Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, February 05, 2019

During last night's State of the Union President Donald Trump called an end to investigations: "An economic miracle is taking place in the United States -- and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn't work that way!"

What I need to know?

If people's pants actually caught on fire for lying, Trump would be in a wheelchair by now.

Also, Trump will present every shhty thing he's done as being great for America.

Polluted air and water, poor economy, additional $2 trillion to the deficit, children in cages, poor relationship with our allied nations...

Trump is a cancer on our nation. Trumpublicans only like him because a) they're morons who believe what Trump tells them, b) they love shoving it to liberals.

Your Guide to Tonight's Trumpian Word Vomit

Meaningless words will be uttered by a man who sits on a throne of lies.

You'll hear some big, sweeping, popular ideas in the speech tonight. "We're going to eliminate AIDS by 2030. We're going to open a Whataburger on the Moon by April! Puppies and kittens for everyone!" They'll sound normal, and even presidential.

Ignore them. These ideas and policies are meaningless tripe, the product of focus-grouped and rigorously crafted message-testing. They are the product of a man who sits on a throne of lies, written by the most mendacious public "servants" in recorded memory. Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Kellyanne Conway's scent will be all over these policies. (Jared's scent is of sandalwood and tightly suppressed rage.)

Fact check: What Trump said (and didn't) during his State of the Union address

Trump said the "lawless state of our southern border" is a threat to Americans' safety and well being. He said he was asking lawmakers to "defend our very dangerous" border.

Still, studies have found that immigrants (legal and undocumented) commit crimes at a lower rate than native-born Americans.

Trump characterized that growth as an unprecedented economic boom. It's not.

The U.S. economy is estimated to have grown about 3 percent this year. That's the most only since 2005. And it was generated by a tax cut and government spending that's swelling the deficit – a rare stimulus during a strong economy.

I've watched plenty.

They're mostly full of promises you know can't or won't be kept but are meant to be uplifting and an expression of positive directions the country can move in.

Last night was largely a retread of his inauguration speech except we now have two years of experience proving how demonstrably false it was. It was a continuous lip service to the ideas people want but will never get under the GOP, it was taking credit for things the GOP doesn't get credit for and it was the most obstructive, corrupt and lying party in memory demanding compromise, cooperation and a look the other way from the other party.

Only a fool would have watched that and thought it was anything more than a thin facade of concern for the everyday citizen or voter.

Hilarious. Like the guy who goes to church once a year on Easter Sunday, Trump comes out once a year and reads a banal, nearly incoherent, full of outright lies bit of fluff from his teleprompter that his speechwriters crafted together with polling data on things that Americans approve of.... with no mention at all of the lies and recriminations and threats he tweets the other 364 days... nothing about his Shutdown of the gov at all....

... and RoCheney is shocked, shocked I tells you, that the average viewer reacted positively to things they polled as being positive about.

www.cheatsheet.com

"Both presidents have told lies. But one seems to have told more lies than the other. Politifact reports that 15% of the statements by Donald Trump that it evaluated qualified as "pants on fire" level lies. Conversely, the publication found that just 2% of the Barack Obama statements that it fact-checked qualified as "pants on fire" lies. For both presidents, that's only the lies that Politifact found were "pants on fire" false, not including statements that were just "false," even "mostly false," or only "half true."

Similarly, The New York Times catalogued the lies told by Barack Obama and Donald Trump. "We applied the same conservative standard to Obama and Trump, counting only demonstrably and substantially false statements," the Times noted. The result? The Times found that Trump often says "whatever helps him make the case he's trying to make. In his first 10 months in office, he has told 103 separate untruths, many of them repeatedly. Obama told 18 over his entire eight-year tenure. That's an average of about two a year for Obama and about 124 a year for Trump.""

And if words are too hard for you here's a graph:

www.nytimes.com

You can't say trump isn't a huge liar, so you desperately pathetically search for something obama did worse. And the best you can find is that he said "I" too much. Congrats that your outrageous liar doesn't say "I" as often as a more honest president.

Based upon viewership and polled viewer response, this speech was an overwhelming success.

The last time Trump had a very successful speech it lasted all of a week before he said/tweeted something horribly offensive and stupid and undid any goodwill he generated from that speech (I don't remember which speech or what he said, but I do remember it came about a week after a well-received speech).

You might re-check your math. According to Nielsen, President Trump's first SOTU (2018) had a viewership of 45.8 M. His second SOTU (2019) had a viewership of 46.8 M. That's only an increase of about 2% (easily within statistical variance). Again, hardly overwhelming!
