Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 07, 2019

The Democratic Party's base is rallying around calls for massive social welfare programs like Medicare for All, a federal jobs guarantee and a Green New Deal -- all of which would cost trillions of dollars and potentially bust the budget. Yet a small but growing chorus of progressives say that policy makers are thinking about deficits all wrong: The red ink, they say, is not that big of a deal.

She's wrong they are a big deal in the end, there is just nothing to stop them from growing. Which is why I am against tax increases, it won't help. We are on opposite sides of the same coin. In her mind, why not soak everyone for short term gain and long term pain. Sorry AOC I'd rather keep whats mine when the pain comes.

If it's a big deal then it was a big deal when the Republicans passed a 2.1 trillion dollar tax cut for the 1%. Don't talk to us about deficits when you support the unbridled greed of the Republicans.

That's hilarious. Mattress et al's tax cuts just increased the deficit by trillions, plus interest, on average Americans.... as Republicans always do.

Thanks, Trumpism!

At least Trump hasn't declared a new invasion of Iraq and asked for tax cuts at the same time.....yet.

Those war deficits are nothing compared to our ever ballooning entitlements.... it just quickens the end.

Nothing can stop that gravy train, only hurry it along .. which AoC is proposing to do...

Of course its hilarious to the financially illiterate .. we were going into astronomical deficits anyway, regardless, no amount of taxation will cure the problem, only confiscation.... and its coming.....

Alfred E. Mackris... What, me worry? We're all going to die anyway, why shouldn't we triple the deficit?

How about because our children, dumbass.

- confiscation

More rwing fearmongering.

Progressive taxation is as American as apple pie.... and America's best economic years were when we had high tax rates.

"The Budget and Deficit Under Clinton"

Q: During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased?

A: Yes to both questions, whether you count Social Security or not."

Andrea, as usual, is just full of crap. Taxes pay down debt and eliminate deficits. That's a fact we've seen occur in the past and all the lies won't change it. It's just a fact, we need higher taxes on the rich, like it or not.

"its hilarious to the financially illiterate .. we were going into astronomical deficits anyway"

That is specifically traceable to decisions made by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney to reset the fiscal sights of America.

"That is specifically traceable to decisions made by George W. Bush and Dick Cheney to reset the fiscal sights of America."

We're supposed to forget those little details.

No problem, we'll just confiscate all the wealth of the top 1% to pay for everything, even though those all those monies would only run the government for about 8-9 months.....

If Trump and the GOP don't care about deficits, why should Democrats:

Trump's Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney Reportedly Says ‘Nobody Cares' About Deficit at SOTU

Acting White House chief of staff Mich Mulvaney said "nobody cares" when asked about President Donald Trump mentioning the deficit contributing to America's $22 trillion in national debt during his State of the Union address last night.

At least the money Democrats want to spend would actually help average Americans and slow down global warming.

It's hilarious that righties think their opinions matter on budgetary and economic topics.

You guys have so utterly failed in those realms you should be voluntarily silent to avoid further embarrassment.

LOL, Fat Andy Mattress doesn't have kids, he'd have to leave his basement plus I doubt he has the social skills to attract said women to "impregnate".
Society doesn't need those genes to be passed on anyhow, his bloodline needs to end with him.

Republican criminals proved those progressives are exactly right in2008, but no one in DC wants the public to figure that out. So both parties agree never to bring this up. Then along comes a progressive and spoils it for the 1 percent.

Deficit spending to fund improvements in the country are different than rich folks embezzling from the treasury.

Like Green Socialism? That's not an improvement.

Progressive taxation is as American as apple pie....

I have no issue with Progressive taxation ...

and America's best economic years were when we had high tax rates.

No it wasn't; our best economic years were the 90's by far ...

The 1990s are widely regarded as a period of economic prosperity. From the end of 1990 to the end of 2000, the S&P 500 exactly quadrupled, rising from 330 to 1,320.

Capital gains taxes were low .. revenue high
en.wikipedia.org

60s and 70's were hit with 3 serious resessions and high interest rates.

"Capital gains taxes were low"

No, they weren't. Top rates for most of the 90s were 40% higher than they are today.

More rwing fearmongering.

Its not fear mongering when 10 years ago wealth taxation wold have been laughed out of the running.

Today its actually considered an interesting idea.
Tomorrow ... probably reality ...

LOL, Fat Andy Mattress doesn't have kids,

This is true ...

he'd have to leave his basement

Corky knows where I live ...

plus I doubt he has the social skills to attract said women to "impregnate".

I attract them, I just don't keep them around, waste of time ....

his bloodline needs to end with him.

Ironic coming from a poster named ABORTED.

Not sure how kids come into this conversation, but if your argument is based on the idea one should pay more taxes for their children, well you are just an idiot.
