proof that Liberals actually think their individual opinion means anything. A disgrace is what Dems and Reps do when they try their hardest to ruin America by destroying its fundamental principles, such as not supporting the person voted in by the current democratic/republic system.

Fair enough. The Dems did have some gains. Can you imagine though if the GOP deep state had actually helped the Don as opposed to hindering him and continually treating.him as an outcast.

There is much more behind the scenes chess than a typical red v blue scenario playing out.

"The Dems did have some gains." - #32 | Posted by AuntieSocial at 2019-02-25 01:55 PM

Some gains?

🌊 Democrats won control of the US House
🌊 Republicans Suffer Worst House Defeat in U.S. History Based on Popular Vote
🌊 Democrats national lead in raw House votes broke the record for largest vote total in the history of midterm elections
🌊 Democrats earned 53.1 percent of the overall vote in House races while the Republicans earned only 45.2 percent
🌊 Democrat's vote margin bigger than Tea Party's in 2010.
🌊 Democrats received over 61,000,000 votes (Republicans received 45,000,000 in 2010)
🌊 Biggest GOP loss since the Watergate mid-term election in 1974
🌊 Republicans lost 323 state legislative seats (367 since Trump took office)
🌊 Republicans lost 7 governorships, including key 2020 Midwest states in PA, WI and MI.
🌊 6 state legislatures flipped control from GOP to Democratic (7 since Trump took office)
In Orange County, California, what was once known as Reagan Country, there are 6 Congressional Districts:
Before November 6th, the GOP held 4 of the 6
🌊 Now, Democrats hold all 6 seats
In New England, the place where the expression "rock-ribbed Republican" was created:
🌊 Democrats hold all 21 Congressional seats
🌊 11 of 12 US Senate seats are held by Democrats (or independents who caucus with Democrats)

In the races for the US Senate:
Republicans defended 9 seats and lost 2 (a 22% loss rate)
🌊 Democrats defended 26 seats and lost 4 (a 15% loss rate)

I think it gets characterized that way because the GOP picked up 2 Senate seats. The problem with that is, if memory serves, 26 incumbent Democrats were up for re-election and only 10 Republicans were up for re-election. That context matters when looking at the midterm.

Republicans defended 9 seats and lost 2 (a 22% loss rate)
Democrats defended 26 seats and lost 4 (a 15% loss rate)
The tables are somewhat turned in 2020.
