To what extent is Iran a peaceful nation? (2016)
www.quora.com

...Iran's issues lie primarily with its foreign policy and the mistreatment of its people by the strictly Islamic national government. However, as evident by the very strong common national heritage that various groups have within Iran, Iran is fairly peaceful and stable in other areas. In history, Iran has alternated dramatically from being a minor state (WWII) to being a major power (1750), to being a true superpower (350 AD).

Iran was previously considered a first world country due to its opposition to the second world (Soviet Union), and its alignment with the west, especially the US, before the Islamic revolution. It was like another Morocco, who is a friend of the western world and a major ally, but still Muslim, and not a member of NATO. Today, Iran maintains a cold stance towards many of its previous western allies, and the Iranian government is oppressive of its peoples personal choices in comparison. The role of religion is also too significant. In some fairly religious countries, the rule of written law is superior to theology, but in Iran this is not the case currently.

Iran however is ALSO fairly peaceful compared to some of its more unstable neighbors. Many Iranians live full lives similar to those lived by people in completely developed nations, and many Iranians have cars, phones and communication, food and water, sanitation, and controlled birth rates. There is no huge population explosion like lower income countries, and the standard of living is significantly better than those nations as well....

Cool. Do it. Then they'll raze iran to the ground and the whole area will be a lot more peaceful without israel or iran. Hit saudi arabia too while you're at it.

I guess they think Israel would have no say concerning attempting such a move - good luck with that!

I remember Saddam promising the mother of all battles if we invaded again. From his prospective he was correct. Iran is not as developed as Iraq. Their weapons are mostly 50 years old or older. Their troops are ill trained. Their air force is a joke and their navy consists of speed boats. Still it is much larger than Iraq. The roads are poor, power is always a problem, phone service is very spotty and a whole lot of the population hates the Mullahs in charge. The last thing we need to do is put boots on the ground. It would be much cheaper to fund some freedom fighters and dissidents. As always, our freedom fighters are their terrorist and vice versa. Best lesson to give them, Don't make battleship threats with a rowboat military.

Kinda like this guy:

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States," Trump told reporters from the clubhouse of his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., where he was being briefed separately on the opioid epidemic. "They will be met with fire and the fury like the world has never seen."

Have they used the US missiles that BushI gave them in exchange for holding the US hostages until after the election against Carter?.

Those could reek havoc, if they still work.

Honestly, I believe that appeasement to those who make threats is generally not wise in the long run. The last thing we want to show these guys is a lack of resolve. The bad thing is about 30% of the oil used on earth pass through the straits of Horomez. Iraq could mine it and we would see some real problems world wide.China, Japan and South Asia buy most of that.

You know what would be nice? If we'd stop mucking around in the ME Iran wouldn't be increasingly more influential.

But hey, we can solve that by simply going to war with them, right? It'll work out perfectly this time, right?

Iran makes these threats because it knows that the USA is Israel's bitch.

#13, Trump's business model and ruling style is based on threats and revenge.

#16 | Posted by bayviking,#15 | Posted by bored If y'all didn't know the difference between an empty threat and a promise with the resources to fulfill that promise, you may want to rethink that. Iran does have plenty of missiles but their original design was for AAA. Nearly all nuclear devices use Pu, the ideal that anyone would go to the trouble of making a U bomb is insane. The only place to make Pu is inside a reactor. Unless Iran has a couple of breeder reactors, that isn't very likely. Iran could launch a few dozen missiles with the range to hit in the vicinity of their target, as the V2 in WWII did but the guidance system isn't fine enough, They are basically Free Rockets Over Ground,(FROG) in the terminal phase of the trajectory. The Mullahs might get desperate and launch in a belief they can enhance their political power in the area by striking Israel, problem being Israel strikes back and they have nuclear weapons. A good enough reason not to escalate an already tense situation. Remember Saudi Arabia and Iran are already in a proxy war in Yemen. ISIS is operating in the Anbar in Iraq. Things could get worse, but I don't know how.
