Intimidation, Pressure and Humiliation: Trump's efforts have exposed him to accusations of obstruction of justice as Robert S. Mueller II, the special counsel, finishes his work. As federal prosecutors in Manhattan gathered evidence late last year about President Trump's role in silencing women with hush payments during the 2016 campaign, Mr. Trump called Matthew G. Whitaker, his newly installed attorney general, with a question. He asked whether Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York and a Trump ally, could be put in charge of the widening investigation, according to several American officials with direct knowledge of the call.

An examination by The New York Times reveals the extent of an even more sustained, more secretive assault by Mr. Trump on the machinery of federal law enforcement. Interviews with dozens of current and former government officials and others close to Mr. Trump, as well as a review of confidential White House documents, reveal numerous unreported episodes in a two-year drama.

Trump Has Publicly Attacked the Russia Investigation More Than 1,100 Times

Trump's War on America.

Fight it and you get called "Deep State".... and that's one of the nicer things he'll call you.

Maybe if he hadn't taken Russia's side on sanctions and the Ukraine as soon as he got into office, the people around him might not have started investigating and found out that his Campaign Manager handed Putin GOP voter records to use in the Russian Troll Farm, among other things.

But then, had he not taken their side, Putin might have told on him.

Andrew Prokop @awprokop

Whitaker said the SDNY Trump investigation run by Robert Khuzami needed "adult supervision."

Seems a bit euphemistic, considering Khuzami is 62 years old and his first stint at DOJ started in 1990...

Rick Wilson @TheRickWilson

If Donald Trump asked Whitaker to interfere in the Cohen investigation with the sdny, we've entered some brand new obstruction of justice territory.

It doesn't matter if Whitaker didn't do it. It matters that Trump asked.

Good work Gal. Lots of important information and facts there. 👍

Just a matter of times before the Orange Skidmark's house of cards crumbles. This is going to make Watergate look like boys scout camp.

Trump bitches about the investigation(s) a lot (Ken Starr can relate) but thus far he has done nothing to actually impede them. I guess that could change with a new AG...

In fact, Trump was just weeks away from being indicted, forced from office, etc. Read it right here on the Retort.

It sounds like he has actually tried. Just because it was unsuccessful he gets a pass? This is exactly why people on this site say you carry Trumps water. You defend him, then twist as tho you didnt mean it like that.

#10 | Posted by justagirl_idaho at 2019-02-20 09:48 AM | Reply

Justagirl,

You conflate defending with simply stating the facts.

Thus far Trump hasn't done anything to impede the Mueller investigation. That's not a defense of Trump, it's a simple fact.

If Jussie Smollett claimed Trump was one of his assailants and we possess irrefutable proof that Trump wasn't even in Chicago is it 'carrying Trump's water' to point that out?

It sounds like on a few occasions he mused about taking actions that would impede the investigation. He never actually took any of those measures though. So, no, he never actually tried. Maybe my memory is failing. Can you cite an example where he actually tried to impede the investigation?

#11 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-02-20 10:05 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

Firing someone so the investigation would go away does not count? Attempting to control those at the top of the investigation doesnt count? Yes, Trump has attempted to interfere in ways that he thought he could get away with it easily. To say he hasnt done anything to impede the investigation is crazy. He was angry that Sessions recused himself because he thought he would have a way to impede without notice. Come on, you are being willfully ignorant of his actions.

Firing Comey didn't impede the investigation. In no way did it affect the counter-intelligence probe that had already been initiated and Mueller was appointed after Comey was fired.

Attempting to control whom? Please be specific.

For the record, it would't surprise me if he does try to shut this all down. At this point it would be political suicide but that's beside the point.

Well it is time to put up or ---- up. It honestly wouldn't bother me much to see Trump hanged on the White House Lawn for treason. I would love to see HRC held to the same standard of law that a Army Specialist is. I have watched a solder go to prison for three years for selling a manning roster to an insurance agent. Hillery's crimes comes out of her control freak personality. I believe her private server was to give her the ability to edit her record. Doing that is a felony for each document transmitted. The reason many officers work such extreme hours is that they can not take anything home. Generals in post housing usually have secure networks. Company and Field grade officers usually do not.

"Hillery's crimes comes out of her control freak personality."

First, her name is Hillary.
Secondly, she was investigated more times than anyone in history with zero crimes being uncovered. SAve yourself some time, just post BENNNNGGGGHHHHAAAAAZZZZZIIIII!!!!

As I stated above, willfully ignorant. Just because it didnt impede the investigation does not mean that was not the intention. He failed so you give him a pass. I will save my breath and get back to my day job. Discussing Trump with you is like talking to a brick wall, a futile endeavor.

#16 | Posted by danni, So you are saying that there is no reason that she has been investigated? White Water was a very small part of corruption in a very corrupt state. She was neck deep in all of it in the Rose Law Firm. Nothing has changed sense.

on youtube there are a bunch of videos by a group called "stop a douchebag"....about a bunch of russian people who stop cars from driving and parking on their large sidewalks. if people won't back up, they put a big sticker on your windshield that says "I'm a douchebag who refuses to obey traffic laws". that was the set-up, listening to drivers explaining why they were driving on the sidewalk..why they won't back up and what they're going to do, LOL. watch a couple and you'll swear that russia is full of republicans (who actually may HAVE voted for trump)

"Firing Comey didn't impede the investigation. In no way did it affect the counter-intelligence probe that had already been initiated and Mueller was appointed after Comey was fired."

Hello? Is it nice there in your dimension?

Here in this one Trump has actively and publicly Obstructed Justice. Firing Comey was an act of Obstruction. All you have to do is ask yourself WHY was Comey fired. Did he violate the Law? Did he not come to work on time? Was he stealing from the coffee fund? Was he screwing the secretary? Was he spending taxpayer money frivolously playing golf? Was he trying to undermine our democracy? Was he in cahoots (Colluding?) with a foreign enemy power?

Did he do anything wrong do deserve to be fired? What specifically was that? It was the investigation and that whole Russia thing...which is a hoax. Of course.

"When I decided to just do it I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story,'" Trump told Holt. "It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won."

"I just fired the head of the FBI. He was crazy, a real nut job," Trump said, according to a document that summarized the meeting. "I faced great pressure because of Russia. That's taken off."

so either you are insane. Or you are not from around here.

Reading comprehension is fundamental. I'll post the comment you got your panties all knotted over again:

"It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won."

Which... by the way... speaks volumes.

"An election they should've have won"... The President of the United States ACTUALLY SAID THAT.

think about it... If you are capable...

The Democrats should have won? Why say that at all? If YOU won then YOU were supposed to.. am I right? Why even say they should have won it? And why didn't they win if they were "supposed to"?

As President of the most powerful nation in the Known Universe you would think you would to know the answer to that question. His very future and the future of the nation depends on that answer.

If next time say the Republicans led by Humpy and his Minions are "supposed to win" but they don't.

Will they be as nonchalant? You people are so shortsighted... WE are trying to build a More Perfect Union here.

Not an ---- Madhouse.
