Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, February 12, 2019

A supporter of US President Donald Trump has attacked a BBC cameraman at a campaign rally in El Paso, Texas. Sporting a Make America Great Again cap, the man shoved and swore at the BBC's Ron Skeans and other news crews before being pulled away. Mr Skeans said the "very hard shove" came from his blindside. "I didn't know what was going on."

"I'm very worried that the hostility whipped up by Trump and some in conservative media will result in somebody getting hurt"

Someone did get hurt, just not badly this time. The more Trump loses the more dangerous his pagan followers will become.

Bodyslams, bombs and shoves: Anti-media violence in Trump's America
www.axios.com

...Since President Trump took office, attacks on the media have been his go-to strategy at rallies, on Twitter and elsewhere. ...

Past presidents have argued it's their job to tone down the heat in moments of high tension and unease, especially following deadly acts of domestic terrorism. But Trump told "Axios on HBO" last year that his divisive rhetoric is his "only form of fighting back," and that his supporters crave it....

Trump riles up his sub-90 IQ base about the media, and this is the result. Women getting trampled by a redhat is nothing compared to what could have happened.

Got mine... think I'll wear it to WalMart. It's Lincoln's piss off a liberal day...

So what about those Mexican flags at Beto's rally?

Some media down here in Texas are saying that about illegals 90,000 are registered to vote and 50,000 did votin our last election.

and Beto still lost. By a lot. Not even close.

Even by cheating, Democrats still couldn't win.

@#13 ... Some media down here in Texas are saying that about illegals 90,000 are registered to vote and 50,000 did votin our last election. ...

Those numbers have been largely debunked. But it is no surprise that Pres Trump continues to cite them.

@#13 ... Beto still lost. By a lot. Not even close. ...

How the race between Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke became the closest in Texas in 40 years
www.texastribune.org

..."Who?"

That was the reaction back in late 2016 from former Houston Mayor Annise Parker when she first heard that a sophomore Democratic congressman from El Paso named Beto O'Rourke was mulling a challenge to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. ...

Almost exactly two years later, O'Rourke fell roughly 220,000 votes short out of 8.3 million of unseating Cruz, closer to winning a statewide office than any Texas Democrat in a generation. The strength of his candidacy helped Texas Democrats pick up two U.S. House seats, two state Senate seats and a dozen state House seats....

As for Republicans, Cruz's narrow win was publicly hailed as a triumph over the tens of millions of dollars that poured into the state through O'Rourke's campaign. But behind the scenes Wednesday, more profound questions were being raised about what the outcome meant for the state's status as a GOP stronghold -- and how Cruz, once heavily favored for re-election, managed to win by less than 3 percentage points....

There's a big caveat they left out. Most of Beto's campaign was effectively unopposed, in an anti-Trump year. Cruz didn't even try until the last few months.

You're delusional. The final was Cruz 50.9 to O'Rourke 48.3. Of the 8,371,655 votes cast, Cruz won by about 200,000.

For comparison's sake, in 2012, Cruz, a newcomer, won 56.6-40.6, and had 1.2 million more votes than his Dem counterpart.

In 2014, Cornyn beat his challenger 61.6 to 31.4.

Here's the big caveat you left out...

Sen Cruz didn't even try until the last few months because he had thought he would be a shoe-in and didn't have to try. :)

If Sen Cruz runs for reelection next time around, I suspect he won't sit out the first few months of the campaign again.

Also, Sen Cruz not even trying for the first few months, what does that say about his respect for those that support him? He feels he can just ignore them because he won't have to pay attention?

In a state that has twice as many Republicans as Democrats that's a monumental accomplishment for O'Rourke even if he lost.

What does it say? He knew he would win. A few boring debates and some signs put up 2 months before the election, and the brightest Democrat hope in decades was defeated.

The whole thing just made it worse in the short term in Texas. It pushed Cruz much further to the right on simple criminal justice issues than he had been for years.

@#22 ... supporters continue to parrot them ...

When the Texas secretary of state's office has been saying that those numbers may be wrong, and that office was the one that originally issued them...

For example...

Texas quietly informs counties that some of the 95,000 voters flagged for citizenship review don't belong on the list
County officials said the number mistakenly flagged is "significant."
www.texastribune.org

... "We're going to proceed very carefully," said Douglas Ray, a special assistant county attorney in Harris County, where 29,822 voters were initially flagged by the state. A "substantial number" of them are now being marked as citizens, Ray said. ...

#13 | POSTED BY PEGASUS

Haha... you still believe that? What an idiot.

Also, just so you know, the CLAIM by the idiot Republicans in Texas was that ~50k non-citizens voted in at least one election over the past 22 years (not, as you claim, all in the most recent election). Not that Republicans ever let the facts (even the ones from other Republicans) get in the way of their narrative.

And, they have already said that at least HALF of that 50k who voted WERE citizens. They showed up as non-citizens because they were naturalized (so they were PREVIOUSLY not citizens). Who would have ever thought something like that was possible (you know, people becoming citizens then voting)? Not the Republican brain trust apparently.

My bet is they come up with a hundred people or so, OVER THE PAST 22 YEARS, who turn out to have voted illegally. And they will find that these people were just confused and thought they were allowed to vote (and they were probably confused because the Texas idiots REGISTERED them to vote when they weren't eligible).

But go ahead... keep slurping down that conservative koolaid.

It is true...

When people don't believe in facts, and when they have authoritarian nationalists whipping up their fear of their neighbors for political reasons, then might still makes right to them no matter how wrong they are.

I agree. A Dem coming that close in Texas tells me he would clean his opponent's clock in purple states.

The DNC needs to give a good hard look at O'Rourke for President. Trump voters aren't going to be converted; turnout is going to dictate whether Dems win in 2020. And as it stands, there is nobody who can generate enthusiasm in their party right now quite like O'Rourke.

If that is truly what Democrats want, you know it is going to happen. Because YOU KNOW that liberals always win and conservatives always lose.

Even after 2 years of control over all three branches of government, we still have Obamacare and you STILL don't have your wall.

It's called learned helplessness and it pervades the Republican psyche. You know you are a loser. And because of that you always will be. Pelosi dominated Trump, effortlessly. Just accept it and let it happen.

What the report said is that 90,000 voter registration APPLICATIONS in 22 years had the same name as an illegal alien. Investigation showed that some self identified as not able to vote and were not registered. Some died, some went back to mexico and some became citizens. There is no evidence ANY illegal aliens VOTED

Why the attack on our cameraman was no surprise

I covered endless Trump rallies in the run-up to the election and since - and there is a pattern. The attacks on the media are hugely popular with his supporters. They are every bit as much a part of his "set" as Honky Tonk Woman and Satisfaction are part of a Rolling Stones concert. You just can't imagine it not happening.

If you've never been to a Trump rally let me describe what it's like.

It's incredibly sad that America has - for the first time - a president who's condoned violence against fellow Americans.

Even during the worst of the Vietnam era turmoil (antiwar vs "you're a communist!" split) neither president even implied that was OK for Americans to physically turn on each other.
