Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) briefed President Trump on the ongoing negotiations to break the stalemate on the U.S.-Mexico border wall and prevent a second shutdown. Shelby said he had a "productive" meeting with Trump, who he said told the Senate Appropriations chairman that he wanted the conference committee to "wrap it up" and that he wanted a "legislative solution."

The bi-partisan committees of Congress can reach all the possible deals they want. Unless they have enough votes to overcome a veto, Pres Trump has to be willing to sign the bill.

Well, it looks like things may be happening...

Trump Gives Ground on His Wall as Border Deal Comes Into View

...Faced with limited options and a looming deadline to prevent another government shutdown, President Trump is moving toward accepting a border-security deal that would fall well short of his once-firm demand for $5.7 billion in funds for a wall at the southwestern frontier.

On Capitol Hill, House and Senate conferees were nearing an agreement that could offer the president between $1.3 billion and around $2 billion in funding for border security, a range, still subject to change, that could include some physical barriers and result in a deal as early as Monday. Talk of a wall has given way to "bollard fencing" and strategic placements.

"We're 95 to 98 percent done," said Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Mr. Trump has told allies he would grudgingly accept a figure of around $2 billion, but House Democrats remain publicly opposed to spending that much on physical barriers. It is still not clear how much of the final allocation would go for new fencing, according to three people briefed on the negotiations....

Trump lost the 5 billion and is now settling for 2 billion.

And RoC is cheering for his boy Trump's "victory"?

Both sides are going to declare "victory" but there are really no winners here.

"Trump lost the 5 billion and is now settling for 2 billion. "

which actually cost us 11 billion cuz of the shutdown.

that's an amazingly bad deal. no wonder trumps dad kept gaving to bail him out, he's an imbecile.

It's clear that Trump completely overestimated how much leverage he had on this issue, but when you overreach, regardless of how small your "hands" are, they will still get cut off.

Isn't it something how Trump voters don't look to Trump's life of squandered money as proof that handouts are bad?

Barely even $2 billion that can't be used for a wall specifically.

Trump signs on to this, it's a clear win for America (no government shutdown) and a huge concession on the part of Trump.

But hey, Trumpers! Nothing to worry about! The wall is already being built! And most drugs come through ports of entry, and most illegals commit crime against other illegals, and the jobs that they take from Americans are jobs that Americans refuse to fill because corporations refuse to compensate people taking those jobs appropriately.

So really, y'all have nothing to worry about and can claim victory all the same.

Man o' man, what a great deal maker Trump has turned out to be!!! WHOOP!

Don't get your hopes up over Trump signing anything. First he has to 'splain his defeat to his co-presidents ~ Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. Then they have to 'splain it to his base so it sounds like an 'exit ramp' is a glorious victory for Trump and a staggering defeat for their arch enemy ~ Nancy Pelosi.

It's going to be a hard sell.

Re the wall chess match:
Trump knows there won't be a wall.
As he thinks way ahead like a chess master, he also knows illegals will continue to sneak in, carry drugs and commit crimes.
He also knows those events will be highly publicized
Thereby ensuring his 2020 reelection.
