Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

CBS) –"Empire" actor Jussie Smollett, upset after a racist letter sent to the show's studio didn't get a "bigger reaction," is suspected of paying two men to attack him a week later, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the investigation. "When the letter didn't get enough attention, he concocted the staged attack," a source told CBS 2 Investigator Brad Edwards. Other sources corroborated that information.

The blockbuster revelation into at least part of Smollett's potential motive comes two days after CBS reported Smollett and two brothers -- Ola and Abel Osundairo -- staged the attack on Jan. 29 in Streeterville. Smollett received a letter containing a white powder Jan. 22, mailed to Chicago's Cinespace Studios, where the show "Empire" is filmed. The note was crafted with letters apparently cut out from magazines to form words. A magazine is one of the pieces of evidence retrieved from the brother's home last week during a search conducted by CPD.

So, tell us again how the GOP forced Smollett to send himself a fake death threat and when it didn't get enough attention, stage a fake attack that he blamed on white nationalists?

I wonder how Smollett liked his previous life, because he likely done did do it so that he'll never get to live it again:

John Schindler @20committee

Filing a false police report is a low-grade felony in IL. But if Jussie was involved in the "anthrax letter" (which was actually -- #doh -- acetaminophen) that's a matter for the Feds and he'll face serious jail time. Get the popcorn...

It looks to me as if this is at the point that it needs to be examined in a legal environment. The political environemnt has only muddled it.

I had seen mention of a Grand Jury, that would be appropriate to ascertain what happened here. I hope it happens.

muddle it? Really muddled it? ...

It was characterized as a "modern day lynching", used by those promoting the anti-lynching bill.

At this point, what difference does it make....

As Mutant put it, demand for racists outstrips supply.....

Stories like this are why people found Smollett story believable:

www.drudge.com

I found it believable that men in MAGA hats could have attacked him and called him names. I even found it believable that someone might have thrown bleach on him. What I didn't find believable was the bleach and the rope at 2 am in frigid weather.

These hoaxes are becoming increasingly common.

And it hurts the cause as it desensitizes people due to the boy who cried wolf scenario.

Smollett's problem is that he involved law enforcement and to the point that hundreds of man-hours have been spent investigating this.

He's exposed himself to very serious legal problems. On top of that he's harmed the very narrative he hoped to advance. Numerous high-profile politicians, celebs and members of the MSM have sullied their own reputations by jumping on this bandwagon before the allegations could be substantiated.

Stories like this one, too, incline people to believe such a racist attack could have happened:

'Disturbing' Video Shows Taser Arrest of Milwaukee Bucks Player Sterling Brown

Could have happened, doesn't mean it did happen, however, so, as with the #metoo movement, people should listen but verify.

Someone posted this story, which I had forgotten about, elsewhere:

Cops: McCain Worker Made Up Attack Story

A John McCain campaign volunteer made up a story of being robbed, pinned to the ground and having the letter "B" scratched on her face in a politically inspired attack, police said Friday.

This isn't whataboutism, it's just to say hoaxes come from both sides of the aisle, and those on that side will have a greater tendency to believe them.

"On top of that he's harmed the very narrative he hoped to advance."

It's not that he hurt a narrative. It's that he hurt real victims, who will be less likely to believed now.

Set aside politics and that is absolutely true. When hoaxes become exposed all they do is make it more difficult for true victims to be believed.

I'm being serious. JeffJ's comment might be true, or it might not, but there's no evidence to support it either way.

JeffJ narratives are typically light on evidence and heavy on opinion masquerading as fact.

JeffJ, since these hoaxes are becoming more common, does that mean we are backsliding on racial progress over the past few decades?

I can provide citations if you'd like, but you'd probably respond by deflecting to boof.

Another thread?

Ted, why do you want to keep bringing attention to the fact that conservative violence is so prevalent in society that people expect them to carry out race-related acts of terror?

Poor Harvey Weinstein.

RightOCenter used to post three threads a day about his main squeeze Harvey.

But since Jussie came along, RightOCenter stopped returning Harvey's calls.

I wonder who will be next!

Gee, that whole Weinstein thing was certainly a flash in the pan, wasn't it? I mean, most of the Libs here initially thought it was nothing, had never heard of him, accused me of only posting it to troll Dems.

It's not like it started a world-wide movement for women pushing back on sexual harassment or anything like that...

And Vizzindy arrives to answer #1 after mustering up the gumption to venture into such hazardous territory for his precious Narrative.

So tell me Vizzindy, how is it the GOP's fault that Smollett sent a fake anthrax letter to himself on set prior to the fake attack?

Jason Manning. a sociologist at West Virginia University and a co-author of the 2018 book The Rise of Victimhood Culture probably said it best:

"Hate-crime hoaxes are found in collective conflicts. Perpetrators might not even think of them as [false] accusations since in many cases they see it as an attempt to draw attention to what they view, correctly or not, as a real problem. To the extent that modern society increasingly valorizes victimhood, claiming victim status through outright lies will become more attractive."

Smollett's Twitter bioline says it all:

"I am simply here to help save the world."

Like when Trumpers tell lies about illegal immigrants.

Or like when Al Gore lied about his mother-in-law's meds costing more than pet meds.

Because of the countless deplorable race-related assaults chronically committed by members of the GOP. Because of the rhetoric and calls for violence from the GOP's highest leaders.

From the way republicans like you willfully choose to ignore addressing the racial violence your party thrives upon.

It's absolutely amazing how much mileage losers like roc can get out of such an incredibly insignificant event like this just because the bad actors were "liberals".

And Smollett deserves to be held accountable for his idiotic actions.
