Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Jonathan Chait: As a high-profile link between the Obama-era Republican Congress and the Trump administration, [White House chief of staff Mick] Mulvaney has retrospectively clarified a lot of points people refused to understand at the time. Mulvaney casually confessed last week that nobody cares about the deficit. Mulvaney of course spent the Obama era claiming to care about the deficit a lot -- so much, indeed, that he was willing to shut down the government or even default on the national debt in order to reduce it. The debt hysteria was manufactured to cover a different agenda.

they think people are slamming trump as pay-back for the way they acted toward obama.

they still will not admit to trump's incompetence.

Until everyone admits the hypocrisy of both parties, we will never move forward. Instead, we'll be right where we're at beating each other over the head while the establishment has us right where they want us - too divided to demand real change.

It wasn't that it was deficit spending. It was what the deficit spending was for.

Deficit spending on war, the 1% and bailouts for wall street is fine.

But buy one kid in poverty a sandwich and the world is collapsing.

@5, or deflect and spin their lies and propaganda like they always do.
They probably haven't gotten Fox News and Putin's talking points yet.

If the populace ever got together enough to demand real change, the oligarchs would simply use their powers to financially squash us all like bugs anyway.

In ten years when trump is still seen as historically retarded, they'll cry about how they admitted they lied about Obama and that we should do the same for trump.

The problem with that request is, I don't have to lie to call trump a ------.

Until people stop pretending this is a BOTH PARTIES problem, we will never move forward.

As I always say - a cold and AIDS are both diseases. Do you really need to think about which one you'd rather have?

Ahh the old - the only way to fight the elites is to take their bribe money and work for them - tactic. Worked great in 2016 didn't it?

Everyone is hypocritical to a point. It's about how hypocritical. And in that there is no contest.

This. The parties are the same meme is a favorite of GOP donors and pols... it keeps them from any responsibility of being much worse hypocrites with much worse policies on just about every possible issue.

-The parties are the same meme is a favorite of GOP donors and pols

Everyone I know that's an ardent supporter of the GOP believes they are supporting the right party. That their party is better.

And I actually know big GOP donors and pols.

the pols are slightly worried about appearing as hypocrites...but the supporters couldn't give 2 -----.

Ok, so if it's a problem, then how come the first thing Dems do when it is their turn is THE EXACT SAME THING?

Highlighting hypocrisies without calling it hypocrisy only serves to make the author and any believers look foolish.

"Everyone I know that's an ardent supporter of the GOP believes they are supporting the right party. That their party is better.

And I actually know big GOP donors and pols."

And everyone I know that's an ardent supporter of the Democrat party believes they are supporting the right party. That their party is better. So why point fingers at one group when both do it? And it's completely, 100% obvious that both sides do it. But so many people on both sides refuse to EVER be objective because they feel their opinion is the only right one. Here's a tip...the country will never get better until people accept this and figure out how to be objective.

Oh, btw, the article doesn't provide any type of data that has anything to do with the headline on Drudge. Just saying...

You're the one who won't get real. Real people are demanding real changes right now and we will nominate a Presidential candidate who agrees with us.

Here's a tip - if you're being objective, you have to admit the dem party is better for most americans.

The republicans party is run by sociopathic billionaires and polluters who are manipulating masses of hateful ignorant chumps. And now it's the party of treasonous con man.

There is no objective comparison.

California "fixed" thier gop problem.

They now have VERY FEW gop in the state legislature and now getting things done.

When will we learn?

#23 When will we learn

The Newsom crew is learning to choke off projects that have cost overruns like High-Speed Rail by reducing its reach to between Merced and Bakersfield. That's not as useful as linking Barstow/Victorville with Bakersfield (Amtrak).
Even with higher numbers of GOP, California at least completed the east side of the Bay Bridge.

California's biggest enemy is climate with its huge costs for battling wildfires, drought, flooding and erosion.

Agreed, I expected some other big reveal from the title. Unfortunately both parties like to be big spenders when they're in control of the government.
