Special counsel Robert Mueller's team has expressed interest in the Trump campaign's relationship with the National Rifle Association during the 2016 campaign. "When I was interviewed by the special counsel's office, I was asked about the Trump campaign and our dealings with the NRA," Sam Nunberg, a former Trump campaign aide, told CNN.

"The NRA had already come under scrutiny from lawmakers for its massive spending in support of Trump in 2016 and its ties to Russian nationals.

Maria Butina, a Russian national, pleaded guilty in DC federal court in December to engaging in a conspiracy against the US. As part of her plea, she acknowledged that she attempted to infiltrate GOP political circles and influence US relations with Russia, in part by building ties with prominent members of the NRA.

She also admitted she was working at the direction of a prominent former Russian central banker, Alexander Torshin, who was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department last year for his role in the Russian government. Torshin is also a lifetime member of the NRA.

Until now, though, it had been unclear whether Mueller's team had any interest in digging into the Trump campaign's dealings with the NRA."

Mueller Looking into 2016 Trump Campaign's Ties to NRA

This is where the entire republican PARTY and a few democrats start to get nervous!!!

Russian money likely made its way to Trump's campaign as well as to many other avid NRA supporters. Politicians that accepted that money will be asked to explain their support for the NRA and maybe even asked to give the money back or donate it to their favorite charity.

CITIZENS UNITED...as long as it's the law of the land, our republic isn't "ours" and it may not remain a republic much longer. Both sides are complicit.

CU is the authorized theft of American from the American people. Every member of the SC that approved it should be in prison for life. And I seriously do honestly mean that. They knew what they were doing at the time and they knew it was totally unconstitutional but they did it anyway. They are virtual traitors and should pay for their crime in an appropriate way. Life in prison would be completely appropriate. I remember President Obama saying in the SOTU address that this would allow foreing nations to interfere with our politics and Alito shaking his head no. Alito looks like a liar today because he was a liar then. Foreign influence and money is not invested into our politics at a level we have never seen before. The criminals, the 5 conservatives on the court, should be punished for this crime against American democracy. Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia and Kennedy belong in prison.

Those five sold out their nation. No forgiveness. That is the truth like it or not.

Yeah...I think it was brought to roberts' attention and he said there was no reason to think that foreign money would be a problem. It's now and has always been about wealth distribution

Does anyone honestly believe he was that dumb? Not me. He knew. He sold out his nation. He is virtually a traitor and should face the consequences of being one. I do honestly believe that, the corporate five belong in prison. They sold out their nation to foreign interests, I think we can all see Russia's interests deeply involved in our politics today. That should not go unpunished.

BTW, NRA means National Russia Association. Rifles are fine but Russia is their owner these days.

Looks like Paul Wehlan could be the first of many Americans snatched off the streets of Russia. Vlad the Gunslinger must REALLY want Maria Butina back. Wouldn't it be 'funny' if Individual-1 suddenly decided to trade her for Whelan, perhaps to get rid of a witness for Mueller's investigation?

it's no longer "russia" anymore than it's the "united states" or "china". it's unchecked thievery disguised as capitalism. with todays technologies, the "haves" can steal more, quicker, than ever before. it's obvious that we're headed for interesting times in the not to distant future.

He must want her back to hurt her, because she's already spilled her guts to Mueller.

No they are the middle men money launderers for pinko commies. They are the way putin controls republicans. This is now a known fact for people who pay attention to real news.

Your favorite political group that controls all republicans turned out to be a russian intelligence operation. Congrats.

When it comes to the ultra rich, what we have in the US at this time is essentially what was happening during the period of Robber Barons. Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

As for the NRA they spent record money and DARK money in 2016. They were found out though. I am sorry the fact a Russian Oligarch is a lifetime member is okay somehow even in my mind. BUT their collusion with him to spend on the election should send several directly to prison. Time to shut down the NRA.

When it comes to Citizens United - you are correct no Republican has spoke of fixing it that I am aware of. However during the Obama years the Legislature had an opportunity and there was crickets. At the state level there are changes being made in a couple states. Don't get me wrong - D's are as beholden to big donors as R's. We should have a cap on spending period. That way our representatives spend time IN congress working on things rather than at phone banks calling on donors. Both sides practice this wholesale.

Stop helping repubs push their "dems are as bad as we are" message.

It's simply untrue.

Dems are not pure and uncorruptable. But you have to be able to tell the difference between a flu and AIDs.
